Lyrics for Dance, Dance (Demo) as interpreted by drtomoe123

Dance, Dance (Demo) Lyrics
She says she's no good with words but I'm worse
Barely stuttered out
"A joke of a romantic" or stuck to my tongue
Weighed down with words too over-dramatic
Tonight it's "it can't get much worse"
Vs. "no one should ever feel like.."

I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I'll write them
So you need them just to get by

We will own your thoughts
We'll own the song stuck in your head
We'll leave you kicking and screaming
So you can thank us in the end

Dance, Dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, Dance
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me

(I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me)

You always fold just before you're found out
Drink up its last call
Last resort
But only the first mistake and I...

I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I'll write them
So you need them just to get by

Why don't you show me the little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress, love

Dance, Dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, Dance
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me

Why don't you show me the little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress
I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me

Dance, Dance
Dance, Dance
Dance, Dance
Dance, Dance

I heard this version before the one that gets played on the radio, and I have to say, I like it a LOT more. It just sounds darker, more desperate, I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to the other, but this one just GRABS you.

I have a different interpretation from any others I've seen. I don't think the speaker was ever in a relationship with this girl; it sounds like he wants her, but she's already in a relationship. She's given him some signs of wanting him back, but every time she's about to act on it, she loses her nerve. ("You always fold just before you're found out.") They interact with one another on a superficial basis, which I think because of lines like 'She says she's no good with words, but I'm worse-' they've never done anything but talk to one another, but neither is really confident with that, and they never say anything but cliche lines. The repetition of 'dance, dance' in the chorus seems to fit this as well- Just dance, imagine how you'd like your life to be if you were free to have it how you wanted.

The line, "Why don't you show me the little bit of spine you've been saving for his mattress, love?" is one of my favorites- Just listen to the way he says 'love,' he's challanging her. Then there's "I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me." It sounds like she's passive, she doesn't take action, and he's telling her, you need to decide what you're going to do. Act. Take what YOU want, for once, instead of letting yourself get pushed around. BUT he's miserable because of things outside of the situation, and maybe she's acting sympathetic, but because she's 'no good with words,' her sympathy doesn't carry much meaning, and nothing she does will, unless she finally takes action, and, well, crawls into bed with him.

My cousin showed up with this on her Zen Micro. I thought something was a bit fishy, and as soon as the "song stuck in your head" verse came in I knew it wasn't the "real" version of "Dance, Dance." But yes, I absolutely love the Demo. It hasn't been altered in a studio, it's all desperate, and there's a cool verse in it. I like both "Dance, Dance" versions just as much, but this one definately has cool points.

I just took about twenty minutes to download the demo of "Dance, Dance." It was time well spent, believe me.

I agree, this is the better version of the two. But i guess they cut it down for ease of performance? That verse owns the better part of the lyrics for the song so i'm kinda sad they didn't include it but happy 'cause it means only a few people know about it. *sneaky*

As much as I love that extra verse, I can see why they cut it. It sort of jumps up on you and doesn't really fit. It's like they were talking about the relationship (whatever it may be), and then they jump from the one-on-one realtionship to the more broad relationship of musician/audience........

Limewire, düd.

GAH!! WHY did they take the verse out!? This version sounds way better than the studio one. The way the drums are more emphasized gives it a deeper feel of sincerity to it. Anyone know where I can get tabs of the cut verse?

"We'll leave you kicking and screaming so you can thank us in the end."

Awesome.

I read the lyrics over and over, and I seriously think it's just about pure lust. 'I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me' and 'Why don't you show me that litttle bit of spine you've been saving for his mattress' It's just saying That the speaker really wants this other girl. But the girls got another guy anyway so he can just watch her dancing. 'Dance Dance' is what he's saying cos thats all he can have of her.

Heard the demo before I ever heard the real version. I loved the demo, mostly because of the extra verse.. but when I heard the radio version on burnout 4, I was like.. hmmm.. nice.. I fell victim to distortion.. but after listening to it a billion times.. i uh.. yeah,, went back to the demo.. which I rarely listen to anyhow..

in the other version, someone commented saying it was talking to fans about being in a band and writing songs for the mainstream.

I thought it was a nice try, but didn't really work. In the demo version, I think it fits even more, though. I'm really not sure either way.

This song is really, all about deceit. He is either with a woman who is running around on him (cheating) or attempting to be with a woman involved in a relationship, and trust me, she is not completely against it. She may be undecided and messing with both him and the other man.

Arrgghhh! I had no idea about this version. I love the regular version and downloading it as we speak. I just learnt the bass part for the intro of this. How come I didn't know?? Wow, I feel like such a bad FOB fan lol. Ahh well, it is to be corrected. I think the extra verse rocks from the lyrics. ^^
