Lyrics for Bicycle Song as interpreted by VanceD

Bicycle Song Lyrics
Here she comes in a suit and tie
Shepard’s bush and a leopard’s pie
She marching to the funky beat of
James Brown and his dancing feet
Gonna set your fish on fire
Pistol whipping of desire
So please do not resist your fate
I’ll pick you up yes it’s a date

How could I forget to mention the bicycle is a good invention
Sitting there in a silent movie
Beside the only girl who really ever moved me
Happy days but sad I’m facin
Heaven knows that I’m on the case
How could I forget to mention the bicycle?

Somebody told the world
The beauty of your verse
My girl I heard it first
The beauty of your verse

A sticky finger and a wicked taste
Gotta a lot of love and a lyrical case
Be sure to write it in your book
I promise not to look
Wanna smell your sunny face
Funny place but it’s never a waste
I’d hop this fence to make amends
I hope this movie never ends

How could I forget to mention the bicycle is a good invention
Make it up makin you my business
A funny buttercup but I let her forgiveness
Happy days but sad I’m facin
Heaven knows that I’m on the case
How could I forget to mention the bicycle?

Somebody told the world
The beauty of your verse
My girl I heard it first
The beauty of your verse

Somebody told the world
The beauty of your verse
My girl I heard it first
The beauty of your verse

i think this song is about having no idea where he is at a point and realising the thing he is missing is this girl, then the weirdness or slight oddness in her that someone would not usually find the beauty in but she's what he's missing. gosh man only 3 comments? the bicycle is a good invention guys.

This song is awesome! After hearing the 30-second sample on iTunes, I decided I just HAD to get hold of it, and eventually I did through Wippit.com. Like Lorrie commented above, the bicycle IS a good invention!

I think hes talking about how he met a great girl, and was really in love with her, maybe even taking her virginity-- but he had his own path to go on and his own troubles to face and couldnt be with her because of it.... and that he still thinks highly of her and remembers when they were together and he had nothing but a bicycle...maybe im overly thinking it...eh.

I think that this song might be talking about a young relationship. It begins with him asking a girl out on a date. the part about the bicycle makes me think about what is maybe silly or contrived attempts at conversation. like he was thinking hard about what he would say to her on the date, but forgot. i think it is a song about innocent relationship. together in a silent movie, not a silentmovie but a movie without conversation, he tries to woo her but messes up, his happiness become sad when he cannot spur conversation as he had planned. he completely looses the girls when the world learns of her beauty. if he had remembered to mention the bicycle he might have had a chance to make conversation...and maybe continued the relationship.

but i am sort of a pessimist.

The "girl" in the song is obviously the bicycle. He's fallen in love with his bike and wrote a song about how great a lover it is. DUH!

yeah i agree with mika culus kinda.
I think it's about a guy who wants to be with a girl but he knows he screwed it up on the first date (at the cinema where he couldn't make conversation). I don't think she's really annoyed at him, he just really likes the girl and acted dopy at the cinema. But he says he'd hop the fence to make ammends - he wants to say sorry for it and he hopes their relationship doesn't end. cos he knows that everybody else has found her beauty. I reckon the bicycle is just the means he used to get to the girl to say sorry. and he's basically tryin to think of anything to say to her to keep her interested. I'm not sure what all the references to the girls creativity is 'lyrical case' 'be sure to write it in your book' 'beauty of your verse'

I think that only the melody of the song is upbeat, and happy. If you listen to the lyrics I think that the song is about a girl that he truly respects and cares about, but he keeps messing up the way he treats her. “I’d hop this fence to make amends I hope this movie never ends” I think that in the song he cares about the girl but doesn’t know how to communicate he feels and gets frustrated, because the bicycle is a symbol showing it’s a cycle of many similar relationships. That is what I thing, but maybe I am being too pessimistic.

Mikaculus-
""""I think that this song might be talking about a young relationship. """""

-yes good reading
I would however like to interpret the bicycle as "Easy Conversation or how easy it is to conversate". Then with that... it's sitting beside her in a silent movie- the silent movie is their relationship or possibly first date. AK liked this girl so much it was hard for him to talk to her. This made him sad because he didn't have the courage to and he thinks about all the happy days he could have had if he had talk to her and he realizes that it is really is as easy as riding a bicycle which keeps going just like a conversation can easily be done.

Eventually the girl comes across another guy who didn't act so much like a deadbeat...
and he hopes the movie between them two never end because he doesn't want his chances with her to end.

Then I think he talks about wanting to get a bj from her in one part of the song. then with that he wants to jump the fence between him and himself and talk to her- and say that he is sorry for not being able to talk to her/being such a deadbeat.

That's all I got-
other possiblities which are less likely and I thought it off the top of my mind:
a choir girl in alabama he came across (mentioned her in the song Around The World... Alabama baby girl said hallelujah good god girl- I wish I knew ya... but probably not... just thought that since he is talking about a book and a lyrical case- but that guess is probably way far off from what the song is about)

I think I need to disagree with you guys. I think this is one of those songs that can be taken at face value, which is basically, a young love. Seems to me that this is just a sensual love song. But I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure he says "Gotta a lot of NERVE and a lyrical case"

Anyway, terrific song. My favorite B-Side.
My favorite line (although I change the words a bit...)
"Sitting there in a silent movie
Beside the only girl who really ever knew me"
I know it's 'moved', but I like 'knew' better.

And I think mikaculus is right.

For some reason it reminds me of the movie Annie Hall...
