My seratonin's rationed, I'm coughing
I kind of caught the blues
But you won't catch me complaining
To the super or the news
Because the carrot's going to dangle
Until the diamond is appraised
And all that talk made me feel rich, baby
But tell me, who is going to pay
For braces to make straight
All that Colgate keep my white tooth innocence
My smile is in sad shape
All the dead weight I got tired of carrying
It's got me looking for a friend
Or a crutch I can depend on

There's endless entertainment
Thinking the world is going to end
I've lived some nights convinced of it
But I keep waking up again
With my girl wrapped around my body
And a towel wrapped around my head
She said, "You passed out in the bathtub, angel
I thought that you were dead"

Don't die on me, don't tread on me
My love, my love is not the enemy
You don't have to be no one's biography
Yeah, they try to write you down and hope you go crazy

So don't, so don't, don't fall for that Christ bait
It's about as passe as rockstar arrogance
Tomorrow's a new day but it's that same face
And you'll be wearing it
Now you don't have to be content
But you do have to get on with it

General Comment:What album is this off of? It must be an earlier one judging by the "So don't, so don't, don't fall for that Christ bait" in contrast to Oberst's recent "Four Winds" stage parallel to Dylan's "Gotta Serve Somebody"

General Comment:these lyrics arent 100%. little mistakes like "to the super or the moon" i think at least. this song kind of goes back to old old bright eyes lyrics such as those of padraic my prince, again about religion and being drunk in bathrooms. lol, old habits die hard i guess. but this song makes me think of marriage, actually. the line "carrots going to dangle until the diamond is appraised" makes it seem almost like a rejection. like the offer is going to stand until your ready. but im sure there are many things that insipired this song, or it could all be bullshit that looked good on paper, whos to say but conor right?

General Comment:Don't know if anyone else noticed this, but . . . I believe this song is a reference to Neutral Milk Hotel's "King of Carrot Flowers". The two biggest similarities seem to be "Carrot" in the title and the lines from this song "So don't, so don't, don't fall for that Christ bait
It's about as passe as rockstar arrogance" referring to the repeated screams of "I love you Jesus Christ!!" from "King of Carrot Flowers"

General Comment:I'm thinking (though I have no proof) that the female vocalist is Maria Taylor. She's touring with him now, and she does vocals on a few songs off the Four Winds EP. She has a great voice.
