Lyrics for Better as interpreted by Dyst

Better Lyrics
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better

The hardest part, this troubled heart
Has ever yet been through now
You've healed the scars that got their start
Inside someone like you now
Had I known, ah, I been shown
Back when along he take me
To break the charge that brought me home
And all but one erase me
I never won, not that I could
No matter what you pay me
Replay the part, you stole my heart
I should have known you're crazy
If all I knew one night with you
I'd want someone to save me
It'd be enough, but just my luck
I fell in love and baby

All that I wanted was
Now I'm gone, you better
You know I know better
Now I know you better

So bittersweet, this tragedy
Wont ask for absolution
This melody inside of me
Still searches for a solution
A twist of fate, the change of heart
Cures my infatuation
A broken heart provides a start
For my determination

No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better

No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better

All that I wanted was
I know you know, you know better
You know I know better
Now you know me better

I never wanted you to be so full of anger
I never wanted you to be somebody else
I never wanted you to be someone afraid to know themselves
I only wanted you to see things for yourself

All that I wanted was
Now I'm gone, you better
Now we all know better
All I wanted was

Never thought that with you I'd manage to avoid the invitation
Of promised love that cant keep up with your adoration
Just use your head, and in the end you'll find your inspiration
To choose your steps and wont regret this kind of aggravation

No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better

No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better
No one ever told me when I was alone
They just thought I'd know better, better

Best song so far, for sure...

And again, he's talking about a relationship that didn't end up well. I say "again" because most of the new songs talk about something similar. I read a post somewhere saying Axl is a deppresive manicac or something like, stating that whatever that would hit us emotionally, it would hit him 100 times harder because of that. Makes sense... though, come to think about it, wtf do we know about Axl emotions? Anyways, great song, real clean sound... and yes, great song and sad at the same time.

Kickass song. Everything we've heard in 2006 is great and Better is no different. It is my second favourite, right behind I.R.S.

This song has some very heartfelt lyrics, combined with some innovative guitarwork from Mr. Finck himself. The outro is fantastic, the best and most memorable part of the song.

This song rocks, I'm completely addicted to it. Very catchy, truly the way to go for GN'R.

I dont like when people keep complaining that its nto the same with out slash, or its not the old gnr, when its obvious by the sound that he is going for something totally new, this isnt suposed to be the guns n roses from the late 80's its a new band with the name, thats it, any way who wrote all fo the songs for gnr, masterminded it and sang it all, axel, so slash is replaceable, as well as the others, you could have had an amazing band that did the smae thing with out duff or slash, but ther wouldnt have been a great band with out axel, and its manic depressive othre wise known as bi-polar and tehre is medication which im sur ehe is on that makes him feel pretty normal...

I never thought of it like that. It kinda makes sense.. Especially this verse:

I never wanted you to be so full of anger
I never wanted you to be somebody else
I never wanted you to be someone afraid to know themselves
I only wanted you to see things for yourself

it's just a song about a relationship not working and his reasoning for the part he played in it not working.

I was downloading these Buckethead albums via bittorrent and saw that they they included G'NR's "newest" album (Chinese Democracy) in there, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm not sure if it's real or not.. but some of the tracks end abruptly and some of it is unfinished.. Anyone else having this problem?

It could have been about Izzy, after all they were best friends their whole lives and then Izzy left so Axl would probably feel the need to vent more about him than about Slash. Who knows, it could be about any of them. If makes sense at parts, but then in other parts it doesn't make sense to be about one of them. Lines like;

A broken heart provides a start
For my determination

really make me think it's about a member of the old band, because it would make sense that the lose of their support or the fact that they left made him even more determined to start afresh with this whole new band and image. However, the bits where he pretty much confesses his love for this person would suggest that he was in love with a member of the band. Then again I have always thought that Axl is a little gay...just a little, i don't know why.

Anyway, when I first heard this I thought it was about a member of the band.

Chinese Democracy seems to be split into two subject matters:

1. Erin Everly/Stephanie Seymour and the demise of those relationships. Half of this record is really a broken heart album, and I think this is what Axl intended it to be back in the early 90s before the original Gunners left him.

2. A response to Slash/His old bandmates/The media who doubt him.

This song seems to fall in the "1" category. It's clearly about a broken relationship. Axl has said that he wants the songs on this album to be played to Stephanie Seymour's child so that the child could hear Axl's side of their breakup.

It seems this song seems to be Axl, years later, trying to explain to Stephanie his position in the relationship: "I never wanted you to be so full of anger..."

It seems to be about his desire to get over it. But he still, all these years later, can't get over it. It must be very haunting for a man who's seen his whole life come crumbling down for the past fifteen years.

Indeed, he can't get over it: "this melody inside of me still searches for solution." And the album is the result of the inspiration from the break up: "A broken heart to provide the spark for my determination."

this song reminds me of don't cry especially where it says:

"I never wanted you to be so full of anger
I never wanted you to be somebody else
I never wanted you to be someone afraid to know themselves
I only wanted you to see things for yourself"

i really connected that to don't cry especially its music video.

This is easily the best song on the album. Most of the other songs are too generic for my taste. This song seems to have a few different possibilities, which already are lined out above. =)

slickvic is absolutely clueless. Axl wasn't the mastermind behind Guns. If anything, Izzy is the one who came up with the raw versions of most of Guns' early hits. But they all built songs together. Duff was brilliant. Slash had killer riffs. Axl had the melodies.

And I'm also tired of the "It isn't the same without Slash" stuff. Exactly. It isn't. Get over it. New band. New Guns. Still very good.

I love "Better."

I think the song is also about a past relationship of his. Whatever the opinion, Axl was Guns N Roses and always has been. Yeah, Slash and Izzy were there from the beginning but they are not now, so clearly, what does that tell you? In my opinion the lead singer, and one that has such a presence like Axl, is the group. Would it really be Guns N Roses if Slash were there but some nobody on lead vocals? No. No way. The lead singer makes the band. You didn't see Fuel make a comeback doing it that way, did you?

Back to the song, I love it. I love that it's written in a way that can be interpretted in any direction. I'm glad he's back.
