Crouched down on a rooftop
In my mother's high-heeled shoes
I'm wondering if I will drop
Fly away with you

I can smell the rain coming
But I won't leave until it falls
I'm gonna soak in its downpour
Til I hear my mother's calls

Cause I am playing God
I am raising hell
As far as I can tell
I am all alone
Alone in this world
Alone, with you

I carry Spring rain in my hair
Weighted sorrow in perfect clouds
Bursting in the air
Wash away and drown

The roof slips beneath my feet
As the branches back away from me
The softest grass turns to concrete
But I will fly
I will fly
You will see

My Opinion:until i really thought about the lyrics and listened to them, all this song was to me was a sad yet beautiful melody played in the episode of degrassi when jimmy got shot. but now, it speaks of suicide. the line that gets me the most is "the softest grass turns to concrete". Just imagining hitting the ground at that split second before your dead almost makes my heart stop...

General Comment:This song is very depressing, but strangely, it sooths me. I think it's just about feeling like your alone and no one is around to help you out of this horrible feeling on nothingness. I can relate, sadly.

General Comment:It could very well be about suicide, I definately see the possibility in that, but for me this song has always meant something else... a little more personal. To me its about trying to be bigger than you are, and trying to hold yourself together for- or because- of someone else.
    The first verse:

General Comment:OK I really don't think this song is about suicide. It could be--it can mean whatever you want, but that's not what I got out of it. I'm thinking it's someone making decisions that the people around them suggest they shouldn't.

General Comment:This song is so sad. It is a song about committing suicide, and I do believe that it is at the mourn for her mother that drives her to do this. Because she mentions her mother:
    "Crouched down on a rooftop
    In my mother's high-heeled shoes
I'm wondering if I will drop
    Fly away with you

I can smell the rain coming
But I won't leave until it falls
I'm gonna soak in its downpour
Til I hear my mother's calls"

Which could mean that she is going to jump off the ledge of the building when the rain starts, and then when she is dead she will hear her mother calling out.

"The roof slips beneath my feet
As the branches back away from me
The softest grass turns to concrete
    But I will fly
    I will fly
    You will see"

Could mean that as the rain pours she does slip off the building, and as she is falling and after death she will "fly" to heaven to be reunited with her mother.

General Comment:just throwing out ideas, what about if it is her mother. Her mother died and she will not hear her mothers call until she dies. So this girl shows God that she angry and that she controls her life= commits suicide. But it just an idea...

General Comment:The song is about losing someone extremely important. We can't be sure if it's a lover, a friend, family member...could be any.
It's not as if she's so angry with the world and God and everything that she's going to kill herself to be with that someone. She, in a way, knows that this is what she has to do. It's not some random decision she made. She just...knew it had to happen.
'I am playing God', I think means that she has the total will on her life, even though God created her. She may have not brought herself into the world, but she knows she can take herself out.
'I am rasing hell' could mean that, since she's choosing to do this, it could alter many of her family's and friend's lives.
I am not religious in any shape or form, but this song is wonderful.
'The roof slips beneath my feet...
As the brances back away from me...
The softest grass turns to concrete.'

General Comment:It's not that she can't live, it's that she wants to be with whoever died. It's a beatiful suicide.

General Comment:So obviously the song is about suicide, but if you look deeper at the emotion involved- she is so calm, cold, detached. This is one of my absolute favorite songs EVER simply because it is so honest. That is the key to good lyricism. And plus I LOVE Degrassi!
