Lyrics for Baby Jesus as interpreted by Airyca

Baby Jesus Lyrics
you know that statue
that statue of baby jesus
in the window
in the window of the 99 cent store
last night I saw the owner kiss it
and whisper in its ear
I was walking home from walgreen's
and he did not hear me see him
and on the
very very next morning
all the subway cars were hallelu-leluing
welcome back the baby king, the baby king
all the believers they were smiling
and winking at each other
I could honestly say I was scared for my life

they said, all the non-believers they get to eat dirt
and the believers get to spit on their graves...

you know that statue
that statue of baby jesus
in the window
in the window of the 99 cent store
they've been showing it on the news
it was thirty times its size
with a megaphone and a heart-shaped bruise
it was hovering in the skies
and all the
subway cars were hallelu-lelu-leluing, hallejuah
welcome back the baby king, the baby king
all the believers they were smiling
and winking at each other
I could honestly say I was scared for my life

they said, all the non-believers they get to eat dirt
and the believers get to spit on their graves...
believe!...

you know that statue
that statue of baby jesus
in the window
in the window of the 99 cent store
when I woke up I ran and bought it
and locked it in my closet
with a little bread and water
and a flashlight and a first aid kit til he grows

I think it's about how everyone is seeing images of jesus and mary all over the place. In a sandwhich, on a tree... in a dollar store. Everyone gets so worked up over it and excited... even the subway cares seem to be praising halellujah. And it's all very silly when you think about it.

it makes me sad - this girl is so brilliant musically, but spiritually oppressed

it really pisses me off how much anti-semitism is in christianity, it's not supposed to be that way - how many times does the new testament say 'to the jew first and then the gentile'?

This is one of my favorite songs of hers. XD It's so funny. I love how the last verse is mocking the way all of the people and the news are acting like it's the real Baby Jesus. So then she sticks it in her closet to get away from all of the attention until he's older.

I'm christain and I agree with this song. I really dislike the way other "christains" try to shove religion down other peoples throats, and who insult other's because of their beliefs. It makes the rest of us look like horrible people.
Jews, athiests, catholics, etc are just fine in my book!
Anyway, great song, great singer/songwriter. Let's all get along, yada yada yada.

I haven't actually heard her sing it, so I can't be sure of the tone, but I find it to be a mix of anger and mocking at the attitude of Christianity that it is Jesus or hell. I can understand that a non-believer would be annoyed at the attitude, if and when it exists. So, in a sense, as a Christian I'm not bothered by the bulk of the song. I think she expresses an understandable fear of what some zealot might do to her in the name of his god. I'm sure any culture where religious zealots rule has its share of terrified non-believers (see also the Middle East, where unbelief gets you executed).

The only line that offends me is "they said, all the non-believers they get to eat dirt
and the believers get to spit on their graves...
believe!..."

I know there are morons out there who send out this kind of signal - but I can tell you the attitude of the Bible toward the unbeliever is ANYTHING but "spit on their grave." The attitude is one of great sadness for the lost - be offended if you like, but do not accuse us of hate.

Oh yeah, I still love you, Regina - and I respect your honest sentiment here - you can only be who you are, and better to be who you are than to fake it!

Man. This song is fabulous. It's exactly the right amount of mockery and playfulness. Plus it's just damn fun to sing along to. Only Regina could pull this one off. =)

I agree with crod "the song is about the way she feels being jewish in a largely christian country." this song is that, but it also simple and funny so i think, ploodie, you've got kind of the wrong idea here. I love this song, it's so hilaious and very much a fun song to sing to. However, if someone in the pop/R&B world tried something like this, they wouldn't be able to do it for sure and they'd probably get sued by laods of people and such because some people just take fun songs like these all uber serious.

"This song speaks for itself really,
the belief in jesus and the biblical story in modern times. "

I like when people say "it's obviously about..." or "this speaks for itself..." and then I totally see something different in the song than what the person feels it's obviously about... he he!

I agree with those that said it's about the feelings of being Jewish, or another other religion, in a predominately Christian country... especially at Christmastime... (Regina's commented millions of billions of times that her songs are rarely/never autobiographical or about herself really in any way...)
To me it is simply about the scary "you're either with us or against us" attitude of a lot of Christians...

i think it's about how christian religions are based largely on propaganda in today's world. since she is jewish, she feels uncomfortable having all this crap that she doesn't believe in shoved down her throat. the baby jesus statue represents this propaganda and she sees it as silly. this song encourages people to be open to many religions and to not exclude or shun others because of their religion.

It could be about the propaganda. Which is funny because there's plenty of it in other religions as well.

However, any "Believer" who would spit upon a "non-believers" grave is probably not really a believer. My Book says to love Him is to love others. That is what this Baby Jesus ended up asking for... to love. Pretty simple, but nothing about spitting on graves.

Also kinda funny considering she just had a hit song for a movie written by a Christian author. Try to remember these things. If a person claims to know Jesus but does not love you... they will stand before Him one day and claim to know Him, to which He will say "I do not know you."

Hopefully this song is about fanaticism. It frustrates me too. Just try not to write all of us off or you are no better than the ones that write you off. I love Jews... its really no surprise to me that she is Jewish, it makes sense that a favorite songwriter of mine would be of Chosen People.

God bless.

I love Regina, I think she is awesome the way she uses her voice so beautifully to share her thoughts. The subway does bring to mind the craziness of the city, and the people trying to force their ideas on you...it is scary. But Christianity really isn't about that. Spreading the word should be done by acting as a loving neighbor, and should be voiced by actions as a Christian and through open conversation. No one wants to be force fed religion, or anything as a matter of fact. God loves everyone, not just Christians. So it does suck when people try to use fear as a tool for conversion, rather scaring people away from God than bringing them to him. God Bless everyone who decides to read this.

For those who heard the actual song you know it's not angry and a very fun way of being derisive. I don't think she's actually poking fun out of Christianity in particular, but I'm sure she used Baby jesus to make an example out of it. I think this whole song is to poke fun out of extremists and how seriously some people just take religion.
