Lyrics for Sunday Best as interpreted by moonlights

Sunday Best Lyrics
When she's sleeping on the sofa
When she's laying in her sunday best
When she's turning over Friday
I could swear I'm sleeping less and less.
And the ocean's getting warmer
And California's on her mind
Los Angeles is tired
But we always seem to feel alright

But I won't
No I won't

Cause she's already out the door
She's already out of here
She's already gone away
Already gone away

When I'm coming over sunday
And I think about you all the time
I wonder what you're doing
I wonder why you never cry
When Boston's always raining
And we never ever seemed alive
I sung about you once now
I guess I might as well

But I won't
No I won't

Cause I'm already out the door
I'm already out of here
I've already gone away
Already gone away

Well I'm already out the door
I'm already out of here
I've already gone away
Already gone away

the cd is all about the same person....an imaginary girl named 'ana'.....thats how they got there name...they put the 12 months of the yr and 12 girls names in a hat and pulled out 'august' and 'ana'.....and 'ana' is who they sing about

The guys chose Augustana because it means "small glimpse of hope" in Latin. They didn't draw names out of a hat.

When I first heard this song, I assumed it was about this couple comprised of a girl who had emotionally checked out of the relationship and was therefore..." already gone away", and a guy who at first held on to her "and I think about you all the time"...and later, after realizing the fact, fully left the relationship first. "Well, I'm already out the door..."
I could be wrong though =)

This is a great song, I love the 'softer' Augustana songs like this one and Boston. I wish they'd make more of them that are acoustic or piano, but I guess that would detract from their Rock roots.

I feel like this song is about the singer breaking up with the girl due to circumstances (she leaves LA for Boston). He still thinks about her, but it's too late and they've both kinda made their peace with it. Still, it's a song about love. I really like it because I'm in a similar situation and I know how it feels to be in love with someone but having to break it off due to circumstances.

no...i know what "the howee" is talking about.
if you watch their short film video (you can see it on yahoo music videos) they talk about how they got their name and they say they drew months and names out of a hat and got "august" and "ana".
but they could be fooling around i guess and maybe they were just joking? i don't know.

but i do love this song and i love augustana. it feels like i fall in love with their songs more and more each day.

I think it's about a girl that the singer loves and how they lived together and he thought things were fine at first, but she started getting depressed and distant. When she finally leaves him for Boston, he misses her and thinks about her a lot, but he's trying to move on.

Nothing too intense, but the song is really mellow and sweet. Sort of reminds me of summer.

I don't understand these parts though.

When she's turning over Friday

When I'm coming over sunday

they just sound weird.

ok, for once and for all, they got their name from the latin word meaning "small glimpse of hope" not some stupid hat, and they based this cd around that as well as finding a sense of home through a person rather than a place

moving on, i love this song

its about a guy who still loves this girl thats "already gone away" and he's looking back fondly on their relationship, remembering how she looked laying on the sofa and wondering what she's doing in her life now that she's moved on.
he misses her and is losing sleep over it, confused about why she left but knowing they never had the best life together (and we never ever seem alive).
with how upbeat and relaxed this song is, it makes me wonder if its in this song that he gets that its over and by him being "already out the door" he's finally ready to move on

I just saw Augustana open for the Goo Goo Dolls, and when they played this song, almost everybody (at least everybody sitting near me) thought this song sounded almost exactly like the Goo's "Name". Great album though, and they put on a pretty good show for an opening act.

This is my favorite song of of All the Stars and Boulevards.

I agree with the people before me. It's most definately about a relationship that's ending most likely because of distance. I caught the reference to Boston and California in both Boston and this song as well. To me it was like he loved someone who was happy with they're life far away. I know the feeling so I guess that's what this song holds so much pleasure for me.
Something not mentioned is that during the "No, I won't" part "Don't come back" is sung in the background. It's hard to distinguish on the cd, but in concert they practically shouted it at the end. So that makes me think that this is the kind of love affair where you love the person, but you know that the best thing is for him or her to stay out of your life, because they aren't making it better.

I agree with Jump daylight. The singer still loves the girl who has "already gone away" but he knows they're better off apart under circumstances.
This song also has a meaning to me personally. My boyfriend of forever and I broke up, so of course I had an immediate rebound guy. Eventually, my ex found out and did everything possible to get me back. Im with him again, but I accidentally formed too many strong feelings for the rebound guy and this was his and my song. So everytime I listen to it, i think of him and wonder what things might have been like...but then i think of how I'm more in love with my ex/boyfriend and my rebound and I would be better off apart.

okay ^"remember" that didnt make any sense. but okay.

But i agree with the long distance theory.
shes not upset about it becasue i guess shes moved on or accepted it.
and he's still mourning over her absence.
at at the end of the song. he finally accepts the situation and moves on.

augustana is amazing.
no doubttt.

This is my favourite Augustana song by far :)

Love the 2nd verse, especially the emphasis on "all the time" and even though the song meaning is pretty sad, it never fails to make me smile. Best kinds of songs.
