I'm So Sick

I was surprised to see only one or two comments on this song that mentioned anything to do with abuse or rape.

"You sink into my clothes This invasion makes me feel Worthless, hopeless, sick"

This verse clearly indicates she had been abused - the word "invasion" is a big clue. The emotions she lists afterwards are usual symptoms of rape victims, as well.

The chorus: I'm so sick, infected with Where I live Let me live without this Empty bliss, selfishness I'm so, I'm so sick

The chorus indicates that the abuser was close to home, which made the writer feel even more violated. She beings to feel "infected" because she is being abused in a place that is supposed to bring her security and comfort. The author feels out of place and extremely lost.

The line "Let me live without this" indicates two things about the writer: one, her inferiority to her abuser, pleading for him to end the horror; two, her longing for what she now views as a better and happier life.

The line "You broke into my faith" is an amazing way of the writer saying that her abuser came between her and something greater: her relationship with God. She feels as if she is being tested, or maybe even betrayed, by the God she felt would shelter her from such torture.

Luckily, the writer had it right: she viewed the experience, no matter how devastated and violated she felt, as a test from God. She felt if she overcame this, the experience would result in a stronger relationship and greater faith in God.

I honestly had no idea who this band was before several hours ago. So I had no idea they were a Christian rock group until I came on to this site and analyzed the lyrics. It's amazing stuff.. I'm definitely not going to stop listening to Flyleaf now that I found out what they are all about. It's actually refreshing to hear a band sing about something so compelling, besides drug addiction or heroine. (Although those are great too.)

The girl's voice gives me chills in every song on this CD. The review I read basically said they rocked hard ("with the rock hardship of Audioslave and the rock melody of Incubus"). Anyway, I'm rambling. I hoped this helped..

this is what i listen to when i'm pissed off.

for some reason her voice is more eerie than any other voice i've heard.

but i guess that's a good thing when you're pissed off at the world.

I am going to share what i get out of this song. I think she is bitching about apathy, and our apathetic society. How people who care too much are looked down on, or seen as strange...sick. How people who FEEL deep feelings may even be encouraged to seek therapy. How the close minded, apathetic people don't want to hear what she has to say.

i was at a friends house and we were talking about screaming music. and shes like "girl screaming is so much freakier than guy screaming" and im like "oh yeah? prove it."

she played this song and im "yeah youre right this is so much scarier. AND ITS AWESOME!!!"

it def sounds like she hates her surroundings. but i think there is another interpretation.

my first thought about this was that it was about the sickness INSIDE her. she sees all this around her and hates it, but realizes shes found the same thing inside herself. and it makes her sick. shes trying to convince everyone to stop being so sick and shes trying to convince herself at the same time. shes trying to cure the infection that just wont leave.

i immediately thought of the part in the Bible when paul realizes that no matter how hard he tries there is something sick inside him, trying to rule him, and he cant break out of it (this would be sin) and he says "what a wretched man i am!" that was initially the verse i thought this song was based on.

i love flyleaf and anyone who says differently can go suck big fat monkey balls

To me this song means she's sick of her mindset and how she's lived selfishly. She is screaming out to G-d that she wants Him in her life and to change.

Hi Guys I have the real meaning to this song because I've talked to band about their music.

I'll go ahead and make sure this post has a large box size so everyone can see it.

First of all I haven't read all of the posts so if anyone has already posted this then... well I'm just agreeing with you.

Second, for those that dont know already, Flyleaf is a Christian Heavy Rock Band, so pretty much all of the songs they make contain somewhat religious content.

The sickness that she talking about is the sickness within her heart, and. Like my all time favorite band, Skillet, Flyleaf often has songs about Satan, sin, and selfness, which is briefly living for yourself and not for god. If you want an example of songs with Satan, i'd listen to "Open Wounds by Skillet". For sin and selfness, listen to "Monster" by Skillet.

Between those three, this song would fall under the category of Satan and selfness. I know this can hard to understand so I looked for other christian songs that could better describe what "the sickness of Satan and Self" really is.

D.C. Talk: In The Light - Great Song! good for this. Mercy Me: So Long Self - Another good example for self Skillet: It's Not Me It's You - Perfect for this! Its about how Satan and sin has poisoned him and caused so much pain in his life.

It's defiantly easier to understand from a christian view but i promise you this is the song meaning. while I'm not sure exactly every bit ad word meaning, I know the intent of the song cuz they said it at their concert at my church.

OK, so here's my personal break down, again, its not perfect, but it works with the overall song intent.

"I will break into your thoughts With what's written on my heart I will break, break" (this is the sickness of Satan, Satan gives us bad thoughts and desires, we know that they are wrong, but if are hearts are not strong enough, then they break through and we submit to them.)

"I'm so sick, Infected with where I live Let me live without this Empty bliss, Selfishness I'm so sick I'm so sick" (this pretty easy to understand, the part "where I live" I think is a metaphor for where he heart is.)

"If you want more of this We can push out, sell out, die out So you'll shut up And stay sleeping With my screaming in your itching ears" (this is Satan again. Hes saying to stop fighting him and give in to his will on her heart, by threatening her with the pain she feels.

" Hear it, I'm screaming it You're heeding to it now"

"Hear it! I'm screaming it! You tremble at this sound" (She is now screaming NO! to Satan and fighting him. In the bible it said that the one thing Satan fears most is God so i think shes screaming for God, knowing that Satan will back off.)

"You sink into my clothes And this invasion Makes me feel Worthless, hopeless, sick"

(By now you can probably understand the content here. I think clothes are a metaphor for "outer skin" or the way people now see her. The invasion are the multiple struggles in her life that Satan is using to make her depressed and now feels "Worthless, hopeless, sick")

Anyways, there appear to be discrepancies between the lyrics of the album version and the lyrics of the video version. Either way, the official lyrics are the ones posted here and on the band's official website, although I HIGHLY recommend listening to this version as well - it's my favourite and it definitely sounds different.

I think this song might actually mean that she is tired of the general media.. They are all sitting there with blinders on and no one want to listen to what she really has to say. They choose not listen to what her songs really mean, and open their heart they way she has in her life. It's her commitment to god that other people are not willing to share. It's a matter of conviction and you really have to believe in what she is singing about.
