I've seen your eyes as they fix on me
What is he doing
What on earth's the plan, has he got one
You better give me some pointers since you are the big rocket launcher and I'm just the shotgun

Well I ain't got no dollar signs in my eyes
That might be a surprise but it's true
I'm not like you and I don't want your advice or your praise or to move in the ways you do
And I never will

Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you're certain we'll fail

I've seen your eyes as they fix on me
Full of confusion
Your snarl is just so condescending
Try to explain that we're on to a win
If the fee we got in
Near recoups what we're spending

He said
I can't believe that you drove all that way
Well how much did they pay you, how much did they pay you?
You'd have been better to stay round our way
Thinking about things but not actually doing the things

Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you're certain we'll fail

Cause all you people are vampires
And all your stories are stale
And though you pretend to stand by us
I know you're certain we'll fail

All you people are vampires

Song Meaning:All you people are wrong. In an interview Alex Turner was asked what the meaning of this song was. He answered that it actually was written regarding the people of Sheffield (their home town) and their lack of support. When he was asked whether they were glad to be called vampires his rebuttal was that they wasn't very happy with the title but he stood by the lyrics.

Song Meaning:the bit where he sais "thinking bout things but not actually doing them things " is probably him thinking to stand for the band and say stop uing us for money but he knows if he does that they might stop their music

General Comment:isn't it about a discussin they're having with a record company?
'since you are the big rocket launcher and i'm just the shotgun' - here they're saying that they're just the ones who are making the music but that isn't as 'important' as the people who know how to get them onto the market. Then he goes on to explain that it isn't the money side of things that he's interested in ('well i ain't got no dollar signs in my eyes') and he's then saying he doesn't wanna do what the record company is telling him to do - 'i don't want your advice or your praise or to move in the ways you do', he isn't gonna do everything they are telling him in order to make some money ..

The chorus is saying that all they're interested in is making money, and like vampires, sucking the money and life out of the band before dropping them after they've exploited them as much as possible: 'and although you pretend to stand by us, i know you're certain we'll fail' Record companies are forever promising that they're always gonna have the bands interests at heart but once they've got their benefits out of it they know that the band won't be worth much more. It carries on the same theme really, like if 'if the fee you get in near recoups what we're spending' bringing in as much money as the record company are spending on publicity - money again.

And then 'He said I can't believe that you drove all that way. Well how much did they pay you, how much did they pay you? You'd have been better to stay round our way. Thinking about things but not actually doing the things' I think this is a converstaion they may have had with their manager, or someone of similar autority. They'regetting stick for going to far out places to perform gigs, and when they explain they aren't getting paid any extra for travelling the company aren't impressed. Here they're proving exactly that they aren't just in it for the mopney.

I've gone on a bit but this is one of my favourite songs and i thought i'd better get my point across lol!

General Comment:It's about how millions of people don't even like or feel passionate about what they're doing for a living.. but they keep doing it for the money and they encourage you to accept new job offers just for money.. there will always be that "boss" telling you what to do and you will listen to him and do the same to others because you think you have no choice and that's how the world works.. vampires! people who don't think straight they're just thirsty for more
