I can't really tell if this song is about being pissed off at the world, or just pissed off at her own circumstances.

Although, reading it, it can almost be interepreted as a shot at music in general. She seems to be saying she's sick of people wanting sellout's and people who do the same thing over and over.

I am going to share what i get out of this song. I think she is bitching about apathy, and our apathetic society. How people who care too much are looked down on, or seen as strange...sick. How people who FEEL deep feelings may even be encouraged to seek therapy. How the close minded, apathetic people don't want to hear what she has to say.

For me, the song's taking a shot at all these sell-outs that we see in the music scene these days, no matter what genre - rock, rap, or otherwise - we listen to. The first three lines are awesome XD "Just shut the fuck up and listen, damn it, until you get this shit drilled into your head," basically. Musicians've become corporate whores, to say the least and she has a blatant example that I love here:

Gettin' more detailed and a bit literal, musicians are all over the fucking place advertising for fashion lines or making their own and trying to make it the "standard of an individual" I like to call it. But yeah, this is just a message to the sellouts and cash-whores in the music industry - at least to me it is. And to paraphrase Bill Hicks:

Here's the rule, folks. If you do a commercial, you're automatically taken off the artistic roll call. I don't care if you shit out Mona Lisa's on que, you made you're fucking choice. If you're a young actor, fine, I'll look the other way - other than that, no. One exception: Willie Nelson, $24 million tax debt, he was a bit looser than the rest of us. I just avert my eyes whenever he sings about tacos...

this band kicks so much ASS!! hey preSCHOOL, the singining may sound alike, but I thinks FLYLEAF could take AVRIL to SCHOOL no fuckin doubt!! this girl can scream!!!!!

anyways I think the song is about wanting to get people to hear what she has to say...people need to stop being so obsessed with bullshit like material possessions (especially her!)
she's infected with where she lives...a materialistic, superficial, FAKE society. too many people have that sickness if you ask me...
And I agree with charish 2k1 this really comes out in the music business....

for the fact that she's screaming, lacey can sing hella good. i'm not against avril, but there is noway she could sound that good while screaming.

well, i think it could be about two things. one of them is that she's fed-up with where she is and she wants to be somewhere else::

personally i relate this song to me and my ex.. we broke up around vday and every once in awhile we'll get together for a random hookup. so i'm really getting sick of doing it but can't help myself. sooo

"i will break into your thoughts, with what's written on my heart" to me means she's finally trying to tell him she's sick of it, and she won't allow him to hurt her anymore.

so 'let me live without this empty bliss, selfishness' means she's sick of having sex with no feelings, and it's selfish of them.

If you want more of this

(if the guy wants more of her, they could hook up.. afterwards he'd 'shut up' by stop asking her for it, or pretending to say loving things to get with her.. then sleep afterwards, and she's up contemplating how to deal with it and let him know how she's sick of it)

same with "you sink into my clothes, this invasion makes me feel worthless hopeless sick"

Maybe 'infected with where i live' could mean she lived with the guy and it made it harder to avoid having sex.

also "itching ears" is an old meaning that someone likes to hear gossip, but i can't tie it into the lyrics.

It means she is talking crap about everyone. So I think she is refering to all sell outs and how sick it is that she is caught in their web. I think people relate to it because everyone has someone that makes them feel sick.I think that punkroxncoke has a good view of how most people will relate to the song. I really liked what depthbeyondshallow said in his post especially the part about "people who FEEL deep feelings". It is also possible that she was raped, and refered to him as "empty bliss, selfishness" like a nightmare that won't leave when you wake up. Like a kid traped in a home with a molester. Now that is sick!! Sorry if that got too morbid for some but that is what it sounds like to me. She really does have an awesome unique voice!

HEY I HAVE AN IDEA :o

Well this one version I have of this song is different, it REALLY sounds like she sings "You broke into my faith" and since Flyleaf is Christian Rock, I think it originally meant someone who was losing faith in god or something like that, cause some person was like brainwashing or giving bad ideas or something...

Yeah that's what I think, I'm not trying to put Christian-y stuff in here, cause I'm not a Christian... I just think that's what this song has to do with...
