the point sometimes Lyrics
get rid of the ocean
if you ever wanna see me again our shores are separated with or without a boat and you know that nothing lasts forever and depending on the weather I'm a changer and I know that if November had been deader if we'd hidden a bit better we'd be strangers and this breeze blew in with a glitch in the tide disguised as storm free begging you please to take a ride well soften your sails and take a ride open the wings and let her fly and I can't see the point sometimes you're a rock, I'm a gull might be okay to stay if you could hold me but you got no way to do so and you know that as the world rises possible perch shrinks in size and I'll take off and this breeze blew in with a glitch in the tide disguised as storm free begging you please to take a ride well soften your sails and take a ride open the wings and let her fly and you know that nothing lasts forever and depending on the weather I'm a changer I'm a changer I'm a changer I'm a changer

"Get rid of the ocean
If you ever wanna see me again
Our shores are separated
With or without a boat'"
>> He seems distant- there is no close bond between them. She can't continue the relationship unless the barriers are broken down.
"And I know that if November had been deader
If we'd hidden a bit better
We'd be strangers"
>> They never had a deep connection. This makes their relationship sound like a last resort rather than something that was always meant to be.
"You're a rock, I'm a gull
Might be okay to stay if you could hold me
But you got no way to do so"
>> He doesn't make her happy. There is no attraction to keep them together.
"And you know that nothing lasts forever
And depending on the weather
I'm a changer"
>> She's guided by her feelings. The relationship doesn't feel right so she's made the decision to move on. This guy she's with isn't providing her with the happiness and fulfilment she seeks in a partnership.

as in, "the gull was perched on the rock"
so it does make sense. i don't think fish have anything to do with it. the "perch" is the rock that the gull is resting on.

I interpret it as..
The girl was, in fact, in love with the boy. And I think the feelings were requited. However, there is something he will not do for her.
For example, let's say it's a long distance relationship, and he won't come to her: "You're a rock, I'm a gull"
A rock meaning, he stays put. And her being a gull, and a changer, she will ultimately move on from him.
I don't believe either are detached from one another as some people here have offered. Just the line 'Might be okay to stay if you could hold me' suggests that she'd be content with staying in one place if he was with her, in that place.

The shores seperated means that they already have different lives but there is still tension between them whether they are trying to work things out or not..."with or without a boat".
Then she goes on about nothing lasts forever.. As in their relationship in the past. she's a "changer" "depending on the weather" means that she changes feelings toward him depending on how he's treating her at the moment. Meaning they've had lots of conflict throughout their time together and apart.
The november part is that she met him in november and that she might of not even gotten together unless they met that night. I'm guessing it was at some party because if your month was "dead", then your probably not going out much.
the breaze and glitch in the tide is about the beginning of their relationship. It symbolizes that she didn't have any idea that he was a huge "storm" which means that they fought a lot in their relationship
The sailing and boating in it is about them trying hard to get through it because they both loved eachother even though they fought a lot.
"Your a rock, I'm a gull"
Means that he can't change. He has serious issues that will be in his life forever. She is a gull because she's a free spirit.
Rocks can't hold things obviously. So I think that line means that despite his issue, he can't hold on to her because he has those problems and she can't live with that because she knows better.
And as the water rises on their relationship... meaning they just had too many problems and fights to stay with him any longer so she had to leave him.
The last part phrase is just reminding him that relationships don't last forever and that she had to move on in life.
she repeats "depending on the weather, I'm a changer" again too because depending on what's good or bad in her life, she'll be changing... growing... learning...
this interpretation was inspired by my last relationship and I think I'm almost exactly dead on with this in my opinion.
I had a boyfriend with an anger problem and I know he'll never change. I tried so hard to make it work, but things just got worse so I had to move on. If I didn't meet him that one night, we probably would have never gotten together. I had no clue I was getting into a very emotional relationship, but I'm glad it came now instead of when I'm older, because I've grown a lot from it and now I know what the warning signs are. As of now... we are not speaking to eachother because he was just as disrespectful to me now as when we were together, so I told him that if he ever wanted to see me again, he would have to come up witha big apologize and give me the respect I deserve, but I know that won't happen so life goes on. :]
Sorry if this was way too personal. This song just has a huge connection with me.

She's basically asking him to make an effort in the relationship. Because she is a changer and by that she means that she'll break up with him if she really has to. It'd be a big change.
Again, another metaphor of distance when it comes to the rock and the gull. The rock cannot do anything but be there. It can't offer the gull any emotional support, any physical support. All it can do is be there and when things start changing (her being a changer thus is subtly brought about) she'll need to leave for there'll be nothing there to make her stay; to let her stay.
And yeah. It's basically the distance within a relationship. I feel it's more emotional, but the physicality of distance could be the factor also.

"and I know that if November had been deader
if we'd hidden a bit better
we'd be strangers"
that may be one of my favorite lyrics ever. it fits perfectly with my situation because me and my ex went 6 months without seeing each other, then last november we finally did. and i know if we didn't see eachother that night then i would have gotten over him a long time ago and we would be strangers

How I see the song is she's talking about how she thinks the "friendship" [or relationship] could never work. This is how I felt about my ex after we broke up, so friendship. How right I was! Anyways, it's not that she's regretting the relationship [if it's about a friendship] but she finds it funny how that if they haven't met that day in november, they wouldn't know each other at all. Which is EXACTLY how I met my ex. Because of a day in november.

"and this breeze blew in
with a glitch in the tide
disguised as storm free
begging you please to take a ride
well soften your sails and take a ride
open the wings and let her fly"
How she says there was a glitch in the tide disguised as storm free, it just reminds me of the guy meeting another girl who kind of pulled him into a friendship and then they ended up having an affair.
