He's been trying with limited success
To get this girl to let him get into her pants
But every time he thinks he's getting close
She threatens death before he gets a chance
And that's the way it is in Minnesota
And that's the way it is in Oklahoma
That's the way it's been since protozoa
First climbed onto the shores of California
And she's been trying with limited success
To get him to turn out the lights and dance
Cause like any girl all she really wants
That fickle little bitch romance
That fickle little bitch romance
And that is why a girl is called a tease
And that is why a guy is called a sleaze
And that's why god made escort agencies
One life to live and mace and GHB
And that's the way it is in Minnesota
And that's the way it is in Oklahoma
That's the way since the animals and Noah
First climbed onto the shores of California
Must not be too kind
Stop thinking love is blind
Clench your fists yeah write
"She's just not my type"
Why all these conflicting specifications
Maybe to prevent overpopulation
All I know is that all around the nation
The girls are crying and the boys are masturbating
And that's the way it is in Minnesota
And that's the way it is in Oklahoma
That's the way Aristophanes and homer
Wrote the Iliad and Lysistrata (not in that order)
And that's the way it is in Minnesota
And that's the way it is in Oklahoma
That's the way it's been since protozoa
First climbed onto the shores of California

But the sarcasm factor counted in, along with traditional roles of a relationship.
This made more sense in my head, I think.
but do you really have to understand the lyrics and take it completely apart to like the song? I think not.
The lyrics are meant to be tongu-in-cheek and not taken seriously.
on another note, me and my boyfriend are the exact opposite of this
he's the one who wants the romance and "love-making"
I'm the one who is just horny haha
(This was the first time I'd even thought about it any other way...)
If you've ever seen the video, you'll see that Amanda is often hanging around with other girls, in more than just a friendly way...
"The girls are crying and the boys are masturbating" Sounds like her saying that guys don't want girls, they'd rather have themselves...
that's just a thought...
Although bravo for your knowledge of the Greek stories.
And...this is a rather straightforward song, I think. Highlighting the differences (though not literal) between men and women and what they expect from relationships, as well as how they view sex.
but i don't know if that's even the point. i don't really think amanda's saying women aren't interested in sex -- i think she's saying they play games. that they really want to turn off the lights and dance but that something is preventing them, whether it be just that they want to be a "tease" or there own morals (reminds me of the references to midwestern states) or societal bounds.
and when she says, "Why all these conflicting specifications?" it makes me think of all the games both sexes play. or at least that's how i relate to it. the games that prevent anyone from really getting what they want out of any relationship, let alone fucking.
but i think ultimately the point is here:
Must not be too kind
Stop thinking love is blind
Clench your fists, yeah, write:
"She's just not my type..."
ditch the crappy ones. dream for someone more level headed.
the thing that annoys me about this song though, is the endless rhyming. it seems more intense then her other songs. just kind of childish. it is a good catchy song though. ive had it stuck in my head all day.
