Accidents out on the highway to somewhere,
They tell us about when we're young,
Rescuers working to clean up the crashes
Before she can see what they've done ,
Nobody told her she'd lose in the first round,
The last fight was fixed from the start,
Names on her sidewalks they move through her body,
Like razors they cut through her heart
Like razors they cut through her heart

Hey let go of all you know,
You're flying away now
What have you got to lose
Say out loud these words I've found
I'll be there when you come down
I'll be waiting for you

Night life the highlife she just wants a good life
So someone remembers her too
But somewhere she heard there was someplace to go
When you die when you live like we do
Die when you live like we do

Hey let go of all you know,
I'm finding a way now
What have you got to lose
Say out loud these words I've found
I'll be there when you come down
I'll be waiting for you

Hey let go of all you know,
You're flying away now
What have you got to lose
Say out loud these words I've found
I'll be there when you come down
I'll be waiting for you

(Accidents out on the highway to somewhere
They tell us about when we're young,
Rescuers working to clean up the crashes
Before she can see what they've done ,
Nobody told her she'd lose in the first round,

Hey let go of all you know,
You're flying away now
What have you got to lose
Say out loud these words I've found
I'll be there when you come down
I'll be waiting for you

General Comment:To me, I think this song is about a girl who got caught up in "the nightlife," drugs being the main storyline... "I'll be there when you come down, I'll be waiting for you" I think refers to the person singing, and that he will be there when she beats her addictions finally. he's asking her to repeat it so that she will try to do so sooner. It speaks to me because my girlfriend is an addict, to many things, and she is having a rough time trying to stay sober, especially with me not near her at this time. It's difficult for her to comprehend the fact that she could be losing me, slowly, if she goes back out on whatever drugs she tries to get in her home state, where she still has connections and is currently on vacation to. This is the only time I've ever threatened to leave, and I did so simply so that she will stay clean. I'm lost on where or why "Holly Wood" started getting into drugs, but in any case it helps me to let my girl know that I'll still be here when she finally decides that staying clean is worth the struggle it brings.

General Comment:This song is about a girl who is severely emotionally damaged in the early stages of her life, maybe by a bad relationship, or abuse. "Like razors they cut through her heart" words probably...

"Clean up the crashes before she can see what they've done."
She didn't know what damage had been done, until after the fact.

    "You're flying away now"
She has decided to "fly away" from the people who care about her because she is afraid of being hurt again, and shuts everyone out of her life.

    "What are you gonna lose?"
The boy obviously does not understand why she is shutting him out of her life when he only cares about her.

"I'll be there when you come down, I'll be waiting for you."
He cares about her a lot, and will be waiting for her when she "comes down" or decides to let people back into her life.

"Somewhere she heard there was someplace to go, when you die when you live like we do."
This could be interpreted in a number of ways, but the way I think its meant is that the place you go to is hell. And someone continually told her that she was going to hell for living the way she has been living, or something to that effect.

This is my interpretation of the song, idk if its right or not, but the first time I heard this song, this was the first thing that popped into my head. Because this exact same thing happened to me, where i fall in love with a girl, but shes been in so many bad relationships that she's just given up, and she shuts me out of her life. And it's so sad it deserves to have a song written about it.

Song Meaning:So I figure both "somewhere they tell us about when we're young" and "someplace to go when you die when you live like we do" refer to hell (which we all know there's a highway to). It makes the song more interesting when you read the lyrics like this, anyway.

General Comment:A lot of Lights & Sounds was essentially therapy for the band. In Back Home, the last song on Ocean Avenue, they touched on missing Florida but being hopeful about California living. Lights & Sounds is about their frustration with living in LA and Holly Wood is LA personified. To express their frustration, they killed her off at the end.

My Interpretation:There's a girl trying to get big in Hollywood (the "names on her sidewalk" is a nice touch).

"Accidents out on the highway to somewhere,
they tell us about when we're young"
Represents people failing to make it to stardom; when she was young people told her she could be a famous actress.
And later she says she just wants a good life and to be remembered.

General Comment:I think the song simply tells the story of someone (not necessarily a girl) searching for a better life but once he/she gets there, it's not what they thought it would be.

Great way to end the album. I really wish Paper Walls was on this level of greatness. These lyrics are deep and have meaning but they were really dumbed down for Paper Walls.

General Comment:I'm not sure, but the part where goes accidents out on the highway to somewhere, i think could refer to cheating of some kind because it later on says rescuers working to clean up the crashes
before she can see what they’ve done

    i'm not sure lol

General Comment:i just bought the cd, and ill admit, i was pretty disappointed with it. none of the songs really spoke to me, and i thought it was a waste of money. i almost didnt reach this last song, but im glad i stayed with it. this song is easily the best song on the album, and it was the only one i really enjoyed, aside from lights and sounds
