Lyrics for Favorite as interpreted by delial

Favorite Lyrics
oh, lie
I thought you were golden
I thought you were wise
caught you returning
to the house you caught fire
but I know that I was your favorite
and I said amen

wise, found favorin' heaven
and I at your side
but I never felt sorry
for those shimmering lies
when I laid down and cried
I was faking
and I said amen

last night I dreamt
that I hit a deer with my car
blood from his heart
spilled out onto my dress and was warm
he begged me to follow
but legions of sorrow defied me

oh, lie
I thought you were golden
I thought you were wise
when I caught you returning
to the house you caught fire
but I know that I'm your favorite
and I said amen
oh, favorite
and I said amen

This song is even more amazing live than as a studio recording. Worth going to see her live just for this song and "Set Out Running". She has the voice of an angel.

I concur. This song is amazing live. Thankfully she put out "Live from Austin TX" recently so I can enjoy it without seeing her every day.

This song makes me think it's about a young woman in a relationship with an older man. It's as if she loves him, but not with her whole being, rather because he offers her some kind of security or convenience.

She is singing about a past relationship. When she says "found you returning to the house you caught fire" she means that the relationship is over (because he screwed it up) and he is trying to come back. She is his favorite means that he will not get over her. Any one have any ideas about the deer blood?
