for those of you who didn't already make the connection

i like the path into this heart part - maybe its saying hes broken many hearts, so watch out even though he wants to love her, but hes had so many that hes ruined... or maybe its the vampire analogy again...

I think this song connects a lot to "Every Man Has A Molly," about relationships not working out because of his art. "I'd axe it off to shut me up, but you've already heard...the murders have occurred." The same with "The path into this heart is littered with corpses." Girls have already "died" trying to get to his heart, because he's murdered them because he can't shut up.

one of the first say anything songs ive heard. my favorite by far. i agree, its the idea that even if he wanted to love this new interest, hes ruined so many that he hopes she doesnt expect it to go well.

As previously stated, it's about him messing up. Like always, Max uses metaphors to get his point across- which is what makes the songs, in my opinion.

I think in this, he's saying 'hey, people who are a bit more headstrong than you have tried to get close, but I always fuck it up.' So basically, no one can get close to him without getting hurt.

I think the "path into this heart is littered with corpses and strewn with bodyparts of those who came before/stronger souls than you" part is more or less saying "I've had people that meant more to me than you do, but even they couldn't get to my heart without me screwing up, so why bother".

He wants to tell her that he really still loves his previous girlfriend/wife... what have you. He finally tells her, but says it in a way in which he didn't want to.

He doesn't exactly have murder on his conscience, but he does believe that he messed up in the past and "murdered" his other relationships. And he hurt girls who were more resistant to being hurt than his current girl, and wants her to just give up on him.

He wants his current lover to figuratively "kill" him, but in reality, just leave him completely and, because in his mind, he is already dead. He looks at himself as a "vampire" for a second, in the sense that no matter how many times someone "kills" his relationships, he will always come back for more, until he finds his old lover again. But before his current lover goes, he wants her to know that he does care for her, and that's why he's doing it.

He really just says that he won't miss his current lover if she left, because he knows that she will be better off without him, and his last few girlfriends, he's felt the same. He looks at himself as dead at this point."

Pretty self-explanatory, but he's telling her that she can't do anything to help. He's just a lost cause, and he's doomed to be alone and miserable because of his past mistakes.
