old doubt and a girl by your side she's feeding your pride
as you go for a ride
down the star mile
world's rise as she lets you come in
a duo begins to the hollywood din
of the lonely

and all the gold dust in her eyes
won't reform into a ring
you had and lost the one thing
you kept in a safe place
remember the face
the girl who had made you her own
and how you left her alone

all's well at the base of the hill
you might need to fill
a prescription to kill
off the sirens
look down from your tower on high
and take in the night
look her right in the eye
she'll listen

and all the gold dust in her eyes
won't reform into a ring
you had and lost the one thing
you kept in a safe place
remember the face
the girl who had made you her own
and how you left her alone

life comes to those that'll choose
the regular news
over playing the blues with the light on

and if you burn the road that'll lead you
back to her in time
i'll watch you turn to stone
can't find the sublime
she's moving on without you
the tide breaks
you watch the stars fake
they gather you back to their homes
i guess it's better than being alone

General Comment:Also I'm pretty sure it's "All the gold dust in her eyes, won't reform into rain." Not "reform into a ring."

General Comment:I don't know the exact meaning but, like everyone else, I relate it to my life. I was in a relationship at the end of high school. We stayed together in college at the beginning but recently he cheated on me with the excuse that it was too hard to be alone. So to me at the end when he says "I guess it's better than being alone" It's like "Well this is what you wanted I hope it's worth it."

I'd like to think that he'll realise we he was wrong now that he doesn't have me but mostly this song is just assisting me in wishful thinking.

General Comment:To me, this song is about a relationship in which the guy is neglecting his girlfriend due to a blossoming career. He just keeps on letting her be second best, taking it for advantage that she'll always be there. Eventually, she leaves him and he begins to fall apart without her- 'you might need to fill a prescription to kill off the sirens' could be taking pills to ease the regret he feels for letting her go. He knows it is his own fault, and regrets it with all his heart, but it's too late.

General Comment:The thing that is great about this song, is that you can interpret the lyrics is so many ways, i think every comment has it right. Joshua Radin has created a song that everyone can relate too and apply it to their own life.
To me, it's simply about a boy and girl who were in love, until he left her. After which she fell in love with someone else and he regrets leaving her 'cause he realizes he loved her. The last verse is talking about how he wants to get back with her but isn't sure he can, and if he can't have her, he will probably ever find love again.

General Comment:I definitely see it as this girl he was with adored him but he didn't appreciate her, and then he ended it found someone new, but now he's regretting it cos he realises he threw away something really special.

General Comment:I think he's talking about two girls here. The first one is beautiful and loved and perhaps "famous," but in all the glamor of that relationship, he's forgotten about the one girl who really cared about him. And he's gonna loose her. Sorry dude.

General Comment:To me, this song is about a guy who was in a relationship with a girl he truely loved. When they ended, he uses a new girl to 'feed his pride' and to help himself to feel better. It is written from the first girl's perspective, telling him that 'all the gold dust in [the new girl's] eyes wont reform into a ring [how he felt about the first girl]'. She talks about how he might need a perscription to kill off all the sirens in his head that are telling him he's with the wrong girl.

Just my take on it ;)

General Comment:Most of your descriptions about someone becoming famous and forgetting about the one he loved is probably correct, however, after see The Last Kiss and personally relating to it, this is what the lyrics mean to me.

"old doubt and a girl by your side she's feeding your pride"
--a guy is out (without his girlfriend, fiancee, etc.) and is flirting with another girl. It feels good to him because it reminds him of being single. He is also scared because his single life is coming to an end because of this serious relationship ("old doubt"). The girl at the bar is "feeding his pride" and making him feel that single rush again.

"and all the gold dust in her eyes
    won't reform into a ring"
--The sparkle in the girl's eyes is great for the night but it will fade and can never amount to what he see's in his girlfriend's/fiancee's eyes.

"you had and lost the one thing
you kept in a safe place
    remember the face
the girl who had made you her own
and how you left her alone "
--basically he slept with the girl at the bar and lost the best thing in his life - the girl that helped make him who he is.

"all's well at the base of the hill
    you might need to fill
    a prescription to kill
    off the sirens"
--his mistake is killing him and he constantly thinks about what he lost

"look down from your tower on high
    and take in the night
look her right in the eye
    she'll listen"
--he has to swallow his pride, tell his girlfriend/fiancee the truth and that he was wrong

"life comes to those that'll choose
    the regular news"
--sometimes the married life doesn't seem as exciting as the single life but the fun of the single life gets old and people begin to long for the security and commonality of being married

"and if you burn the road that'll lead you
    back to her in time
i'll watch you turn to stone
    can't find the sublime
    she's moving on without you"
--obviously she doesn't take him back and moves on to a better life with someone who treats her right and respects her

    "the tide breaks
    you watch the stars fade
they gather you back to their homes
i guess it's better than being alone"
--he's back to the bars and one night stands again, lying to himself about enjoying being single, but deep down he knows all these "new and exciting" encounters at bars aren't filling the gap of losing the best thing that he had - but I guess "it's better than being alone"

Again, this is just my interpretation based upon what I've experienced and saw in The Last Kiss.
