Lyrics for Desert Song as interpreted by everydayishalloween

Desert Song Lyrics
We hold in our hearts the sword and the faith
Swelled up from the rain clouds, move like a wraith
Well after all, we'll lie another day
And through it all
We'll find some other way
To carry on through cartilage and fluid
And did you come to stare, or wash away the blood?

Well tonight, well tonight
Will it ever come?
Spend the rest of your days
Rocking out just for the dead
Well tonight
Will it ever come?
I can see you awake anytime, in my head

Did we all fall down? [x4]
From the lights to the pavement
From the van to the floor
From backstage to the doctor
From the Earth to the morgue
Morgue, morgue, morgue

Well tonight
Will it ever come?
Spend the rest of your days
Rocking out just for the dead
Well tonight
Will it ever come?
I can see you awake anytime in my head

All fall down
Well after all...

Oh wow, I only just discovered this song when I stole my brothers copy of Life on the Murder Scene. It's so beautiful, I love the rawness of Gerards voice and the little bits of electric guitar. It's an excellent chill-out song. BTW it's not a cover.

this song was orginally written for "three cheers for sweet revenge" i think it does belong on that album, it would of ended it perfectly because at the end of thier first album the demolition lovers were driving across a desert. also if this was on three cheers it wouldnt of left everyone thinking "ZOMG!!!! so what happend to the demolition lovers!!!!!11111" i think its a little odd that they names quite a few of the songs of three cheers after songs by other bands eg. "hang 'em high" which was the title of a song by van halen, "helena" was a song by the misfits and if desert song was on that album i could of added def leppard to my list. anyway i think its a beautiful song and its my favourite mcr song.

i think that this song may be about fasting.. like how jesus fasted in the desert... hints the name of the song.. he keeps falling over cause he's so week..

"We hold in our hearts the sword and the faith"
talking about how we posses the power to control our earthly desires through faith

"Well after all, we'll lie another day
And through it all
We'll find some other way
To carry on through cartilage and fluid"
he saying that we will live through it despite how much our bodies say we cant.

"And did you come to stare, or wash away the blood?" Speaking about the people who would tempt you.. then those who will help you with your struggles

"Well tonight, well tonight
Will it ever come?
Spend the rest of your days
Rocking out just for the dead
Well tonight
Will it ever come?
I can see you awake anytime, in my head"
Talking about how long the fast seems to last..
how they imagine that in which they desire.

"Did we all fall down? [x4]
From the lights to the pavement
From the van to the floor
From backstage to the doctor
From the Earth to the morgue
Morgue, morgue, morgue"
Showing how week they feel.. almost as if they are on edge of dying

all i know is this song is amazing, there are no words to describe it. Gerard sings it brilliantly. he puts so much feeling into it. this is one of my favorites. it has somethign about it... as soon as i heard it i immidiatly went and learned it on my guitar. i love it so much. my chemical romance contributes so much as a band and they help there fans soo much. mcr has helped me soo much ... and they , through their songs, give me hope. seeing them live was the best thing i had ever experienced .. and im seeing them again in a few days !

The title Desert Song is in reference to an operetta and movie of the same name.

It's basically about a daring leader and his group of rebellious banditos who threaten the safety of a French outpost. Gerard's reference of this old film in the context of the song positions himself as the leader of this group of rebels, travelling unendingly through a wasteland. He's said that My Chemical Romance were never a safe band, and back when this song was written, that statement was probably a little more true.

i think its probly what someone said on the first page about it being a continuation of demolition lovers and i think its about him wanting to see someone that he misses but he cant b/c hes on tour and hes waiting to see them but hes afraid that hes trapt and he might not evr get to see them and when he gets the chance he'll already be dead

well thats my really long guess i suppose it could be some what right

First of all, I have to say that I absolutley LOVE this song!
As to the meaning; I think it's about Gerard's alcoholism and depression... and how people reacted...
"Did you come to stare, or wash away the blood"
- Possibly saying 'Are people going to actually help him, or will they judge him?'
"From the lights to the pavement"
- Saying how when he was onstage and drunk, it seemed okay, but when he came off the stage (back to the real world - the 'pavement') reality hit him.
"From the van to the floor"
- Could be a reference to that time when he was drunk and fell on the floor near a van (seems a bit obvious, but you never know!)
"From the earth to the morgue"
- Could be saying that he realises what the alcohol is doing to him.
"Well tonight, will it ever come?
Spend the rest of our days rocking out, just for the day"
- I think this could be talking about insomnia ('will it ever come'). And how everything can feel so good when you're with people and having fun, getting drunk, but the moment you're on your own, unable to sleep, you feel awful.
"All fall down,
Well after our own"
- I think that means that no-one's perfect, and people might let you down? Or how he felt he failed people?
I'm not that sure about any of it, really. That's just what I think! Any other ideas?

was this written for three cheers? if so, it could be somthing to do with the concept of the album, which is about two lovers who die in a gunfight in the middle of a DESERT, and the guy wants the girl back so he makes a deal with the devil by promising him the souls of 1000 evil men. but yeah. it's an ace song.

i get the vibe of a loved one dying and almost haunting him.

(did you come to stare or was away the blood?;
spend the rest of your days rocking out for the dead. Seem like someone telling him about what they think.)
It could be about his grandma, I'm not sure when this was written; but I know it was originally on bullets.

He obviously feels very strongly about this person, so again, it could be his grandma.

i think i actually know what he is talking about. he's talking about what would have happened if they, the band, had given up. "from the lights to the pavement, from the van to the floor, from backstage to the doctor, from the earth to the morgue"
he is ultimately saying that if they didn't get their big break when they, they would've gone downhill and eventually died. over reacting, maybe? i hope so. but thats what i think it means.
