And then the following line "A year goes by, and I can't talk about it" Proves that she remained incredibly heart broken for a long time.

"All these twisted thoughts I see, Jesus fell inbetween" To me means she was contemplating suicide to escape the heart break, but instead she found Jesus. Which she claims is actually how she became converted into a christian, because she was going to commit suicide.

I could be totally wrong and not making any sense to anyone, but this is how I see the song.

wow, I think a lot of these explanations make more sense than what I thought at first. When I first heard this song, I thought it was talking about how the person feels a year after the person she was in love with died. Now I'm thinking I was probably wrong, but since a song can mean something different depending on how you look at it, I guess that's ok. Here's what I thought it was saying:

While I agree with both sides of the debate, that it is a love song and a Christian song, I have to speak my piece.

Not all songs from Christian rock bands are about God. ALL songs are OPEN to the listeners interpretation. I feel the same way about this issue when it comes to Skillet who originated as a Christian rock band, but are also viewed as a modern rock band as well.

I feel this song is good for either side of the argument, but personally I love it as a love song because its easier for me to relate. This is the reason for most artists releasing the music they do, so their fans can relate in whatever way possible.

Is what I can relate to the most. I've felt strongly about a guy for some time now and I had to hide the pain I've felt for so long by smiling and acting like everything was okay (I can also relate to "Tear Drops On My Guitar" because of this). That went on for about a year until I finally did tell him. Every chance I wanted to tell him how I felt it wasn't the best chance to or the timing was off. Every night I told him goodnight and went to bed around the same time he did; all I really ask of him is to remember me because he's been an important friend and person to me.

this song makes me so sad... it really speaks out to me.
i was in a a teenage relationship, and everybody told me that we were too young, and i didn't believe it... until i heard it from him. so when it says "we say to those who are in love, it can't be true cause' we're too young. i know that's true because, so long, i was so in love with you... so i thought." it reminds me of when he told me it wasn't going to work because we were too young... and sometimes if you know someone well enough and trust them enough, you WILL believe everything they say, hence the "so i thought" because it just completely changed my mindset. also, the line "And fight the tears With pretty smiles and lies about the times" i think everyone can relate too... i've never met anybody who hadn't at least once in their life wanted to cry and just decided to smile and lie about it. so i really like this song i think it's writen loosley enough that there could be a lot of interpretations to it, but that's mine.

I've always thought it was "chor[u]s romance says goodnight / close your eyes, and I'll close mine" - taking "chorus" to refer to the choruses of ancient greek plays that narrated and, to an extent, controlled the story onstage.

When I hear those lines, it makes me think of the overwhelming feeling that even though everyone and everything is telling you that the relationship is over, neither one is ready to give it up - "close your eyes and I'll close mine". The "chorus romance," then, is sort of this unstoppable, irresistible voice saying "hey, you guys have had your fun. it's over."

The references to Choris Romance (the band) are just as valid, and I respect them. I just like to look at songs on a more universal level, :).

I'm open to different interpretations...but I like to think this is her re-evaluation of love because of her enlightened relationship with God. "ignorance is bliss" -- she thought she was once in love. She goes on to say she's not faithless, just paranoid of getting lost. -- Fear is the opposite of trust, and until she learned to trust in God, she could never truly share that love with anyone else. Now maybe she is praying that together in the present ("between then and there") they can share that new love and trust; the bigger and better love that she has found in God which "exceeds all we can dream".

i found out that a. Choris Romance is a band and b. 'choris' is seperation in Greek, usually seperation from Christ.
i'm still not sure exactly what the lyrics mean. sometimes i wish artist would release some sort of thing defining their music.

this song is absolutely amazing. it brings me to tears every single time i listen to it. it hits so close to home for me. thinking that someone was your soulmate, but everyone doubted your love due to your age. "a year goes by" -time heals nothing. people can tell you over and over that time heals all wounds, but a year later the pain is still there. losing someone doesn't get any easier. "And fight the tears with pretty smiles and lies about the times" lying to everyone close to you, telling them you're okay when you're not even close. faking smiles and feeling empty inside. through all the pain, jesus is there to comfort and protect you

That is the beautiful thing about music! Lyrics can mean different things to different people! I agree that this song is about a break up and young love. But I listened to this song a few times today and it made me cry. It reminded me of my husband's upcoming deployment!

I think it's about how a bad break up made her realize the only person she really needs is god. who isn't even a person. The only thing she needs is god. Much better.

This is definitely a breakup song, but there's more to it than that. I agree with what most people have posted, but there are certain lines I interpret differently.

