Lyrics for Comatose as interpreted by N0 C0DE 79

Comatose Lyrics
Consider me an object
Put me in a vacuum
Free of all conditions
Free of air and friction
Yea, I’ll be hanging upside down.
And there I will swing
For all eternity
Fell it rising, yea next stop falling
Feel it rising, comatose, with no fear of falling
Consider me an abscess
Leave me in my vacuum
Blood on all the pistons
Running my transmission
Feel it rising, yea next stop falling
Feel it rising, comatose, with no fear of falling
Feel it rising, yeah next stop falling
Feel It rising
High above I’ll break the law,
If it’s illegal to be in love,
Leave the hatred, on the cross
Yea I’ll be hanging upside down and here I will swing
For all eternity
Feel it rising, yea next stop falling
Feel it rising, comatose with no fear of falling
Feel it rising, yea, next stop falling
Feel it rising
Something never thought you’d be part of...

This song was originally titled "Crapshoot Rapture" but the band changed the title for the upcoming album, I just thought I'd post the lyrics again as opposed to changing the title of the song,...

The song has a pretty fast paced punkish flavor....
I am gonna take a stab at it and say that it's about free thought, or free thinking,...

In a world where everyone considers such a thing dangerous, like in an "if you think for yourself than you're crazy and need to be commited" kinda way... or perhaps enlightenment ? of being in a situation you don't exactly want to be in,.... and then the struggle to try and remove yourself from it,... Maybe I need to hear the song a couple hundred more times.... or hear some info from the band about it or something...

especially this part:

High above I’ll break the law,
If it’s illegal to be in love,
Leave the hatred, on the cross

It's hard to grasp what he's getting at here. The song is awesomely reminiscent of other fast-paced rockers like "Blood" and "Spin the Black Circle," but the lyrics are much more out-there. I think it's just about how being in a coma is almost like being free from the burdens of the world (much like GNR's "Coma")... hence the "no fear of falling."

When I first heard it, I thought of other fast-paced rockers like Spin the Black Circle and Last Exit. It is a very good song. The song being about gay marriage may make sense, but I don't think it really has much meaning behind it. Just about being in a coma. Though with Vedder you never know.

I like the Gay marriage Idea,

High above, I\'ll break the law
If it\'s illegal to be in love
Leave your hatred on the cross,...

To me that single line would define the song being about gay marriage, telling religious institutions that typically hold anti homosexual marriage beliefs to practice what they preach and \"judge not lest ye be judged\"

An extremely relevant topic at this point in time with the ignorant likes of that stupid assed methodist church down south,...
The one that protest Soldier\'s funerals because apparently they died because america is gay.,..... yeah,...

Me being a christian, can proudly say these people do not reflect my beliefs,... love doesn\'t descriminate, why should we?

Good thinking Stephen Flow,. that was a pretty sweet catch,..

I obviously don't know and could be wrong, but I think the gay marriage interpretation is too specific and literal.

Based on the title and all the lyrics, I took it as sort of a political activism song:

"Consider me an object / Put me in a vacuum / free of all conditions / free of air and friction"

I think he's saying politicians will treat us like objects if we never bother to question them or participate in elections. I took the air and friction to mean criticism and questioning of leaders. Ideally, these politicians would want to be in a situation where they make decisions and no one ever questions them, like how Bush supporters said John Kerry was insulting our troops for being critical of the war in Iraq. (the vacuum is not the hoover kind but the kind in phyics describing a situation where there's no atmospher like in space)

"Yea I'll be hanging upside down/ and there I will swing/ for all eternity"

I think this is just saying if you don't spend the time to consider whats going on, you won't know where you stand because you're not educated...you won't know whats right or wrong, whats rightside up and whats upside down.

"Blood on all the pistions/running my transmission"

I thought this compared us to objects again in the eyes' of a leader. Our lives aren't valued and our blood is used to run the "engine" or society they want to create.

"High above I’ll break the law,
If it’s illegal to be in love,
Leave the hatred, on the cross"

Everything interprets this as gay marriage. I'm not saying they're wrong but I didn't see it as this.

