They've had chances to make this big city seem so small
Under stage lights, in rooms packed from window to wall
Like the sound of a smile or the distance of song
Only measured in time as the kids sing along
They are the ones who make a difference
Get these people on their feet
They say, "Let us be heard. Hear us out."
Can you hear?
The crowd is calling, "Hey, sing louder now,"
You've got to show them what it means to be alive
Dancing through the night has never been so rock n' roll
You've got a good thing and it's time to let them know
Win their hearts with words unlike the pages left at home
Secrets kept from critics
No one ever wants to know
Can you hear?
The crowd is calling, "Hey, sing louder now,"
You've got to show them what it means to be alive
Dancing through the night has never been so rock n' roll
You've got a good thing and it's time to let them know
Sing louder now
Let's dance the night away
Under stage lights, in rooms packed from window to wall
Like the sound of a smile or the distance of song
Only measured in time as the kids sing along
They are the ones who make a difference
Get these people on their feet

However, they're also "National Nobodies," Not many people know (knew) them outside of Baltimore.
I love every single one of their songs though!
ATL = LIFE!!

Alright this part defiantly gets something going in me.
Here it is: Well with lyrics you kinda half to have them in some form. I'm not saying they have to rhyme im just saying they have to be in a form to fit the song.
So you can't really use everything you want to in a song.
I have a bunch of notebooks i write at home, but of course i cant use all of them for lyrics cause they wouldnt really fit the song.
So the lyrics he's winning people over aren't like tthe stuff he has written at home in which he probably expresses himself more using more detailed situations and detailed words.
It's true though no one really wants to know that kind of stuff because they won't be able to relate to something like that. Lyrics need to be more generalized sometimes.
I don't know if I'm crazy or if anyone will get what I'm saying it's just a though that came to my head and i needed to try to explain it. Keyword is try =/
let me know if you guys get what i mean though
I always thought "pages left at home" meant at the 'homes' (hypothetically) of the fans, i.e. bringing them something different and new, and giving them an escape from the realities of what they're used to.
but what you said really got me thinking. I totally agree that it could be generalizing it.
another thought I have is that ATL's early music wasn't generalized (look at we all fall down, and lullabies, you can clearly tell what that's about). what they're putting out now is the definition of generalization.
but yeah I don't know if what I said made any sence, but those are the thoughts going through my head right now...
'Win their hearts with words unlike the pages left at home'
it's kind of like they have to work even harder now cos they're out of their hometown so to everybody else, they're just nobodies.
they've obviously come a long way :)
and i don't think it's only the fellow maryland-ers who feel sentimental and proud and whatnot, but also their other fans who have been there from the beginning as well. :)