First off, since she says "your" thoughts, I take this to mean her ex-boyfriend's. To me, it sounds like this verse is about the past. The two of them would have conversations in which "twisted thoughts free flow" aka talk about taboo things people don't normally discuss. However, these conversations "show soul" as in showed who they really were without restraint and created memories that she's thinking about in this verse. The last two lines show that they were infatuated with each other and dreaded being interrupted. This entire verse shows the nature of their relationship. It sounds like she was shutting other people out and relying entirely on him, which is why the breakup was so painful.

This is pretty straightforward; she was told by her peers and others that she was too young to really be in love, but she didn't believe them. Now that it's over, she isn't sure whether or not it was true love. Her ideas are overly romanticized, and she doesn't understand how they could've broken up if they were ever truly in love. However, judging by the depth of her feelings and pain, she really was in love with him.

This is probably my favorite line. She truly believed she was in love with him and put a lot of faith into their relationship. Since it went under, she's second guessing her faith in other things as well, like God, but she doesn't want to be unsure about that. By saying she's paranoid of "getting lost" I think she means losing a part of herself. I was very much infatuated with my first love as well, and he and I were together for 2 years. In that time, I drifted away from my friends and he was the only person who really knew me by the end of our relationship. Considering how the first verse described their relationship, I think she's experiencing this same thing. She feels alone now that he isn't there and, more than anything, is terrified that she'll never experience that kind of relationship again and that that part of herself will forever cease to exist. The line "that I might lose" means something different. It would make more sense if you could add a word onto the end of this line, what is she afraid of losing? Herself could also be the answer here, but I think the best answer is her faith, hope, or will to live. After such a terrible breakup, she's in danger of falling into a depression she won't escape from. She's trying to prevent that by not losing those 3 listed things. She knows if she loses them, she may never be happy again. This line may even refer to suicide, which goes along with the idea that she doesn't want to lose the will to live. I remember people often saying something like "God promised he would never do anything to us we couldn't handle." I know it's unlikely she's thinking this exactly, but it goes along these lines. Suicide is considered by many denominations to be a sin, since its taking control of your life instead of leaving it in God's hands. By saying "I'm not faithless" could be read as she's so depressed, she almost wants to kill herself but knows that it would be a sin.

This verse is also pretty easily understood. She's realizing that the way things look on the surface isn't necessarily the way they are. She's putting on a front and pretending that she's happy, as much to fool herself as to fool others.

These two verses are what she wishes could happen now. The "you" is her ex-boyfriend. She wants the two of them to stop concentrating on how bad everything is and stop and remember how things used to be. She's hoping that by doing so, they'll realize that they want to give it another try. "Then and there" I think means "the beginning and the end" as in of their relationship. She wants them to remember the times they were happiest and remember the dreams they had of being together in the future so that they'll be able to talk to each other again. She wants them to find something worth trying for.

I have been a christian for a long time. However it is only recently that I have become saturated in Christ.

Desiring a godly relatioship i think is the prayer for many. Wanting Christ in the flesh. I am 42, and just found out about this band. Fully alive speaks volumes. As does this song, on her knees in prayer, with many thoughts running through her mind.

I have come to see this more and more, espectially with female artist desiring a godly relationship. It is so sweet to see that. Very few of us guys are what some have told me "over the top" emotional and too desire Jesus in the flesh, which would be ultimately a marriage.

The last verses of the song with Jesus in between, with our feelings and emotions being real. And "can't talk about it". Perhaps a relationship that is on the surface that isn't meant to go deeper.

I think someone mentioned before that this song is about lacey's marriage when she was only 18. Choris Romance was her ex-husband's band. So, this song is definitely about being young and in love. Or being young and thought you were in love when you actually weren't. Or ''about starting over when we feel like we can't, because we hurt too many people, or made too many mistakes'' - that's what Lacey says in the video before singing this song. It's not exactly what she says, but it's similar ;)

I do think this is about a failed relationship or some kind of disappointment and finding peace through God/Jesus in the end, but personally, this song reminds me of all the things I've had to overcome and how sometimes I still do want to sit and cry over them.

Ok; all of you had many good points of the song. In-which all i agree with from different perspectives. with this song i agree with many when i say that it is talking about waiting for 'the one' and having faith in God to put the two of you together. This song is fooo powerful and it reaches deep down into my soul and gives me hope of finding this person that God has so strategically places within my life somewhere. I believe this song speaks of someone who was previously in a relationship with a person she “loved,” but after it ended, she realized that she had been too young to really understand anything. for me, this song is all about impossible love and relates to a specific part in my life when i was in love with a guy, and he was in love with me. he is a devout christian, i am agnostic. he made a decision, as part of his faith, not to date anyone that was not christian. for months we were stuck in limbo, we were both in love but it could never go anywhere because of the religion barrier.

through everything, Jesus (representing christianity), as inspirational as he is (i believe Jesus was a great prophet, and had beautiful teachings and excellent morals, but was human only.) is the barrier between us and everything we want.