I thought "by fall in love" Vedder is just referring to being passionate about something/anything. If these super conservative groups criticize anyone who disagrees with mainstream decisions, they are in a sense making it illegal to be passionate about your beliefs, and Vedder's saying if its a law to blindly follow, its not a law worth following and he'll break it.

This was poorly written but I just wanted to express my opinion and I hope those who read it could understand it.

Again, I'm not saying I'm write and everyone else on this forum is wrong, it's just what I got from the song which I really liked.

ohh no og_tool,

I'm sorry if you took it the wrong way,...
I wasn't fingering methodism in general, I typed out what I thought the name of the church was,...

I think it was the northgate free methodist church or something like that,
I am a protestant too,... and believe me, I don't support that kind of bullshit,...

On a note of this song,.... They didn't play it last night :-/

I think this is a nice little rebellious song that you should “feel” as a whole rather than try to analyze word by word. Here is how I feel about this song:

“Consider me an object
Put me in a vacuum
Free of all conditions
Free of air and friction”

This symbolizes separating himself from the rest of the society, from all the restricting conditions (friction) it imposes on us. Eddie wants to be seen as an independent individual, capable of doing whatever he wants to do.

“Yea, I’ll be hanging upside down.
And there I will swing
For all eternity”

Separating himself from the rest of the society is not seen as a bad thing, rather he is finally free and allowed to do what he wants, limitless.

“Fell it rising, yea next stop falling
Feel it rising, comatose, with no fear of falling”

This part is pure energy. Just listen to the way Eddie performs it! It’s bloody awesome! It is an incredible roller coaster ride full of energy and action not limited by reason or thinking – just impulsive, fearless, rebellious experience, not quite considering the consequences, just enjoying the feeling!

“Consider me an abscess
Leave me in my vacuum
Blood on all the pistons
Running my transmission”

Here he clearly says he doesn’t give a f*** what the rest of the society thinks about his actions. His actions seem very rebellious to the society, but that is exactly what gives him power and purpose. So if they want to make him an outcast, he encourages them to do so because he simply can’t be bothered to be part of the restricting conservative system.

“High above I’ll break the law,
If it’s illegal to be in love,
Leave the hatred, on the cross”

I think here is stated once again that in his little own world he will do whatever he believes in his heart is right. No matter what the rules say. Also, we are reminded that we are all Christians, regardless if protestant, catholic, orthodox or whatever you like, we are supposed to love each other and be tolerant to other peoples’ actions, not to judge them by what WE believe is right.

“Something never thought you’d be part of... “

This last line could be a hint that everybody’s beliefs are something very private, he does not ask the society to understand him, just to tolerate it.

For me a great great song, I just love it, I think the overall message is to live your life how YOU want and not how the society wants you to. Also a message to tolerate other people doing the same. OMG, world would be such a nice place to live if people would listen more to what some guys have to say ;)
Once again, what brilliance by pearl jam! These guys rock hard! :)

Very punkish and fast-paced song. Sounds like it could have been taken off of Vs. or Vitalogy. I have been thinking of this song as a very fast-paced Tremor Christ. I don't know why, but both songs, while musically different, have the same atmosphere.

Not 100% sure what this song is about but its my favorite off the the new album. HAHA.

Not the best song on the album but my favorite.

Makes me wanna jump off the walls and that cannot be underestimated in Music. Sometimes its good to just listen ignorantly and rock out. LMAO.

I do agree with the gay marriage and other concepts though.

Does any one see how similar this album is with Vitalogy?
The opening songs are all rockers for 4/5 tracks.
Random "rocker" in the middle (Unemployable /Corduroy)
Ballads- (Gone/ Betterman, Come back/ Immortality, Parachutes, Nothingman)
Weird sort of poppy sing along (Big Wave/ Satans bed)
Intresting.

i think dabavill said it best, i agree with his interpretation

while those three lines could be interpreted as pertaining to gay marriage, its too specific. if the song was about gay marriage, we would see lyrics relating to it earlier in the song, and there would be more than three lines devoted to it.

in a sentence: this song is about the freedom to rebel and freedom of ideas and actions; we are not the tools of society, but individuals.
