Lyrics for Ashes of the Wake as interpreted by Chris_Ryff

Ashes of the Wake Lyrics
We killed a lot of innocent civilians.
To us every civilian in Baghdad was a terrorist.
They said 'they are now in civilian clothes' that makes everybody free game,
But if they came in our perimeter, we lit 'em up.
And when we would pull the body out, and when we would search the car, we would find nothing.
This took place time and time again. No harm, no foul, that's OK, don't worry about it,
Because this is a new type of war, this is an eradication.

I honestly feel we're committing genocide over here,
I don't believe in killing civilians, and I'm not going to kill civilians for the United States Marine Corp.

yobbo and sacrificed you guys are fucking retarded. with out war America would be new britan and germany full of nazi's that want to take over the world. when the fuck have canadians ever done anything that affects the world. the most they have ever done was sending troops to the Mace in WWII, and they came late and nearly ended up getting the Polish army killed because they were so fucking slow. and how about the Iraqi's go and blow up Place du Portage and lets see if you wanna go get them back. Americans take pride in there country and if you fuck with us we will fucking fight back!

Lemme say, great song. Amazing instrumental, and strokeslot's interpretation is pretty haunting...

With that aside...you know, for some reason, i doubt callling people retarded or insulting their countries is going to accomplish anything or change anyone's minds. But sometimes you gotta put your better judgment aside, and I /really/ have a bone to pick with yobbo over something he said:

"I don't care what reasons, in fact this shows why terrorism is good, if it kills useless pricks who justify killing innocent civilians, then you know..."its simply the cost of war"

Are you calling the troops useless pricks? FUCK YOU. I'd like to see you go over there and do what they're doing, you ignorant assfuck.

You can't judge a country's entire population by what their government choses to do. That isn't fair. Not even the majority of America fully supports Bush's actions in Iraq. It is senseless to hate an entire country for what one man does. I suppose there's no point in debating it though. People will hate me by default since I was born in America, there really isn't any way to change it. What all you America-hating idiots have said is not only a package deal fallacy from hell, but its racist and ignorant.

Here's the correct lyrics

"We killed a lot of innocent civilians.
No harm, no foul, that's OK, don't worry about it,
Because this is a new type of war, this is an eradication."

"I honestly feel we're committing genocide over here,
I don't believe in killing civilians, and I'm not going to kill civilians for the United States Marine Corp."

Fucked up how some people actually think that war is a good thing. I think that trying saying what the world would look like without war is pointless.. since war has been going on since mankind.

@Mz102489 (wtf)

Dude, what you're saying is so not true. if there was no war, WWI would not have happened, so Hitler would not have a grudge against france or England, and would not have tried to cease power in Germany. We would be talking some evolved old germanic/celtic language, you might not have been in America at all because without war there is no killings of Native amaricans either. etc. etc.

I think as long mankind rules this earth war will allways exist. That's because humans have different opinions about things, so they argue about things, sometimes arguements get out of hand between countries and voilą you have a war on your hands.

Love this song. I think LoG used this quote to show their disaproval of the Iraq War in general.

War is never good, people get killed.
When a war gets started and is done, it changes the world.
You might say, we wouldnt speak english if it werent for war, but I say it would be DIFFERENT.
Different isnt perse bad, or good, its just different.
But one thing is true: War involves useless killing, and do you like useless killing? No... so is war good or usefull? No...
Anyway thats my interpretation about war in common, and of course the war in iraque is outragous, I cant take America serious anymore for quite some while :/

Anyway the song is brilliant and I totally agree with the lyrics.

I'm going to speak the truth, because nobody has.

Not many people like war, that's a fact. Because War kills innocence (Not all of which are as innocent as you'd like to believe, they do indeed pick up weapons to shoot at soldiers.)

But, like it or not, War is a necessary part of human history, and it will continue to be that way, for civilization to realize a great change, it unfortunatly needs something like a war

you idiots... seriously... the song is about the war in Iraq and the soldiers over there are feeling misgivings and doubt about killing civilians that are being targeted as hostiles. I mean, it's spoken dialogue, not even cryptic metaphor which is LOG's usual awesome style

You can see simply from the comments on this song why there is war, people with different opinions express those opinions, and people with less than civilized ways of looking at things get offended and share their opinions, in the form of "You're gay, I'm right, you're wrong, go die", so then what happens? Those two people are in an argument over who is right and who is wrong. You know what happens when this escalates? The argument turns into hatred, the hatred turns into fighting.

Now, what happens when this happens on a grander scale, of say, countries? The same thing happens, but it's called a "War"

The world is the way it is, and people will always disagree with other people, or agree with others. There is nothing short of some supreme being taking away all rational thought and freewill.

I am not for the war, but I do believe some wars are necessary, to everyone who thinks that war is a bad thing, would you retaliate if provoked by someone? How about if a friend was being attacked by someone? If someone was killing millions of innocent people because they were born with a different ancestry, like Hitler did?

I believe the correct way to view is war is case by case, not blanket. War is never a good thing, but sometimes the good it causes outweighs the bad that it causes, in this war is that the case? Who knows, the war is not over yet, but at the rate it is going, the negative will far outweigh the positive, unless you're George Bush or George W. Bush, because then you finally got to see Hussein hang from his neck.

I'm an American, by the way. And all you people who think that every American believes what the government or the President does, you should learn before you speak for other people.

Avandir, war is always wrong plain and simple. Yes however it is needed sometimes and is often the lesser of two evils. Yobo we are there because Bush is an idiot plain and simple he used war on terror as an excuse to invade Iraq. We should really be focusing on Afghanistan which is where the majority of them are hiding right now, the cartel in Mexico which could very well become a national threat soon, or even on Saudi Arabia where 20 of the 25 911 terrorists came from. Don't lump everyone who lives in the US into one group, a LOT of us don't support our reasons for being in Iraq.

Evil. That's what this song is about.

A man, a former Iraq war veteran who happened to have participated in the invasion itself spoke the lyrics in an interview. Lamb of God took it and showed in this song how it would have felt. The carpet bombing of Iraqi Cities, especially in the first part of the song after the first lyrics, was what I thought of.

It's not just about that, it's the horrifying destruction that it causes, the rush of incredible, traumatizing, unimaginably horrifying violence that leaves people shooting and getting shot at scarred for their entire lifetimes in war.

In other words, the pure evil of war. This song is supposed to help you feel it. And abhorre it.
