Standing at the back door
She tried to make it fast
One tear hit the hard wood
It fell like broken glass
She said sometimes love slips away
And you just can't get it back
Let's face it

For one split second
She almost turned around
But that would be like pouring rain drops
Back into a cloud
So she took another step and said
I see the way out, and I'm gonna take it

I don't wanna spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I let all these years go by
Wasted

Another glass of whiskey but it still don't kill the pain
So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain
He said it's time to be a man and stop living for yesterday
Gotta face it

'Cause I don't wanna spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I let all these years go by
Wasted

Oh, I don't wanna keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted

She kept drivin' along
Till the moon and the sun were floating side-by-side
He looked in the mirror and his eyes were clear
For the first time in a while, hey, yeah

Oh, I don't wanna spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I let all these years go by
Wasted

Oh, I don't wanna keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted

Oh, I don't wanna spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I let all these years go by
Wasted, yeah, yeah

Oh, I don't wanna keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted

    General Comment:jad·ed
    adjective /ˈjādid/

Tired, bored, or lacking enthusiasm, typically after having had too much of something
    - meals to tempt the most jaded appetites

Well this is certainly out of character for me but I have to comment on this song. This is one of my ex-wife's top ten favorite songs so I had to research it and everything available online about it.

I may be way off the mark here but I believe that this song has little to do with alcohol abuse and everything to do with worn out relationships! I think that "wasted" is referring to the women's sense of not living a fulfilling life anymore with her current partner. The guy figures out that he's not helping the problem by drinking his sorrows away AFTER she left him and decides to pour the drink down the drain. It's very clever that the song writer justifies her leaving by having the man decide to "be a man" alleviate her guilt for leaving him in the first place, instead of doing what people do in any successful relation - work it out, reinvent it, keep it fresh, invest in it, build on the mutual respect for each other instead of doing things that tear away at it, honor your vows and your commitment to the one that you chose as a life partner in the first place. General Comment:this song is so completely beautiful. like when your not feeling happy about life, this song is like saying 'just enjoy it and have fun'

    when she says:
"I don't wanna spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I let all these years go by
    Wasted "

its like she's saying that she does't want to waste these years she's got, she wants to live for now and be happy.

    but then she says:
"Oh I don't wanna keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
    Wasted"

which makesit sound like she has a drink problem and is always drunk. and now she doesnt want to spend it drunk, but sober. and because the bit before that talks about him drinking wisky but then throws it away because it doesnt help him.

thats what i think anyway. basically i love this song.

General Comment:this song has a double meaning... he has a drinking problem and he is spending his time wasted... while she is wasting her time.

General Comment:I think is both a love song and a song about life and making choices.... She is in a relationship with a guy who is probably an alcoholic, and even though she loves him for whatever reason she feels they are drifting apart and their relationship is not the same love that they once had ((She said sometimes love slips away, And you just can't get it back )) ... She must make the choice to either staying with him and continue to watch things fall apart probably because of his alcohol, or leaving him and trying to start over... ((I don't wanna spend my life jaded, Waiting to wake up one day and find That I let all these years go by, Wasted)) She decides she doesnt want to wasted her love and life trying to fix or save something that seems hopeless or may not even change, and leaves even though she does still love him... She almost changes her mind and goes back to him but realizes that it wouldnt be any good and contines on her path to a new life... ((For one split second She almost turned around, But that would be like pouring rain drops Back into a cloud)) After she leaves him he probably realizes it was because he was an alcohol and was wasting away from the alcohol and such and thats why he pours the alcohol down the drain and hopefully starts to change....((Another glass of whisky but it still don't kill the pain, So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain. He said it's time to be a man and stop living for yesterday)) ((He looked in the mirror and his eyes were clear, For the first time in a while))

The end of the song it sounds like he stoped drinking but it was already to late and she was gone... She had let go and was trying to move on.... At the end of the music video it looks like either he is asking her to come back or she is saying good bye to him... or something similar im not totally sure.... but it doesnt seem like she is going to go back to him....

I absolutly LOVE this song, partially because I can relate to it alot, and partially because I like Carrie herself... she has such a beautiful voice and her songs are awsome... =)

General Comment:guys... this song is about two SEPARATE story lines (in the video she puts both of them together). they both are suffering with alcoholism.

General Comment:This song rocks!! Carrie Underwood can belt this one out beautifully.

    I agree with headoverheels!!! It's not a break-up song.

She loved him but realized she was waisting her life with him, so she left. He then realized what he had done by drinking, waisting his own life and pushing her away and then went after her. (the song doesn't state this, but it's what happens in the video)
