And this song practically makes me cry every time I hear it. :')
Maybe the "seaside" is where they fell in love. He is still in love with her. He wants to go back and experience that again and/or start over with her on the "seaside". He asks her if she wants to go. Maybe they are tired of the "slight of hand" situation. But, maybe that was their only option for expressing their feelings for each other for awhile. That's why he sings that he is just trying to love her, anyway that he can. Maybe it is difficult for them both when they are far apart. Because obviously at one point they were very close.
I hear fragility and weariness in his voice. I love the singer for this. They were in love before and he is missing her. No matter the outcome, it sounds to me like they really just need to SEE each other, to feel better.
I think they need to go back to the see-side.
But, I have also learned that it is still beautiful.
Maybe I can't be with the one I am supposed to be with for the rest of my life.....
And this realization for me has been BRUTAL.
But, maybe I am supposed to live my life and think more about everyone else in it and forget about myself....
I dunno......
I am just doing the best that I can now.
I'll always love the man who brought this song into my life, but I feel like I am not in control of my own life.
Even though I will always love him and wish things could be soooooo different.

I think the third verse expressing his angst about a girl/relationship is what is really on his mind, seemingly triggered by memories of the seaside. There is a certain rawness and suddenness to the third verse, almost as though he hadn't meant to say it but it slipped out anyway.
