Gettin' born in the state of Mississippi
Poppa was a copper and her momma was a hippie
In Alabama she was swinging hammer
Price you gotta pay when you break the panorama
She never knew that there was anything more than poor
What in the world does your company take me for?
Black bandanna, sweet Louisiana
Robbin' on a bank in the state of Indiana
She's a runner, rebel and a stunner
On her merry way sayin' baby what you gonna
Lookin' down the barrel of a hot metal .45
Just another way to survive
California, rest in peace
Simultaneous release
California, show your teeth
She's my priestess, I'm your priest
Yeah, yeah
She's a lover, baby and a fighter
Shoulda seen it coming when it got a little brighter
With a name like Dani California
Day was gonna come when I was gonna mourn ya
A little loaded she was stealin' another breath
I love my baby to death
California, rest in peace
Simultaneous release
California, show your teeth
She's my priestess, I'm your priest
Yeah, yeah
Who knew the other side of you
Who knew what others died to prove
Too true to say goodbye to you
Too true, too say say say
Push the fader, gifted animator
One for the now and eleven for the later
Never made it, Up to Minnessota
North Dakota man was a gunnin' for the quota
Down in the badlands she was saving the best for last
it only hurts when I laugh
Gone too fast
California, rest in peace
Simultaneous release
California, show your teeth
She's my priestess, I'm your priest
Yeah, yeah
California, rest in peace
Simultaneous release

Great song though, for real. I love Anthony's lyrics, how they all seem so abstract but you can always tell there is meaning in them. And Flea and John compliment each other so well, especially in the solo at the end of the song.
-Lennon Marie (13 years old)
what comes to mind is a young man's quest in women, and, various types of women. I relate to this big time. In sight of women, attraction and what a man or boy has to do because he's a ladies man. Also what the ladies do to him. Its almost like a chronicle of experiences how you meet parents and all that stuff. You get to know so many sides to a girl and also the obvious pitfalls of being dumped or unable to handle/keep Up. I think it's about finding a way, not giving a hoot when it goes wrong and it's always in relation to California... Chill man.
It seems like a mourning song, so it's probably the singer recalling this girl he had a thing for. A pretty straight forward story of a girl who grew up in the lower class and a poor family that turned to a life of crime as a means to get by. Eventually she finds the thrill in crime and travels northward(?) robbing banks. Eventually she finds her end, gunned down by a man from North Dakota before she could ever make it to Minnesota. (which probably has no meaning besides the fact that it rhymes well with the song)
it's a really interesting song and it sounds good too. it's too bad they don't ever play good songs like this on the radio anymore.
