Lacey's voice somehow gets extremely captivating to me.. well, that is; until she starts screaming. I dunno.. I feel like I'm the only person out there who doesn't think that helps the music. Her singing has so much potential, though. If a lot of their songs didn't incorporate that, I'd probably be a big fan. o_o;

Hey peeps, just to let you know, there ARE two versions of this circulating, so your meaning might be different than someone else's because they heard different lyrics. As for the second version, I believe the lyrics are:

Anyways, there appear to be discrepancies between the lyrics of the album version and the lyrics of the video version. Either way, the official lyrics are the ones posted here and on the band's official website, although I HIGHLY recommend listening to this version as well - it's my favourite and it definitely sounds different.

I just wanted to say that anyone out there turned off by the 'screaming' has most likely lived a pretty much carefree life and probably hasn't dealt with much hardships. And those people should continue listening to all that pop crap, because that comes from people that most likely have many things in common with you. Probably, the loudest most gut-wrenching screams come from deep down inside of a person who had to go through a lot of shit. People who enjoy or relate to the screaming or don't mind it most likely have gone through some shit themselves and emotionally it feels good to scream sometimes.

I know this sounds wierd, but everyone has their own opinion of how it is... Well mine is (and I know that it doesn't work, from reading all the other peoples takes on the song but to me) it is about how she thinks its sick how she hurts herself. By saying how selfish she is, thats what hurting yourself can make you think.

This is my favorite band.
I dont understand why they arent more widley known!
I really love their music.
She has such a pretty voice.

k i believe each singer has a style...and lacey's is definetly...err....definite. she can scream she can sing, and she does it well enough. however...her little thing at the beginning of the song pretty much turns me off. i like the message and all that...but she sounds like shes going to cough up and die and it doesn't sound all that great next to one of her angry expressions

In a way, I'm glad to see that no one here is familiar with the effects and after effects of herion use. Naivete is always charming; watching how people try to rationalize the songs lyrics. Not knowing junky lingo, what else can you do? Sombody who is hooked on smack and hasn't had any for a while, is said to be, "Sick", as they start withdrawing. Pains like that go throgh you and your bones, right to your soul.
Infected with where I live... Physical location? Sure. People around you? Absoulutely!!
Watch for non-verbal references in the video. This song is about pain, a warning and hope for everyone.

Wow Im very suprised that only a few people said this song meant abuse/rape. I thought this song was written out of Lacey's anger of being abused. I could be wrong. I think this song is about how the world is messed up, and how sick we are without God. And when people betray us.

actually guys i looked it up... and most of her songs are about being anorexic... read more into it... because i just bought the cd.. listened to it and was like wow.. this is deep.. then looked it up.. and most of her stuff refers to anorexia.. its not straight foward like fiona apple's stuff.. but i saw on an autobiography that she has dealt with it in the past

Its been said a few times that this song is about the crap in this world and how she is sick of it and even though weve been infected we can still change our lives and others around us. Anorexia could very well be a part of it if she did fight it. That makes a lot of sense that her specific sickness could have been anorexia but shes fighting the sickness she got from this world.

to me lacy is trying to tell people about God but they dont want to listen. shes sick of the people around her who just dont understand what it means to believe in God and how much you get out of it. people around her are ignoring her when she feels like she has to scream at them because they dont want to listen. its so hard to comprehend that people dont want to have any part in a relationship with Jesus that its sickning.

Lacey says this song is about people growing up in a sick and messed up place, and they can recognize that and break the cycle. we're all sick, screwed up..messed up people, but if we keep complaining about it, things will never change. that's what she says this song is about.

i think that this song is about someone who is obviously sick of being in a certain place at there life that keeps getting to them, going through something hard and difficult to live with and they just want to get out of it.

This is an extremely good song by a really good band. :]

but anyway, I was watching a live performance of this song and Lacey [the lead singer] said herself when she was introducing the song, "It's about how sometimes the world can be a sick and messed up place and even though we grow up in those kind of situations it doesn't mean that when we can make decisions for ourselves that we have to stay in that situation; that we recognize what's sick and messed up around us and we change things so that we can break the cycle and it doesn't have to continue."

It sounds like shes talking about being molested. Shes sick of where she is because she wants to get away from her home. She sick of being violated and tormented.

Either way i believe there is a deeper meaning to her lyrics then just about the band selling out.

i believe this song can have many different meanings for every individual. to me, i think this song has to do with some kind of addiction, or eating disorder. the "empty bliss" refering either to feeling of being empty that anorexics/bulimics strive for, or the "bliss" or 'high' that drug addicts live for .. in this case, the emptiness would refer to the false happines, or temporary happiness that a drug provides.

but i think the song overall, has more to do with an eating disorder rather than a drug addiction. it's like the eating disorder is speaking to her, it's controlling her life. taking over her mind... it's making her feel worthless, hopeless, so sick. she can't escape it.

she is singing about her anorexia. Anorexia is selfish bliss. She lives with it. Shes infected with it. "I will break into your thoughts" is the anorexia breaking into her thoughts. I think it all makes sense like that anyway

i think it's about how she felt in her crappy home life and how a home is meant to make you feel safe, but it was there she felt the worst of all, being abused and everything.
