Lyrics for Red Sam as interpreted by QBlue_12

Red Sam Lyrics
Here I stand
Empty hands
Wishing my wrists were bleeding
To stop the pain from the beatings

There you stood
Holding me
Waiting for me to notice you

But who are you
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Saving my life

The warmth of your embrace
Melts my frostbitten spirit
You speak the truth and I hear it
The words are I love you
And I have to believe in you

But who are you
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Saving my life

My hands are open
And you are filling them
Hands in the air
In the air, in the air, in the air

And I worship
And I worship
And I worship
And I worship

You are the truth (you are the truth)
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Saving my life

this song is defiently about her connection with God, and how when he says "he loves her" she has to believe it because he is the truth through all the lies.
((even while wishing she had a set of bloody wrists, he still calls out to her, and he IS the truth))

what an amazing song!

obviously this song is about God and her relationship with him.

"There you stood
Holding me
Waiting for me to notice you"
I think it means that while she was holding all of this pain in and couldn't find an alternative-- possibly, she concidered cutting herself as another way to get her mind off of a form of pain, however God is showing her the truth and the light. Instead of focusing on her pain, she's allowing God to take her in and bring her up.

Here's what I think..i'm going very indepth even tho i could sum it up in a nut shell. I just adore this song

"Here I stand
Empty hands
Wishing my wrists were bleeding
To stop the pain from the beatings"

She was abused by her mother and very depressed and feels like she has nothing (she's without God at this point.) She wants to kill herself to stop the pain.

"There you stood
Holding me
Waiting for me to notice you

But who are you
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Saving my life"

She realises that God was there waiting for her to notice Him so He can stop the pain. She realises that He's the truth saving her from killing herself.

"The warmth of your embrace
Melts my frostbitten spirit
You speak the truth and I hear it
The words are I love you
And I have to believe in you"

She starts believing in God and that He loves her and that feels good to her.

"My hands are open
And you are filling them
Hands in the air
In the air, in the air, in the air

And I worship
And I worship
And I worship
And I worship"

She worships God now and lets Him in her life and now fills her previously empty hands and makes them full

I have a question. I completely agree with you guys in saying the song's about God, but why is it called "Red Sam"?
Any way you look at it this is a truly inspirational and beautiful song. I love Flyleaf!!!

The Song "Red Sam" comes from two of the band member's names. Its from Jared Hartmann (Guitar), and Sameer Bhattacharya (Guitar). Its the last part of Jared's name, and the first of Sameers. If you want more, check out: http://www.flyleafonline.com/.
This song to me is special. Why is because it makes me realize I am not the only one, that someone is always there for me when I feel horrible.

The very first time I heard this song, my first impression was "eww, does it sound so discordant?" Then she started singing, and I listened to the words, and repeated the song, and repeated it again, and repeated it again, and then I figured it out. The initial discord (the out-of-tune sound the guitars have at the beginning) is incorperated into the meaning of the song. The song begins in discord because her life was in discord, but slowly grows more confident and clear as it progresses, until eventually she is proclaiming "And I worship" like it's a battlecry.

Overall, one of my favorite songs.

This song is very powerful yet painful. This is where Lacey had her hardships in life, and maybe cut herself, and then she felt that god reached out to her and helped her alot, and she strongly believes

I love this song. o_o
I knew it had something to do with God, but, eh, I'm not overly religious... so... didn't really click in my head.
This song so reminds me of the relationship between two of my fanfiction characters... (random, yes, but seriously. It fits perfectly)

I agree with FlyleafFan5191's view. This song is about Lacey turning from being confused and suicidle and finding that the truth lies within God. God embraced her when she was in pain and now she raises her arms to worship and embrace him.

"Wishing my wrists were bleeding
To stop the pain from the beatings"
i see rockerchicks point....but i took beatings as her heart beating (being alive is painful) and
"Wishing my wrists were bleeding"
as she wishes she had slit her wrists in suicide, not just as cutting. i dont know though, it can definitely be taken both ways.
love the song but cant honesttly say i relate to any of it but the beginning...i definitely relate to wishing i had guts enough to slit my wrists enough to finish it...but i dont want gods help like the rest of the song is talking about.

First of all let me say I LOVE this song! So here's what I picture when I hear it:

"Here I stand
Empty hands"
--She had no one there for her to hold her hand when she needed help

"Wishing my wrists were bleeding
To stop the pain from the beatings"
--She was abused, and wanted to take away the pain she couldn't control (her beatings) by cutting her own wrists

"There you stood
Holding me
Waiting for me to notice you"
--God was there the whole time, loving her, and just trying to get her to notice that he was holding onto her and wouldn't abandon her like her abusive parent

"But who are you
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Outscreaming these lies
You are the truth (you are the truth)
Saving my life"
--When she first started her relationship with God, she didn't know who He was or how much He loved her, and then she realized that He is the truth and the light, and He spoke through all the lies she told herself that she wasn't good enough, or had no reason to live. Her life was broken, and she wanted to end it, but God came along and saved her

"The warmth of your embrace
Melts my frostbitten spirit
You speak the truth and I hear it
The words are I love you
And I have to believe in you"
--This is when she starts becoming closer to God and all of her bitterness is gone. She nows hears His voice all around her, and knows that there's no way He isn't real.

"My hands are open
And you are filling them
Hands in the air
In the air, in the air, in the air

And I worship
And I worship
And I worship
And I worship"
--She is now raising her hands and praising and worshiping God. She now has a hand to hold, and that's God's. He filled her hands, and her life, and now she's worshiping Him because He saved her life and turned it around

i thought this was about her with a boy, and how he saved her, and got her away from her dysfunctional home, and kept her from cutting, until i saw the worship part.so it's about her & god.

The song is about how she once thought that taking her own life until the day she got to know God which is what saved her life and gave her hope for the future.

basically to me its about someone at the end of their rope, so to speak, they dont know God && just want to end it all... then they realize that God is there && when they realize it they turn to him... he is the truth... he is salvation =)

i think its definitely about how God saved her, but i think when it says "Wishing my wrists were bleeding To stop the pain from the beatings" it means how she wishes it was a physical hurt rather than an emotional.

This song is most definetly about finding God. I totally agree with FlyleafFan5191. She was empty without Him and now she is saved and is now full! :)
