When Harry met Sally it was settled
That Mary Jane would fall for Spiderman
The story was set in stone like
Tarzan and Jane, Yoko and John
You were like my Hollywood movie
The butterflies and Central Park kiss
Of course you would pursue me, I was Julia Roberts
I mean, how could you resist?
Well, I am the Fourth of July
I'm throwing you a fire in the sky
You could go blind in my light
But you were looking for an orchid
And I will always be a dandelion
Dandelion
So I put on the best of my Warhols
I could have been your Marilyn Monroe
But you had only eyes for the Mona Lisa
You shared my cab ride all the way home
But I am the Fourth of July
I'm throwing you a fire in the sky
You could go blind in my light
But you were looking for an orchid
And I will always be a dandelion
I am a middle class home, I am a worn out banjo
I'll never dance in Swan Lake, I'll never play the cello
I am the Northern Lights, I am invisible
I am a dandelion, I am forever wild
I am the Fourth of July
I'm throwing you a fire in the sky
You could go blind in my light
But you were looking for an orchid
And I will always be
You were looking for a tea light
And I will always be a forest fire
A dandelion...
That Mary Jane would fall for Spiderman
The story was set in stone like
Tarzan and Jane, Yoko and John
You were like my Hollywood movie
The butterflies and Central Park kiss
Of course you would pursue me, I was Julia Roberts
I mean, how could you resist?
Well, I am the Fourth of July
I'm throwing you a fire in the sky
You could go blind in my light
But you were looking for an orchid
And I will always be a dandelion
Dandelion
So I put on the best of my Warhols

But I am the Fourth of July
I'm throwing you a fire in the sky
You could go blind in my light
But you were looking for an orchid

I am the Fourth of July
I'm throwing you a fire in the sky
You could go blind in my light
But you were looking for an orchid
And I will always be
You were looking for a tea light
And I will always be a forest fire
A dandelion...

this is her, knowing this guy, and falling in love with him .. and with the hope that things will play out as in a movie.
"Of course you would pursue me, I was Julia Roberts
I mean, how could you resist?"
this is her hope, her dream, that just like any hollywood movie, where she's the star (e.g. julia roberts), he would also fall in love with her. because that's how hollywood movies are .. formulaic and simple.
"But you were looking for an orchid
And I will always be a dandelion"
but unlike a hollywood movie, the love is not fated to happen ..
and from there, she just goes further depth about how she's not what he's looking for (and perhaps it's implied that he's missing out by not paying better attention), but she is who she is, and she's ok with that.
Also, in concert, Antje has said that she bases most of her songs on her life, so it could be a sly reference to something that actually happened to her. She looks vaguely like Julia Roberts (y'know, not a *lot* but at least a little bit) so it could be something that some boyfriend said about her at some point, so she incorporated it into a song about him.
It talks about a failed love, but it's so... I don't know; I fell happy when I listen to this song...
:)
I mean, how could you resist?" Is that supposed to be sarcasm??
