Fall is here, hear the yell
Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we are going to be friends
Yes I can tell that we are going to be friends
Walk with me Suzy Lee
Through the park and by the tree
We can rest upon the ground
And look at all the bugs weve found
Safely walk to school without a sound
We safely walk to school without a sound
Well here we are no one else
We walk to school all by ourselves
Theres dirt on our uniforms
From chasing all the ants and worms
We clean up and now its time to learn
We clean up and now its time to learn
Numbers letters learn to spell
Nouns and books and show and tell
Play time we will throw the ball
Then back to class through the hall
The teacher marks our height against the wall
The teacher marks our height against the wall
And we dont notice any time pass
Because we dont notice anything
And we sit side by side in every class
The teacher thinks that I sound funny
But she likes it when you sing
Tonight Ill dream in my bed
While silly thoughts run through my head
Of the bugs and alphabet
And when I wake tomorrow Ill bet
That you and I will walk together again
Because I can tell that we are going to be friends
I can tell that we are going to be friends
Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we are going to be friends
Yes I can tell that we are going to be friends
Walk with me Suzy Lee
Through the park and by the tree

And look at all the bugs weve found
Safely walk to school without a sound

what about him doing ths cover is an oxymoron
The White Stripes (Original, I Might Add) Version Is Slower, And More Peaceful, Which Works For The Song.
But Jack Johnson's Voice Definitely Trumps Jack White's Voice. Jack White's Voice Is Perfect For... Well, All The Other Music He Does, Whereas Jack Johnson's Voice Was Made For This Type Of Song
So Its Hard To Say.
I'm Personally Biased Towards The White Stripes' Version Simply Because It Is An Original And I Heard It First, But Jack Johnson's Version Definitely Turned My Head.
(SIDE NOTE: Was I The Only One A Little Surprised By The Oxymoron Of Jack Johnson Covering A White Stripes Song?"
It's hard to say which version of the song I like better. They aren't drastically different from each other.
Johnson definetly has a more peaceful voice though. White's has too much of an edge to it, even when he tries to soften it.
I guess it just doesn't seem right to say I like a cover better when the original is so good...
I am aware of what the White Stripes' version sounds like, and I know it is also fairly slow and peaceful. But I was saying that Johnson's version is even more so, and it works better that way.
but I can understand your not liking of Jack White's voice, even though I am a fan :)
this is a very nice cover though, and a cute song
The lyrics remind me of all the fun and wonder of childhood, and of the easiness of making friends back then. And you really don't notice any time pass, do you? To quote another one of my favorite songs, this one from Sandy Denny: "Who knows where the time goes?"
