Shut your eyes and think of somewhere
Somewhere cold and caked in snow
By the fire we break the quiet
Learn to wear each other well

And when the worrying starts to hurt
And the world feels like graves of dirt
Just close your eyes until
You can imagine this place
Yeah, our secret space, at will

Shut your eyes, I spin the big chair
And you'll feel dizzy, light, and free
And falling gently on the cushion
You can come and sing to me

And when the worrying starts to hurt
And the world feels like graves of dirt
Just close your eyes until
You can imagine this place
Yeah, our secret space, at will

(Shut your eyes)
(Shut your eyes)
(Shut your eyes)
(Shut your eyes)

Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)
Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)
Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)
Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)
Shut your eyes and sing to me (shut your eyes and sing to me)

My Interpretation:This song is about making a bookmark in your life - in this case, imagined - to hold onto when things get bad.

The lyrics are quite literal. "Shut your eyes and thing of somewhere/ Somewhere cold and caked in snow" This sets the scene for the rest of the verse, which is the only metaphor for sex that the song contains, "Learn to wear eath other well". The verse instructs the listener, who may be a love of the lyricist, to imagine a safe and comfortable place.

"When the worrying starts to hurt .... You can imagine this place/ Yeah, our secret space, at will": This is the crux of my interpretation of the song. The lyricist is saying that when things get bad, the listener can imagine that special place with them together, and everything will be ok. While others think that the lyrics are transcribed incorrectly, they are merely trying to shape the song into their interpretation. With the lyrics as written, this is my best interpretation.

The next verse is similar. Imagine being a kid and spinning in a big office chair, and the happy, dizzy - good - feeling you get. The lyricist would like the listener to remember those times and that feeling for when the world starts to creep in "like graves of dirt".

The repetition of "shut your eyes" implies that there are bad times, often. Just shut your eyes and think of these good things.

Unlike some of the other comments here, I do not believe that this whole song is a metaphor for sex. Yes, there are undertones of it in the first verse, but these undertones do not dominate the meaning of the song.

General Comment:"Shut your eyes" and "Imagine this place" that's a "Secret space"? All of the lyrics in this song ring of meditation to me.

    General Comment:Awesome song.
I just REFUSE to believe that he says "YOU'RE our secret space as well".
That just doesn't make any sense to me.
I think he says "YEAH, our secret space as well".
That would make more sense for the meaning about forgetting the flaws in the world.

But I guess for the sexual interpretation, "you're" would make sense.

Both are valid meanings, I can't choose which I like better. :/

General Comment:i agree totally with mooniczek.^^^(READ IT!)
read that interpretation, its exactly what i thought initially and its explined well.
basically in summary, its about making love, and the perfection and beauty of it. its certainly a very intimate relationship but lines about "wear each other well" "you're our secret space" and "falling gently on the cushion"...yeah, i think its sexual.

General Comment:The lyrics should go "...you can imagine this place, share our secret space as well"

Like other Snow Patrol songs, this is about an affair: the opening verse describes the lovers together, the verse mentions worrying, how bad life is apart and imagining themselves together again, etc. The second verse is the lovers playing and enjoying just hanging out with each other.

General Comment:It's actually YEAH, our secret space AT WILL.... meaning they can imagine it whenever they want (at will) all they have to do is shut their eyes. And with 'you're' at the beginning it makes absolutely no sense...
