The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

...It's all setting up for "I say, 'Goodbye" (inside, time, side all more or less rhyme)... it's what you expect, and then you get the actual lyrics. It's stunningly well-executed and beautiful :)

he dies in the previous song after he helped the people at the end of the world when the Antichrist came. n in this song gods let him go back to the morning in may to repay him for his good stuff. n he knows hes going to go back to heaven afterwards anyways. so he choses to go with her and only live throughout the morning.
i get the Antichrist and God thing because of the biblical references in the lamb and the dragon.
I don't think he dies in the previous song...I think he and the dragon get sent back into time to Part1 then he slays the dragon or just leaves him there or something and he has saved the wrold yet his heart is still hurt so the sages or whatever grant him one wish to go back and save her. And this song is incredibly beautiful and moving and everytime he says those words "Thought I'd go for the ride" I get chills. Everyone I know has cried when they listened to this song.

This is such an amazing ending to the story. After everything, he finally gets back to "that morning in May" and rather then stopping her and changing her fate, he just goes with her. That way he knows neither of them will ever die alone, or have to be apart from the other ever again. It's so tragically romantic. The boys of Ludo are brilliant.
Truth!
The album is simpler than people are making it. It's brilliant, but Andrew (Lead singer and writer for Ludo) is a straight-forward writer. I will clarify the important stuff:
Part 1, Broken Bride- The Traveler has been struggling for fifteen years to build a time machine, and finally comes to the night when he will attempt to use it to save his dead wife - who died in a car crash in 1989. It malfunctions, and he is sent to prehistoric times. He is attacked by dinosaurs and retreats safely inside a cave.
Save our City- Meanwhile, after the Travelers departure, humanity is assaulted by zombies, King Simius (a kind of anti-Christ) and the imminent end of the world.
Part 2, Tonight's the Night- The Traveler has been trapped in his cave and basically chances the raptors and makes an attempt to get to his machine and try to save his wife once more.
Part 3, The Lamb and the Dragon- Barely escaping the predators, The Traveler starts the machine and once again it malfunctions, sending him all the way to the apocalypse - which had started in "Save our city". King Simius summons (an assumption on my part) The Dragon, which unleashes destruction upon the last of humanity. The Traveler, witnessing the awful events around him, makes a decision to sacrifice his time machine to save the world, and uses "his own dragon" to zap the Beast to another time - destroying the machine in the process. The Traveler is then visited by some kind of celestial beings (angels or the like), who are confused at his broken heart. He tells them of his sorrow at not being able to prevent his wife's death in the end. In payment of saving humanity, the celestials send him back to May, 1989, the last morning he spent with her...
Part 4, Morning in May- The Traveler finally sees his sleeping wife again after all of his effort and strife, and lies down with her. Soon though, she readies herself and leaves for her fateful car ride. Terrified that her fate will only repeat itself, he stops her from leaving at the last moment and gets in the car with her. Like before, the accident happens, and the Traveler dies with his wife.
Thus, concluding what is likely the best album written in the history of music.

today i listened to this album entirely for the first time...before i had just listened to Broken Bride, and Morning in May....you can imagine my confusion before listening to the entire albume.
Anyway now that i listened to it and read the lyrics (cause i didn't really understand what he was saying at first) i can safely condlude that is by far the best album that i have ever listened to.
If the music alone dosen't get you the story will. And not only that, they are able to do an epic story with also amazing poetry. I mean every line has so much meaning and i just love this album.
Now about this particular song. Although people have already given a good synopsis of the story. I'll try to keep this short. Basically what it all comes down to is love, yeah. love so strong that you would do anything for that loved one. And in this song we are only given a small point of view of the actual bride. (isn't that funny....This whole story is about her but she is only in a small part of the story.) Basically she loves him too. But oblivious of whats going to happen to her. And i don't think he trys to stop her because it would just sound crazy...can you imagine him telling her that he went back in time and all that jazz.....
