Lyrics for The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song (With All Your P... as interpreted by brettjrob

The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song (With All Your P... Lyrics
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

If you could blow up the world with the flick of a switch
Would you do it? (Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya)
If you could make everybody poor just so you could be rich
Would you do it? (Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya)
If you could watch everybody work while you just lay on your back
Would you do it? (Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya)
If you could take all the love without giving any back
Would you do it? (Ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya, ya)

And so we cannot know ourselves
Or what we'd really do
With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

If you could make your own money and then give it to everybody
Would you do it? (No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no)
If you knew all the answers and could give to the masses
Would you do it? (No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no)

Are you crazy?
It's a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want
Because you cannot know yourself, or what you'd really do

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

Such a great song. Haven't listened to the rest of the album much yet, but this is an awesome opener.

Well I think it's about the top 5% of American who own all the wealth, knowledge and power. So this song showcases the decisions in their lives and how they react to them

I agree with Yanaku. This song is about those who are in power that don't really help society but themselves. My favorite line is:

"And so we cannot know ourselves
Or what we'd really do..."

"With all your power..."

It makes me think? What kind of potential could the world have if all the people that had all the resources shared it with the less fortunate...and I'm not talking about philanthropists...
wow, what a life!!

i think this is basically saying, you can have the power to do something, so if you use it will you do it for your own gain, or would you help others, people who really need it?

"It's a dangerous thing to do exactly what you want because you cannot know yourself or what you'd really do" i think might mean that, you don't know what you'd do until you get to use your powers.

basically, selfish or selfless, your choice.

thats my take on this song anyways.

ace song!!!

I think you're all thinking a bit too small. I don't think it's about the top 5% in particular and their decisions. I think the song is in criticism of all the people who say "Everybody should just to this" when talking about politics or something but don't actually bother to inact change. They complain about this and that, but what would they actually do if they had some power?

A liberal can preach all he wants that if he were rich he'd share all his money, but if he actually had the money, would he? A conservative can say he'd make abortions illegal if he could, but if given the opportunity and the right amount of power, would he? It's impossible to tell when you're not in that situation how you would act.

And just because you think something's right, no matter how strongly you believe it, it might not turn out how you think:

"Are you crazy?
It's a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want"

So, yes it's about people who aren't helping society, but those people...are society. And while that sentence on its own doesn't make any sense, hopefully the rest of this did.

it's a great song...you can listen to it over and over again without getting sick of it.
i love the video clip, with all the girls strapping the food onto a persons body and sending all these obese people after him.
"Are you crazy?
It's a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want
Because you cannot know yourself, or what you'd really do"
i think this line is really quite true. many people change once they've got everything they want etc...or the other way around!

Has everyone heard the same song? I have to agree with feedthegoldfish, the song is about society, not the top 5%... "You cannot know yourself or what we'd really do". (Just look at Jamiroquai!) It's about the fact that good intentions don't always last - of course they should, but unfortunately human nature is egoistic and lazy... So all the more reason to admire the fewpeople who actually DO something.

I wish this song was called "With All Your Power".

"Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" is so lame.

I pretty much agree with Thihihi. Human beings are by their very nature greedy and lazy so even though people say they would help the world if they could, given the chance and the ability, they probabily wouldn't.

I disagree. "Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" disarms you and lets you think that it's a simple bubble gum type song - the meaning hits you that much harder when you then realize the deeper meaning of the song. Awesome video - classic Lips, with the underlying humour (in that respect, this reminds me of what I think is there best song "Do you Realize")

feedthegoldfish and thihihi seem right on to me. It's not a knock at a certain group of people alone and it's questioning the way human beings think in general, not their political views.

No matter your viewpoint, it's pretty difficult to tell what you would do in a situation. Someone who says they would share all of their wealth would possibly just make excuses about how they don't have enough to share or believe that they worked hard and want to give everything to their heir. Someone who says they wouldn't give a dime of their fortune away may give it all away to researching a disease they lost a loved one to or to people who helped them when they needed it most.

The "yeah yeah yeah yeah" and "no no no no" are like a flood of common thought. If you could watch everybody work would you? A lot of people would be fine with it, but there are people who need to see everything through themselves or people who just need to be working and contributing. If you could make your own money would you horde it all? Even if you were counterfeiting you might want to slip some money to try to help someone who needs it...someone needs to be put in a situation to see how they really think.

This song is amazing. Listen to it in a pair of good headphones and your mind will be blown wide open. To me, this song is about empowerment, but also the fear of our own power. As Nelson Mandela once said "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us." Even further, this song seems to suggest that with that power, comes a responsibility to use it for good.

I'm with jkapprentice. I think it's not about the richest and most powerful, it's about the rest of us. Notice how the lyrics say "What WOULD you do," meaning what would us commoners do if we had their power? As if to ask: If the shoe were on the other foot, would we really do anything different?

MeAndOnlyMe: This song is actually called "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song (With All Your Power)"

Most of the songs on this CD have really long song names, but aren't usually called that.

I really like this song. I never really listened to the lyrics untill recently. It made me laugh at the part where they switch to saying "no no no no no no no no no".

I think that the meaning has more or less been covered. I saw this live this weekend, and it was a really great experience. Phenomenal crowd energy, lots of singing along, and an absolutely amazing stage show to compliment the wall of sound from the Lips.

I agree with all of you. However, I think it's impossible to hear the lyrics of this song and not think that The Lips are referring directly to the GWB administration.
