Heaven ablaze in our eyes
We're standing still in time
The blood on our hands is the wine
We offer as sacrifice

Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul

This endless mercy mile
We're crawling side by side
With hell freezing over in our eyes
Gods kneel before our crime

Come on lets show, them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don't let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
For your soul

Come on, and show them your love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul, my love
Rip out the wings of a butterfly
For your soul
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
Don't let go
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)
(Rip out the wings of a butterfly)

For your soul

Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly. The butterfly is symbolic of change, transformation. Life is change. Dark Light was the beginning of a very different sound for HIM. This song is for the fans. The relationship between the band and the fans... The music is changing, evolving. It happens. They realise that everybody may not like it, but the music is their passion and a true reflection of where they are at that place in time. They refuse to "sell out". That's beautiful.

General Comment:Oh, by the way, not quite finished. If it's true the ville doesn't worship anybody, then by definition he is a satanist. if you look back through history, the term "satanist" has always been used loosley to describe a pagan or athiest. So if you're talking about devil worshipping, the term you're looking for is luciferan.

General Comment:Love Metal and Dark Light couldn't sound any more different if they had been trying to make them sound like opposites. For starters, the one way to tell when a band really is not even trying is by just listening to the lyrics of the chorus, you will notice that in dark light, for most of the songs they just repeat the title of the track, with a couple other lyrics added in. And all of the songs in dark light are almost interchangeable, whereas in love metal, where i believe they were at the peak of their songwriting, the songs were much more diverse (not to mention longer). Just look at the first to tracks of love metal, Buried Alive by Love and The Funeral of Hearts, the first being lively, and upbeat, while the second is slow and almost entrancingly sorrowful. But in dark light, vampire heart and the song we're discussing sound like they are two parts of the same song! Anyway, if it helps any of you discussing the song, i heard that somewhere in the bible it refers to the catholic church as a butterfly.
P.S. if HIM aren't satanists, can someone please explain why they named their first CD greatest love songs vol. 666? I'm not saying they are, but it doesn't really add up.
P.P.S. I don't think HIM really stands for His Infernal Majesty, (I've even heard back when Hanson was popular they said it stood for Hanson Is Murder) I think its referring to how when we refer to god in text, we always write Him witha capital H, so they took it one step further and capitalized the whole thing.

General Comment:Pollyanne, I don't get it... They sound exactly the same to me in Dark Light as in Love Metal, just with a few touch ups. If you want a drastic change, listen to MY Chemical Romance's Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, and then their next album, which came out a year later, The Black Parade. That is frustratingly drastic, although I still like both CDs. Anyway, I think HIM is the same band they were in their garage in Finalnd, after their first album, after they came to America, and after they hit number one on American charts.

General Comment:Also, about their symbol, the heartagram, which some claim to be their way of shoving satanism down peoples' throats, is not actually for satanism. It signifies the contrast between good and evil, love and hate, life and death, darkness and light, even heaven and hell. Believe me, if the band wanted to shove satanism down their fans' throats, they would be direct. It has a greater impact with them being famous, and I should know; I've been stanist for a while. It wasn't my proudest period, but it's over, and I dropped those bands.

General Comment:Actually, I read that HIM went with His Infernal Majesty, because it sounded cool, but dropped it BECAUSE people thought they worshipped the devil. They went with HIM, but released one of their albums as HER for some legal purposes, something about another band, and then changed it back to HIM again.

The song, I also read somewhere, is about symbolism, as whoever said it had said. I think most of us can agree that butterflies are beautiful creatures because of all the magnificent patterns on their wings. To rip out the wings of a butterfly would be to destroy beauty. That's why when I have to say something truthful to someone and don't know how to put it nicely, I say, "Weel I don't mean to rip out the wings of a butterfly, but..." As for the rest of the song, I have no idea, but i like all of yours.

General Comment:I kind of agree with Jolly Bob, but then again, the whole CD? That's very deep. And cool! But, why do some people say that the band is no good? I like HIM and all of Dark Lights! They've always been a good band. (Personally, though, I like AFI more.) I can't seem to find Uneasy Listening, though. Anyone know where I could find a copy of it?
