They were on XM about a week ago and Lacey explained the song pretty simply. She just said its about her being Sick of all the crap in the world. Violence, Sex, Drugs, ect.

I love this song, I thought it was Avril too. But Avril could never write lyrics/scream/ do anything like this. I have to agree with depthbeyondshallow about this song. But it could be about herself being sick of her town being so selfish and crap and she wants to break away from it all, cause shes not going to put up with them anymore.

Lacey's vocals absolutely fucking rock. The band is great too, I saw them some time ago and they're really good performers.

Lacey's and Avril's voices are a bit reminiscent of each other's because they have a lot of the same qualities except Avril probably can't scream the magnificent way that Lacey does.

I took the song to mean: I'm sick of being here...in this place where I am. Not really a metaphor or anything like that.

I went to a live show (which fuckin kicked ass btw!) and now I know why this song was written. It's about broken homes and abuse. Lacey said that just because you were abused, doesn't mean you have to pass that abuse on to others and that is the meaning of this song. JamRockQueen, sorry for my cursing, but I just have to fuckin express how much I fucking support Lacey going where females usually dare not venture. I fucking support her and girls like her everywhere!!!

I love that the album starts off with this song, more specifically because of the first lines: "I will break into your thoughts with what's written on my heart." Perfect. It's like she's saying, "I'll shatter your mind, what you think you know, with my truth, my words, my life or my lies." Whatever is in her heart, engraved into the very deep of her, she's going to either sing it beautifully or scream it out loud until they know at as well as she does.

"If you want more of this We can push out, sell out, die out" If you want it, I'll give it to you to the point that I'm pushing, I'm selling myself unto the death of me.

"So you'll shut up And stay sleeping With my screaming in your itching ears" Ha ha, so you'll keep your mouth closed, just stay in la la land and I'll be yelling and screaming in your ears, but it's not getting through to you as more than a buzz causing your ears to itch.

"Hear it I'm screaming it You're heeding to it now Hear it! I'm screaming it! You tremble at this sound" Listen to me because I'm screaming it at you, for you, to you, and now you're finally paying attention to what I've been telling you and now you're scared and you're sorry, but it's too late.

"You sink into my clothes And this invasion Makes me feel Worthless, hopeless, sick" You are a parasite, sinking into my clothes, passing my first layer of protection. You're trespassing and you're making me feel like shit, your actions are causing me misery.

The song’s message isn’t exactly a revelation, but here it is. (Actuality #3) “‘I’m So Sick’ is about how our world is a sick place and it’s messed up and we’re all going to experience it. It’s a sick, messed-up place and we are a product of our surroundings to some extent, and you grow up and you feel messed up. The cry in the song is that despite how I grew up, despite the people around me or where I live or anything like that, that I can still look at who I want to be and get strength from that and aim towards it, I can still choose to be the person that I want to be.”

this song is awesome! whenever i'm in a bad mood or just pissed off at the world i wlaways think of this song; it rocks! i think she sounds a lot like avril lavigne, which is cool 'cause avril's awesome, too, but i think the music in this song is better than the music in avril's songs.

Contrary to previously posted lyrics, official and otherwise, does any one else not hear "You broke into my thoughts", and, later, "You broke into my heart"?

On the version that I have, I am having a difficult time hearing "You sink into my clothes", ever.

Given the opening lines, "thoughts" and "heart" also make MUCH better sense than "clothes". :-)

In the version that I have, towards the end, she also makes references to:
"I['ll?] relive what you said, ???, unless we take it back."
"If I die here With this story always running ??? the purpose..."
^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ missing serious lyrics, yes, I know.

The song is wrapped up with: "I will compromise and die here".

To me, the song is about a dysfunctional relationship [or world/environment]: retalliation, mutual mind-f*ck, and all of the sickness that ensues - only to reside and remain, within your own fate.

this is one of my favorite songs right. it means she's staying with someone (i.e., a boyfriend) and he makes her feel sick. she wants to leave but she can't,

but, it should be

No, she is not singing about the sell-outs. Flyleaf is far from being a sell-out kind of band. They do it for the music, not the fame.

She is singing about how the world is a sick and messed up place, but just because the world is messed up, doesn't mean we have to be sick and messed up people.

If you like hard stuff, and want a female lead, check out Fall River. They're SO GOOD. They broke up really recently, but if you like metal you'll love them. AGH!
