Lyrics for Echo as interpreted by thatgirlnamedbiz

Echo Lyrics
You are the lighthouse, the seamark
The tempests created this tide
I'm pulled to the black silver ocean
Where the current and the heavens collide

You are the brick
I am so unpredictable
Led by the current away
Your solid stage is so necessary to save
All those who stray

You are the navigator who never could lead
We were lost in the silver sea
I was the ship who was too proud to ever sink

I am your thought but the water is amnesia
My name is on the tip of your tongue
My image is slipping
But your memory is gripping it
This is my breath in your lungs

You are the navigator who never could lead
We were lost in the silver sea
I was the ship who was too proud to ever sink

Echo, my voice is an echo
Of places I don't know
And stories I've been told
Echo, we all are connected
A lighthouse, a voyage
For history's sake
Would you please take notice? (x4)

This song reminds me of my mother and how we butt heads all the time. I heard this after I ran away from home and I cried so hard because what we had had all been destroyed. :-(

this song reminds me of being a soldier at war...i.e. in Iraq. I know you guys are all gonna get mad at me for saying this. haha. dont, i'm just sayin what it reminds me of.

"you" in this song could be the U.S./Bush. and "for history's sake would you please take notice"

I prefer the more upbeat part of the song, because the beginning [your all gunna hate me for this] sounds exactly like You Are The Moon.

It reminds me of my relationship with my mother too. She's always the solid, stedy one, and I'm the wild child.

Also reminds me of Endless Sunshine on the Spotless Mind...

and I doo see some lines that could reference Bush....

Ah, damn, I just don't know where I'm going with this song.

I do love this song.

This song ROCKS!!! i think it's about someone who feels that they are being forgot or just ignored. like when you go into highschool, u lose a lot of ur best friends from elementary. maybe this person feels like she's losing her best friend and is therefore, forgotten. she's only an echo. only a memory in her friend's mind that is being forgotten as they move farther apart.

Everytime I hear this song, it makes me so sad just because I think of all the people I get in a fight with and eventually lose contact with them. That is what the song is about: How people get in fights and never make up with each other. It's so sad...:(

it's about her boyfriend being the only person who can hold her down when she's being unpredictable and can put up with her better than anyone.

"My image is slipping
oh, your memory is gripping it
this is my breath in your lungs "

that part is telling about how he is "swept away by her current" and she has to try to break her own ways to be the strong one and save him.

its very metaphoric and can get kind of confusing at times, but this is my favorite song by this band.

Beautiful song, one of my all time favorites from my favorite band. I have personal feeling with this song so I get a sort of different meaning from it:
To me it is about a girl singing about a guy who loved her but couldn't be there for her for real and had to leave, and he shouldn't have lead her on, but he did it because he loved her and wanted to hold on to her as long as he could. If she had broken down and told him that she saw he was hurting she could have saved him but she didn't think she could because he was a rock and she was weak and needed an anchor

At the end (the part that made most people sad) made me really happy. The girls realizes its ok becuase everyone is connected and in a way he is still a part of her

this song is amazing!

i think is about a relationship between a guy and a girl. she is saying how he is everything to her (ex. lighthouse - safe haven, brick - keeps her steady)
but they dont really mix. he tries to help lead their relationship but he never could get it right but she was too stubborn/ in love/ eager to let the relationship work that she wouldnt let go of him. and they are growing apart but their love keeps them holding on (my image is slipping oh your memory is gripping it)

and the end (echo part) is about how everyone has similar problems and she isnt the only one, her telling her story is just an echo of everyone elses journey in life

i agree that the start part is about a relationship.
but i love the more upbeat part at the end. its fantastic!
it really intrigues me, as so many of thier songs do. they could be about anything.
i think that last part might have a more global message. maybe about how the world seems ot be ending, how we are destroying it.
i dont know, thats just my thoughts....

It feels like there's two people that are....losing each other, but the "you" in the song is the one that holds her down, even if he forgets her. Maybe it has something to do with the Greek myth of Echo, a nymph who (basically) fell in love with a man who was in love with his own reflection and didn't notice her, hence the "for history's sake would you please take notice."
Either way, it's a beautiful song.

I relate to this song in a selfish way, but I think this might be where she's coming from. I see it as a girl in a relationship letting the guy know all he is worth to her, and that without his steadiness, nothing would've worked and that she's thankful for all of the time that he's had to put up with her. She knows that he still remembers what he truly loved about her in the beginning. It's a beautiful song and might be my favorite Hush Sound song, other than You are the Moon.

to me this ong rings of alzheimers. Someone they love was once strong, and stable. However now they can't quite remember things, they will get deja vu (or an "echo") when they see people they once lved and things they once did but they won't quite know why...

It's about some sort of relationship for sure, not necessarily a romantic one, but it involves people that are basically different but they gave it a try anyway and it didnt quite work but they care for each other just the same. However, I dont think the entire song is about that, the exemplification of a relationship ends up leading to a more general statement, in the end of the song where it changes the beat. So they start specific to convey a message at the end that serves everyone, that is that everybody is connected and that we shouldnt take for granted the effect we can have on each other and how it can help or not getting to the lighthouse which would be a place we feel safe or have sel-knowledge.
PS: Not on drugs, I swear :)

I'm Just a 16 year old girl so what do I know. But this song to me is kinda like about God in a way (ie. The Lighthouse. The Rock) But then again its about so much more. BUT like I said I don't know anything so just ignore me.

Echo, my voice is an echo
of places I don’t know
and stories I’ve been told
Echos. We all are connected
a lighthouse a voyage
for history’s sake,
would you please take notice?

i think this means that her voice is being used as basically her excistance, and it's an echo of every little thing that has happened before her. it says to take notice so u can see that if we aren't careful, we can screw up our world because it depends on every little thing we do. i have no idea what the first part is about though
