Lyrics for All My Friends as interpreted by HazMatador

All My Friends Lyrics
All my friends in magazines
Got addicted to the word "leave"
And they all wrote songs that they believe
Little lies and massive dreams

And they all request that you slow down
And they all request that you slow down
You've got to turn it around
And make a save

There's a whore inside their bed
The duvets wish that they were still wet
And all the songs they wrote instead
Your ex-lover is not dead

And they all request that you slow down
And they all request that you slow down
You've got to turn it around
And make a save

All my friends in magazines
Got addicted to the word "leave"
And all the songs that you believe
Once they stop you can't repeat
Once you stop you can’t repeat

i love the simplicity of this song. most BSS songs are full of different instruments and voices while this song just has a light guitar and a light voice.

i'm not sure what this song is supposed to mean. it sounds like something MY FRIENDS and i would write. maybe the lyrics were meant to swing to anyone and to any prespective. to me it has something that no one else can understand. and to YOU it means something only you can understand.

This is literally about their friends. "In all the songs they wrote instead, your ex-lover is not dead" is a reference to Stars, and "the duvets wish that they were still wet" is a reference to Metric. There are probably other references I'm not picking up on.

Also, it should be "little lives and massive dreams".

i used to think this song was a ballsy beg from broken social scene for all their friends to slow the hell down with getting big, with the stars & metric references after all. mostly because i thought the line was "may i request that you slow down?" either way, it's still an amazing tune, rivaling the most powerful, epic numbers BSS can offer, despite being their most stripped-down song

i dont understand it, exactly, it sounds like all your thoughts could be correct, but this song, just the way of his voice makes me want to cover my ears in response. it is so beautiful, so simple, and plain. it it wonderful.

First, it's "all my freinds are magazines". That being said, I think that the line is a metaphore for the how his freinds all read others ideas and then regurgitate the stolen ideas as their own...a sketchy move to say the least.
Next, "I got addicted to the word leave" I would say clearly is saying that he wants to be alone. This may be because he is wise to his freinds theivery. Reguardles he wants them out.
Then i think that "And they all request that you slow down, You’ve got to turn it around, And make a save" are the words of all his freinds. He is most likely alienating them in some way...maybe drugs, or maybe a girl. I think alienation is a major theme of this song. Ok, thats all I've got for now.

Do you mean that "the duvets wish they were still wet" is a reference to "Wet Blanket"? I can see how that would work.

But I am sure that this isn't a song about condemning friends and band members. That's ridiculous.

I take that back.
It is just a reference, and to many of the other artists from BSS.

It wouldn't be as obvious as the other references, but could "There's a whore inside their bed" be a reference to Apostle of Hustle's "Sleepwalking Ballad"? ("I went in to the wrong house last night, and crawled into the wrong bed...")

well, to me the line "all my friends in magazines" is about how alot of Kevin's friends are in famous bands now and are, as the song says "in magazines"...and i also agree with the reference parts to stars and metric

Agree w/ the song allusions to Stars, Metric, and Apostle of Hustle. This song is not about "taking shots" about the bands themselves but is about the downside of being "famous".... it's great how successful BSS's friends are but at the same time, they don't see each other very much anymore because they're constantly touring and promoting. I bet Kevin Drew wrote the lyrics..... he's asking them to slow down. It must be a little overwhelming with expecations and pressure to perform etc. BSS and friends are all endure grueling tours bc that's how they make most of their money. It must be exhausting to be on the road all the time and to be away from your loved ones..... I wonder how Feist and Drew cope now that they're lovers?

All my friends are magazines.
I got addicted to the one leaf.
And they wrote songs that they believe.
Little Lies and massive dreams.

They're on a quest that you slowed down.
They're on a quest that you slowed down.
You've got to turn it around.
Make us say...

There is a whore inside their bed.
The duvets wish that they were still wet.
And only songs they wrote instead.
Your ex-lover is not there.

They're on a quest that you slowed down
They're on a quest that you slowed down
You've got to turn it around.
Make us say...

All my friends are magazines.
Got addicted to the one leaf.
And all the songs that you believe,
Once you start, you can't repeat.
Yea, once you start you can't repeat.

Yea, once you stop, you can't repeat.

First ones wrong.

It's either word leaf or one leaf. I thought one leaf was a cooler idea but It does sound like he says word.

If he really says "all my friends in magazines..." I lose a little respect for kevin drew cuz thats some pretty lame shit.
