Lyrics for Crazy as interpreted by sercute4e

Crazy Lyrics
I remember when
I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place
Even your emotions have an echo in so much space

And when you’re out there, without care
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn’t because I didn’t know enough
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Possibly

And now that you are having the time of your life
Well think twice
That’s my only advice

Come on now, who do you
Who do you, who do you
Who do you think you are?
Ha ha ha, bless your soul
You really think you’re in control?
Well

I think you’re crazy
I think you’re crazy
I think you’re crazy
Just like me

My heroes are at the heart
To the life I want to live
And all I remember, is thinking
I want to be like them
Mmhmm
Ever since I was little
Ever since I was little it looked like fun
And as no coincidence I’ve come
And I can die when I’m done

Maybe I’m crazy
Maybe you’re crazy
Maybe we’re crazy
Probably

Oooooooo

'And now that you are having the time of your life
Well think twice...that’s my only advice' - love that line. I think it's about how we can all get a little 'crazy' now and again, do stupid things and to be honest, there's no such thing as being normal anyway. There's obviously something more to it...but I just can't figure it out as yet!

This song has two interpretations. The first focuses on growing up in a hard lifestyle. Being young, he was aware of the poverty and the crap lifestyle, so he escapes it by "losing his mind" - going crazy and partying.

Now he's looking back on his old self and warning himself that he needs to be careful with his party lifestyle. His old self believed he could still control his future ... but the current him laughs at his naivety (so maybe he's making a statement about the difficulties of escaping poverty in a societal context).

The "heroes" verse I think references how when he was younger, he looked up to young gangbangers ... how they lived a life that was fun, and they eventually lost their lives early.

The interesting thing is I don't think Cee-lo is being disapproving of those young gangbangers. I think in a sense, he think there's a sense of romanticism to it, and he caps the verse off by saying that although he didnt' live that life, he's still going to die, too.

So I think this song is largely about growing up in a poor environment, and how he dealt with it. Ultimately he still misses some of it (like the feeling that he was in control, and the romanticism of his young heroes) to his current life.

My slant on this is that it's about awareness, about when knowing something so well can be a bad thing, can disconnect you from those who still like it. He admired his hero, but when he finally got to where they were, it wasn't like he'd dreamed it would be.

I think this song is about idolizing someone who perhaps lives somewhat recklessly. Then when you finally get to be like them you should think twice about it. Also, because you are idolizing someone you aren't in control - just following along.

My heroes are at the heart
To the life I wanna live
And all I remember, is thinking
I wanna be like them
Mmhmm
Ever since I was little,
Ever since I was little it looked like fun
And as no coincidence I’ve come
And I can die when I’m done

So many people look at celebrities and other personalities and idolize them without ever developing their own ideas/personality. Why is America obsessed with celebrity and people we don't know. It's all kinda weird if you think about it.

Maybe I’m crazy
Maybe you’re crazy
Maybe we’re crazy
Probably

I actually heard an interview with one of the guys that wrote this on the radio. He said the two of them were in the studio chatting, and had recorded this sample and had it playing on a loop in the background, but didn't have any words for it. Then they started talking about whether you had to be a little bit crazy to be artistic, and the guy that sings just wrote all the words and recorded it that night (I think the guy said it was in one take , and maybe even made the words up on the spot but I couldn't be sure about that). When you read the words through with that story in mind, all the words fit into that idea, of whether you have to be a little bit crazy if you're going to be creative.

This song has a cery classic soung, which makes it stand out from most other disposable music from today, and makes this something unique. Plus its got the ability to stick in your head and go over and over, which only backs up how good the song is.

Sorry, I'm nitpicking, but "souly" isn't a word. "Soulful" is and that's the word to be attributed to Cee-Lo Green's voice. Massively powerful. I've enjoyed everything he did from Goodie Mob until now. Crazy is one of the best songs of this century, so far, in my opinion.

I agree with Tikka. There is obviously a correlation between creative "minds" and mental illness. I believe that when you start to know too much, one tends to analyze everything only to not understand why certain life scenarios happen the way they do. Hence the:

"And when you’re out there, without care
Yeah I was out of touch
But it wasn’t because I didn’t know enough
I just knew too much"

There is nothing worse than having things seem totally logical to you but everyone else sees it in the eyes of a Jerry Springer guest. This was one of Jim Morrison's downfall according to the other band members.

Nonetheless, I agree with everyone, this is a wonderful piece of music.

I think it's a little simpler than what I've read so far.
Just look at the words......we're all crazy, we're NOT in control.

i believe this song is about the duality of the human spirit and how there is a delicate balance to everything. if you haven't seen the music video check it out it's truly amazing. i think he's talking about that there are 2 sides to everything. one side of him can be crazy, the other is connected to the earth. i think this song is broad enough to be taken a million ways and that's what a good song does. nobody is right or wrong. beautiful piece of work and will be regarded highly for years to come I am very sure

My heroes are at the heart
To the life I wanna live

...This lyric is wrong. The proper lyric is

"My heroes had the heart
To lose their lives out on a limb".

According to Gnarls Barkley themselves (Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo Green), this song, just like many others on St. Elsewhere, has a loose thread of mental instability in the meaning. I'm not sure exactly what it means, but it's definitely a better meaning than your average "I love you" pop song.

This song struck me the first time I heard it. Initially the video is a portrait of the singers being intertwined with ink blot sketches. This could lead whoever watching to perceive the song as an ode to mental instability and how life is perceived. I see the song as a reference to escape from experience. The line “I remember when I lost my mind; there was something so pleasant about that place.” I saw this line as a reference to repression and aversion, causing him to step outside of himself to a quiet place when parts of life became difficult.
Continuing he goes on to admit he’s out of touch, perhaps because of his loss of innocence from experience. He says” It wasn’t because I didn’t know enough, he just knew too much.” Making the assumption that the quiet place is no longer safe and he must find another way to cope. All of this affects the way he sees himself, and how others see him, making him question his mental capacities asking if this makes him “crazy”.
Despite the hectic beginnings, I feel the artist finds piece and way to channel the way he is thinking. In turn offering advice from what he has experienced. Asking the listener to think twice in spite of however they’re coping. Also the line “who do you think you are …bless your soul to think your in control” I believe this to be a reference to God. Some religious parties laugh at those who think they can control destiny, putting fate in God’s hands. And after all is realized, with faith and within himself he realizes that many are struggling or have struggled just like he and they in fact may be crazy as well.

This is a crazy good song. I love the beat. When this song first played at the radio station I most often listen to, a lot of listeners reacted negatively. It's true that it's really different that what is normally played on this radio station, but I hope they keep it, because I absolutely love it. I think it's growing popularity now..
