Dear Mr. President I
Come take a walk with me
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?
Dear Mr. President
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb, and we're not blind
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh
How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President
You'd never take a walk with me
Would you?
Come take a walk with me
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?

Song of Social Comment.
To me, this song means, that Pink is disappointed by the way the president at the time (George Bush) did things. It was about the fact that President Bush was too selfish and he made America a sad country. He didn’t care about the fact that he hurt people. He took the children away and he just stood there watching people suffer and did nothing about it. He hated everyone who was different. He saw people suffer, and only cared about himself. In the song, it states that he watched people get sadder and sadder and Pink actually asks, how does he sleep at night? To me, it seems like Pink was really emotional, to the fact that some would ask, ‘What did the president do to her’?
The first time I heard this song I started to cry. I have found that a lot of people who have money forget about the people who don't. One of you said something about how pink is singing about not having money when she does. But really she is just getting awareness out about poverty and I am happy she is. I think pink is simply showing people that while the government does one thing for the country they forget about the people who have nothing. This song is helping because it will catch their attention if people start making a fuss about it. I don't think she is banging on one president, she is simply trying to understand what is going on in their head. In 1 year 11 of my family members have died and the next year one more and this year it was my cousin who wasn't even 16. The government doesn't think about the people who are in pain because of cancer or death, for me it was both and I always seem to be crying because I try to hide the pain which only comes out at night.
I pride pink for this. We are lucky enough to have the freedom of speech and she is using that fact without exceeding the limit. She is not telling us to hate the government, she is just saying what she is confused about. She is opening our eyes. And by the way yes, music artists do a lot of hard work, dont ever doubt that. Thanks for reading!
1. The music industry IS hard work. it is incredibly difficult to shelter your life from the press, to be always looking good, to write songs like this with a message etc., and although you may not see it, it's true.
2. She never says she is singing from her own perspective. she is using her position in the public eye to help those who are forgotten to be noticed. she is getting the attention of the president and parliament, letting them know that people are suffering and need help.
Just my view :) and I'm from Australia, and I think you could be saying 'Dear Miss Prime Minister' and it would also be true. another song with a similar meaning, if you are interested, is 'The sea is rising' by Bliss n Eso.
Let me tell you about hard work

Let me tell you about hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you about hard work

Let me tell you about hard work
Hard work, hard work, you don't know nothing about hard work
Hard work, hard work
How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
you'll never take a walk with me...

I don't like how much people drag Ex-President Bush down, though. That job all but ruined him, and I hope he's alright. Whether or not I agree with his political views, I believe in treating people like human beings--something a lot of people have forgotten how to do.
That was a real man up in office, you know. A person. With feelings, and deserving of at least a modicum of respect.
