He’s been waiting around the weekend
Figuring which club to sneak in
Fancy drinks and fifty-dollar cover charge
Lately it’s been a big hassle
Heineken and New Castle
To make sure he’s fitting in and living large
Disregard the lies that he will tell
and what he’s probably like
Its not hard his charm is gonna
Get him through the night
CHORUS
If he wants to rock he rocks
If he wants to roll he rolls
He can roll with the punches
Long as he feels like he’s in control
If he wants to stay he stays
If he wants to go he goes
He doesn’t care how he gets there
Long as he gets somewhere he knows
See her heavy make up and cut t-shirt
Every girl out wants to be her
But they look the same already why adjust
Reading the magazine secrets
Forgetting the topical regrets
If she comes home all alone the nights a bust
It’s a must the swivel in her hips
And the look she gives
It’s all her trust if only in the morning
She knew where she lived
CHORUS
And in a wink they’re on the brink
From drink to drink and at the bar
With cash to blow
From shot to shot it’s getting hot
Advance the plot to see how far
It’s gonna go
All depends so ditch the friends
And grab a cab
Another chance for cheap romance
Doesn’t count cause the room is spinning
Nothing to lose tonight they both are winning
And they fall in love as they fall in bed
CHORUS
Figuring which club to sneak in
Fancy drinks and fifty-dollar cover charge
Lately it’s been a big hassle
Heineken and New Castle
To make sure he’s fitting in and living large
Disregard the lies that he will tell

I think it's ironic that the song culminates with the two of them having sex. Both of them are trying to get with someone who is in the crowd they want to be in and instead they "fall in bed" with someone who feels just as much like an outsider. I can't tell if it's a sweet romantic act that they've discovered someone just like themselves to be with or if it's tragically flawed since they'll just waste the opportunity on "cheap romance".
One thing gets me. I know it's a strech but could it be possible that the two people in this song are virgins? The line "nothing to lose cause they both are winning" makes me think of a refrence to losing their virginity, and the idea would fit with the theme of them feeling like outsiders and trying some feeble attempt to be like everybody else.
I don't think the love that Hutchinson describes is superficial. Just the new type of love that youth all over the world, thanks to the media and technology, the new love that we are all experiencing. The love of; adrenaline pumping clubs, the desperate need for attention, the satisfaction of being noticed and the reminiscent smile of that one moment.
I don't like this type of love, and i believe in something more, however i just love that Hutchinson can pin point that feeling of the new worlds "love".
But anyways, I just love this song in general..It's very catchy.
And Eric Hutchinson has a great, melodic voice! :)
That it's focused on the general male and female, they aren't shallow, or prostitutes. It's about being 21+ ages being out at the bar. Now-a-days if you've ever been out hanging out at a club or closest bar with friends. Going out for some fun, sometimes you do meet someone and hit it off, and sometimes you don't. Some guy's go out with a "charm" to deal with the "hassle" of buying "heineken and new castle" (trying to hook up with a girl) and some girls can go out with "heavy make-up and cut t-shirt (or noodle strap)" while "every girl out wants to be her" but "they all look the same so why adjust?" to the guy.
It just so happens that this night (as well as could be any other night with anybody general) that these two people "falling in love" while "falling in bed" because it is an unknown "cheap romance". They also don't know if it will turn into something like a relationship "advance the plot" but it's a risk that the general takes but it's something that goes too fast to find out.
It's pretty clear Hutchinson is portraying them as shallow, describing the guy as a conformist and snake ('Disregard the lies that he will tell and what he's probably like' and 'his charm will get him through the night'), and the girl equally conforming ('every girl out wants to be her but they look the same already'). They're both out for sex.
One thing people miss is he's pointing out the superficiality of it all; "cheap romance", the humor of 'love' existing amidst the drunken stupor ('doesn't count b/c the room is spinning'), and the idea of two complete strangers, both pretending to be people they're not, living up what amounts to be empty 'rock and roll' weekend facades.
I definitely find there is a level of depth to this catchy tune.
and maybe if people who wanted sex went after that rather than power we'd all be a lot better off.
Not much depth or philosophizing in this song, but fun to listen to.
For just a night you are allowed to be anyone you want to be and do anything you want to.
I think this is relaxed and fun, I love it!
