Maybe we, why don't we sit right here for half an hour
We'll speak of what a waste I am and how
We missed your beat again

I swear we need to find some comfort in
This run down place
To bridge the gap of this conscious state
That we live in
I'm short on time

How come you try and fit the shape of
What they tell you

But mostly what they show you
That brings us home
I pray for you to move on

At this rate we can't keep up but I sure
Can't just sit still
I'm taking back all the things I said
Keep me filled in, I swear I'll come

We walk alone back home

You're almost gone and I'm ok to give you
Time to be afraid
I still see your shadow but never your face again
I remember your presence

I hope to God you come down
I hope to God you can feel this now

I know there must be some way out of
Here and all of them will be waiting there

General Comment:I love how people always seem to interpret much deeper songs as just being about some boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. Seriously, every song isn't about that.

Anyway, I completely agree with adayinforever. I think you may have got it right on the nose. I love how Underoath doesn't push non-believers away with their lyrics by not making the underlying Christian meaning overly apparent. A part of me likes to think that someday, something will happen in the life/lives of the non-christians that listen to these songs and the meaning will suddenly "click" and they'll understand.

Making Christian music for Christians is great and all, but I believe making music that could potentially bring others to Christ means so much more...

Song Meaning:Spencer Chamberlain (the singer, in case you didn't know that.) says this song was written for his friend, who died from overdosing on drugs. If you watch the video, basically what happens is there are two families living in one house. The boy and girl are obviously friends (at least. he kisses her cheek, so they probably like each other.) You then see the father of the girl take her away to practice her ballet. After her father leads her to the room where you practices ballet, you see him walk out and the boys father kill the girls father by striking him on the head with his fist. The boys father then goes and gets high in his room, while the lady below him (possibly the boys mother or a neighbor) hears some noise and calls the police, who go to the attic and find the girls father. Dead. We then see the girls mother putting on make up, obviously oblivious to the situation. She then makes her way up to the attic, only to find her husband dead. She screams and is later seen crying in the hallways. She cry's so much that it starts flooding the room below hers. The boys father then dies from overdosing with drugs, and everything quiets down. the video ends with the scene of the boy and the girl in the hallways together.

I'm pretty sure, after watching the video and listening to the lyrics, that this song is about the cause and effects of drugs. That and Spencer said it was about his old roommate, and close friend, who died from overdosing.

This song is still awesome, no mater what you think its talking about.

My Interpretation:In my opinion this song is about a relationship possibly one in which the other person in the relationship did not have the faith that the writer did. It seems like the other person is faulting the writer for their faith and the writer is somewhat angry about it but more hoping that that person will come down off their pedestal and realize that faith is important and that it why the relationship was ended.

General Comment:This song is about a broken family. The step-dad beats the mother, step-son, and step-daughter. The biological father tries to save them, but the step-dad kills him.
