Lyrics for Cassie as interpreted by QBlue_12

Cassie Lyrics
The question asked in order
To save her life or take it
The answer no to avoid death
The answer yes would make it

Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
Say yes to pull the trigger
Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
And Cassie pulled the trigger

All heads are bowed in silence
To remember her last sentence
She answered him knowing what would happen
Her last words still hanging in the air
In the air

Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
Say yes to pull the trigger
Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
And Cassie pulled the trigger

How many will die
I will die
I, I will say yes

Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
Say yes to pull the trigger
Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
And Cassie pulled the trigger
Do you believe in God
Do you believe in God
Do you believe in God
And I will pull the trigger

This song is about Columbine and how a girl named Cassie Bernall was asked "Do you believe in God?" before Eric Harris killed her. She was named as a martyr because of it. The lead singer of Flyleaf (Lacey Mosely) is saying that we should all follow Cassie's example and stand up for our beliefs even at the risk of death.

it's pretty much the columbine story mentioned above. and also the most roundabout way of ever saying "i beleive in God". if you say yes, the trigger will be pulled, she's saying she'd pull the trigger....meaning she said yes, she beleives...impressive

Flyleaf is an awesome band, and reading the lyrics to their songs more carefully only reinforces that. This is a great song, from a great (yet underrated and somewhat unknown) band.

Should any of you be interested in an excellent behind the scenes look at Columbine I suggest you read, "No Easy Answers: The Truth behind death at Columbine" Written by Brooks Brown who was best friends with Dylan and friends with Eric.

This song is probably my favorite off the cd. The columbine theory seems pretty accurate

The song is about Cassie, yes. But it has been proven that it was not Cassie who answered the fated question.
The REAL one who answered such question was Racheal Scott.
While this is a popular myth, and some still believe it's true, it's not.
But Cassie did pull her own trigger. You just gotta look deep enough to find out how.

In the version of this song i have
it says "and racheal pulled the trigger"
at the end.

I love flyleaf
and this is a super good song.
To know that people out there still think about Columbine and how horrible that was is good.
I from Colorado, so this song kinda hit home.

It's so awesome that Flyleaf can write songs like this; it has so much meaning. I'm by no means Christian but I still support Racheal/Cassie (whoevers!) bold reply, and this song still makes me want to cry.

it means the same thing as everyone else says it does, Cassie Bernall from Columbine. i have the book "She Said Yes", i've read it 3 x's its that good. i don't know where everyone gets the rachael theory, i've never heard of it, but it doesn't matter. Flyleaf is a very awsome band, i bought the CD just yesterday and i only heard the song "Im so sick" before i bought it, great band and CD

Actually, neither Cassie Bernall nor Rachel Scott was asked if they believed in God. Rachel was shot in the back and in the head outside. She never talked to the shooters during the ordeal. And Cassie Bernall was just really unlucky. Harris, one of the shooters, banged on the top of the table she was under, bent down, said "peek-a-boo" and shot her in the head. There were no questions about God between her and her killer. And that has been verified by the girl that was actually sitting right next to her when she died.

But, there was one person that was asked if they believed in God, her name was Valeen Schnurr. She was saying “oh god” out loud, and Klebold asked her is she believed in God. She said yes, then no, then yes. He asked her why, she said because that’s what her family believed in (or something along those lines). He spared her life. She survived the massacre, but she was injured.

Nobody at Columbine was killed for being a Christian.

Despite all that, I still like this song. It’s strong message. Even if Cassie didn’t really die for something she believed in, the idea of someone doing that is very noble.

Captain Dorkstar, you're taking it too out of context. They don't mean that she literally pulled the trigger. They're just saying that she made the decision that ended her life.
As for the whole Rachel Scott controversy, I have heard that it was her that said yes. But it's not about how correct the song is, it's about the message it brings.

at first i thought it was about a girl and that someone asked her if she belived in god and that if she said yes she would die so its pretty much almost right because apparently the clombine story is the real one because well its the real deal

Actually, there is a book out about this. Its called She said yes. It tells about CASSIE'S life and how she started off as a typical teenager who struggles with depression and self-loathing. Through her youth group she found peace and a purpose in life. And it was CASSIE who said yes when asked if she believed in god. I don't think there would have been a published book out about this if it was just some made up story.

This song i know for a fact because of an interview, is about a girl Cassie who was asked the question do you believe in God, and she said yes, the older version is about a girl named Rachel to who was asked if she believed in God and she said yes, she was shot and didn't die, he asked her again, do you believe in God? and she said yes and then died the second time. if anyoone wants the link to the interview i'll give it to you. :)

You are so very right. I'm glad someone else picked up on that, for anyone who doubts this. read the book "She Said Yes"

columbine.....the modern-day holocost. it shined a light in a lot of dark rooms. and yet nobody learned, they did it because they were the outcasts. they didn't fit in, they were picked on and prodded like animals. what they did isn't what you might call "good", but it did show something, we dont accept differentiality. we needed to learn, those two were the professors in the matter. you can agree or disagree with this...in the end it might not really matter. but i feel it's true -nemo-

In fact, this song is rooted in a fact recorded by one out of god knows how many people. the fact is that ONE person heard this exchange, do you believe in god->no-> bam... everyone else in the library didn't hear it.

Furthermore, they asked another girl if she believed in god, she said yes, they asked why, she told them something about family, and they laughed and walked off, not a shot fired.

So other events during columbine and several first hand accounts lead to this not happening. It is my personal belief that everyone likes being the vistem, because it gives them a sense of "I am not like everyone else.. I am fighting a battle"- you see it everywhere. Hell, at my cfhurch, a person was talking about how the columbine kids shot up an entire cafeteria of believers.

its a good song though. Just based on skewed facts.

source: wikipedia.org... the best account i have ever seen of columbine. tell me if you have a more detailed article on it.

and she said no columbine was a school shooting.

and i said ...yeah. and they asked that girl if she believed in god and she said yes.. that's what that book was about...

and she was like "whatever"

heh.

okay for all you stupid people that think that columbine was a theory or fake or whatever else. it wasnt. it was totally real and it was a tragic thing. The song Cassie was about Cassie Bernall who was infact shot because she believed in god. not because eric played peek a boo. That happend to a kid named issah shoels. A friend of mine was actually baby sat by Cassie when he was younger. all you people that think you know all about columbine need to get the facts before you go talking about it. i knew people from columbine that were shot that day. it was sad. and it's even more sad that eric and dylan had to do something like that because at that time no one was accepting of them. it's a great song by flyleaf and byfar one of my favorites.

Its a really great song, and everyone's pretty much right about it being the Columbine massacre, though I have no idea where people are getting all the theories of it not being real and Cassie not being asked, it doesn't really matter in relation to the song anyway, because the meaning of the song is to stand up for what you believe in no matter what, to have conviction in yourself and your faith.
