I was blinded by the lights I saw reflecting in their eyes
It blinded me from the sea of everybody's smiles
I was young at best so I thought I'd test the night
I thought that we could leave before the lights fell down
I wasn't listening

[Chorus]
So carry on young gentlemen
I have done all that I can
I have done all that I'll stand for
Carry on young gentlemen
I have done all that I can
I have done all that I'll stand for

We left after dark, the sun had fallen for the moon
And all the moments raced, its going way too fast its way to soon
So I sat alone before a moment they came back
Now I'm stuck right here reeling in the slack now from my previous night

[Chorus]

Deliver me now from everything we should not do
It's so unpredictable instead of knowing just what you're gonna do
And even the moments that will pass something is different
Even though its hard to mean that
I wasn't listening

[Chorus]

I'll stand for something, I'll stand for something
I will stand for something, yeah

Carry on young gentlemen
I have done all that I can
I have done all that I'll stand for

    General Comment:^ Agreed.
Just because he writes beautiful poetry and lyrics about people he loves... does that constitute as homosexuality. Somehow, I think not.
Beautiful song, like all of Teddy's.

General Comment:definatly not gay. hes too hott to be gay. plus he just...doesnt seem gay at all. it buggs me that people think that just because a guy can sing, play 5705268952363 instruments, has amazing hair and eyes, everyone thinks hes gay. personally i think guys are jelous. they wish they could be that cool =]

but Anyyyyyways back to the song...in and interview he said that this was his favorite song on the album and he also said what he wrote it about. he said it was about all his friends growing up and kind of moving on with their lives. like highschools over what do we do now type of thing.

but the whole virginity thing aswell as his career moving fast does make a TON of sense it does seem to fit good.

Adilah--i read your comment right after i started writing mine. hm thats strange either hes contradicting himself of one of us is going insane lol.

General Comment:I think the song is about finding and setting your own personal boundaries and discovering things for yourself. Virginity, a fast paced career and just making mistakes in general all fall under those categories.

General Comment:I love this song. I got a bit of meaning from it when I went to my friends' high school graduation last night. Having graduated a few years back myself, I could both see them through my own experience and through the eyes of parents, teachers, and guardians. As I watched them, realizing it may be the last time I'll ever see them all together, I wondered if I'd done all I could to ensure their "deliverance from everything they should not do" even though life is "so unpredictable," and knowing the ones I was there for will be scattered in different states next year, I have done all that I can. Try it in this light. It gives the song much more meaning than thinking it's about him being gay.

General Comment:Apparently it is about his first concert, hence being blinded by the lights and smiles.....but then, the rest of the lines don't seem to make sense wih that. So it could be about his career, speeding up too fast for him to comprehend?
I really don't know, just putting crappy ideas and thoughts out there.

General Comment:I kinda agree and disagree from the comments before me. As it was stated in the 3rd comment, teddy said he wrote this after he won battle of the bands. It does make sense cause he was, "Blinded by the lights I saw reflecting in their eyes It blinded me from the sea of everybody's smiles" which talks about being on stage and you really can't see too much with the light in your face. A if it was one of your first preformances on a real stage that is something you remember. Or at least that was how it was when I was first on stage. Then i think the rest of the song could just be about pushing too far and now he has to make up for his mistakes. But that could also go along the lines of losing his virginity.

It is another fave of mine.

And is it just me but when I first listened to the song, the begining up to the secound line sound like another song from another artist like a Dashboard Confessional song.

General Comment:I love this song! To me, it's pretty obvious that it's talking about virginity and doing something you regret. He wasn't listening to the warnings people gave him, and so now he's left to reel in the slack and deal with the consequences.
He's trying to let other people know that they can do what they want, but he's going to be true to what he believes in now, and not make the same mistakes again.
I don't know, this song just makes me feel good. I'm not sure exactly why. And Teddy Geiger isn't gay. You don't know what the heck you're talking about.
P.S.: It's "the moments that fall flat", not "the moments that will pass." Just FYI.
