Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why so many, why? Why so many, why so many, why? Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why?

Manny don't need no comforting
He don't ask of the world to bring him up
Ain't gonna see him waitin' on waitin' on waitin' on the day
Got him a chair in '73
It was his only option
So Manny agreed
Same chair he has today since they threw the cane away
And Manny wasn't doing nothing
He just doing his own thing
You know it getting pretty cold out by the jub jub swing

Oh this friend today
Right me up
Oh this friend today
Right me up
Oh this friend today
Right me up
Oh this friend today
Right me up
I'm not so weak

Manny gonna go where the rabble go
He gonna roll down the world and he bring me up
Ain't going to see him giving into the others way
Cause they may beat us in search but our fall is unstained
You know he says it wont be long till we are up again
Having another swing
And Manny wasn't doing nothing
He just doing his own thing
Yah know it gettin' pretty cold but he the one who bring

Oh this friend today
Right me up
Oh this friend today
Right me up
No, I'm not so weak
Oh this friend today
Right me up
Oh this friend today
Right me up
I'm not so weak

'Cause the bottles not empty
'Cause your voices are all there
My life will fight in my body for air
'Cause the bottle's not empty
'Cause your voices are all there
My life will fight in my body for air

Oh this friend today
Right me up
Oh this friend today
Right me up
And oh this friend today
Right me up
And oh this friend today
Right me up
I'm not so
And oh this friend today
Right me up
Oh this friend today
Right me up
No, I'm not so weak
Oh this friend today
Right me up
Oh this friend today
Right me up
I'm not so weak

Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why so many why?
Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why so many why?
Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why so many why?
Why so many, why so many why? Why so many, why?

Manny we gonna get that A.M. dial just right
I'll hold that hanger up as long as the Sox put up a fight

General Comment:to me, this song is about perservering when things arent in your favor. although manny is a person, he is also a theme used to tell people to stay positive. manny had to get in a chair "back in 73" but hes still doing his own thing. manny brings chad and the band up when theyre upset, they see manny, who is in a much worse state then whatever they are in, and he "rights them up", in other words- makes them positive and hopeful of a better future. "manny go where the rabble go" is meaning that manny goes with the flow, he makes the best of wherever he finds himself. "aint going to see him giving into the others way" is that when people see manny's state and they feel sorry for him he wont allow it, hes not going to let them change how he feels about himself and how he can still enjoy his life more then they can because they see only the negatives when they look at him. manny can see the positives in any situation, especially his own. "im not so weak" goes along with this too. "mannys doing his own thing" is that manny is being manny, a red sox reference, yes, but also that in this world where people might look down on manny for being disabled and try to feel bad for him but hes just doing his own thing in the world keeping people up and living his own life despite his disabilities. "the bottles not empty" i took as a reference to the famous "is the glass half empty or half full" question. manny doesnt see his glass as empty, he sees the positives and sees how to live life to its fullest potential and enjoy it despite his disabilities. "my life will fight in my body for air" is that manny and others like him's situation has to fight against the public who look down on them and see them as inferior in order to be viewed as equals- the "air" is equality. the "why so many why so many why" phrase repeating throughout the song is questioning why there are so many ignorant people in the world who cant look past manny's apparance and view him as a real person. the closing lines "Manny we gonna get that A.M. dial just right/I'll hold that hanger up as long as the Sox put up a fight" is just a simpler form of perserverence, getting the am dial right is trying to turn an old tv on the right setting with the antennaes bended just the right way in order to view a picture clearly without static. and the red sox are a classic example of perserverence, not winning the world series for 80ish years but kept coming back and trying and then winning it, chad will keep holding the hanger, keep trying for that picture, until it works. i get the vibe at the end of the song that chad and manny are hanging out, which is a model of acceptance to people who are different

It's about a close friend of the band named Manny Furtado who has a physical disability. My assumption is that the last line about the Sox might mean that Manny was a big Red Sox fan. This would make since, because the band's originally from Boston.

General Comment:If you go through and read ALL the comments the answer is here but scattered so I'll attempt to consolidate it...

This is about a Disabled guy named Manny who has high enough spirits to 'right' Chad's attitude about life.

You get caught up in your B.S. and you start acting like a victim of your circumstances until you meet someone like Manny who really is a victim but doesn't think of it that way.

The last line is about one of the smaller things in life, like listening to a ball game with pals, that the singer learns to appreciate from being in the presence of Manny.

It has nothing to do with Manny Ramirez.
