Die Nacht öffnet ihren Scho
Das Kind heiÃ?t Einsamkeit
Es ist kalt und regungslos
Ich weine leise in die Zeit
Ich weiÃ? nicht wie du heiÃ?t
Doch ich weiÃ? dass es dich gibt
Ich weiÃ? dass irgendwann
irgendwer mich liebt

He comes to me every night
No words are left to say
With his hands around my neck
I close my eyes and pass away

I don't know who he is
In my dreams he does exist
His passion is a kiss
And I can not resist

Ich warte hier
Don't die before I do
Ich warte hier
Stirb nicht vor mir

I don't know who you are
I know that you exist
Stirb nicht
Sometimes love seems so far
Ich warte hier
Your love I can't dismiss
Ich warte hier

Alle Häuser sind verschneit
Und in den Fenstern Kerzenlicht
Dort liegen sie zu zweit
Und ich
Ich warte nur auf dich

Ich warte hier
Don't die before I do
Ich warte hier
Stirb nicht vor mir

I don't know who you are
I know that you exist
Stirb nicht
Sometimes love seems so far
Ich warte hier
Your love I can't dismiss

Stirb nicht vor mir

[English Translation]
The night opens her lap
The child's name is loneliness
It is cold and motionless
I cry softly into time
I don't know what your name is
But I know that you exist
I know that sometime
someone will love me

He comes to me every night
No words are left to say
With his hands around my neck
I close my eyes and pass away

I don't know who he is
In my dreams he does exist
His passion is a kiss
And I can not resist

I wait here
Don't die before I do
I wait here
Don't die before I do

I don't know who you are
I know that you exist
Don't die
Sometimes love seems so far
I wait here
Your love I can't dismiss
I wait here

All the houses are covered in snow
And candle light in the windows
They lie there together
And I
I only wait for you

I wait here
Don't die before I do
I wait here
Don't die before I do

I don't know who you are
I know that you exist
Don't die
Sometimes love seems so far
I wait here
Your love I can't dismiss

Don't die before I do

General Comment:it's about erotic asphyxiation, when I first heard the song I thought it's about someone who is alone and longs for love, and hopes that there must be someone for him/her, but I knew that Rammstein doesn't do that kinda songs, they do sing about love, but different kinds of love, so I listened a couple more times, and I got it, I prefered the first idea I had about the song, though :)

General Comment:I considered the Dracula theory but as i looked up the lyrics i started to thing more of the phantom of the opera coming to her at night and not knowing how his is and many more of the lyrics seem to point in that phantom direction. :)

General Comment:It reminds me of Phantom of the Opera.

    Christine:
In sleep he sang to me
    In dreams he came
That voice which calls to me
    And speaks my name
    And do I dream again?
    For now I find
The phantom of the opera is there,
    Inside my mind

    Phantom:
    Sing once again with me
    Our strange duet
    My power over you
    Grows stronger yet
And though you turn from me
    to glance behind
The phantom of the opera is there
    Inside your mind

General Comment:It seems to me that this song is about two people that're lonely, and looking for love.
He might be speaking for himself, or for both of them, I can't really tell. =/

    "Die Nacht öffnet ihren Schoß
    Das Kind heißt Einsamkeit
    Es ist kalt und regungslos
Ich weine leise in die Zeit"

    How lonely they are...

"Ich weiß nicht wie du heißt
Doch ich weiß dass es dich gibt
    Ich weiß dass irgendwann
    irgendwer mich liebt"

He's convinced that eventually, someone will love him/them.

"He comes to me every night
No words are left to say
With his hands around my neck
I close my eyes and pass away
I don't know who he is
In my dreams he does exist
    His passion is a kiss
    And I can not resist"

She dreams of a man that will love her.

    "Ich warte hier
    Don't die before I do
    Ich warte hier
    Stirb nicht vor mir"

They don't want to die before they find love.

"I don't know who you are
    I know that you exist
    Stirb nicht"

They don't know who they'll fall in love with.

    "Sometimes love seems so far
    Ich warte hier
    Your love I can't dismiss
    Ich warte hier"

Sometimes it's hard to continue believing that love will find her/them.

    "Alle Häuser sind verschneit
    Und in den Fenstern Kerzenlicht
    Dort liegen sie zu zweit
    Und ich
    Ich warte nur auf dich"

Only they will work for each other.

    "Ich warte hier
    Don't die before I do
    Ich warte hier
    Stirb nicht vor mir"

He waits for love to find him.

"I don't know who you are
    I know that you exist
    Stirb nicht
    Sometimes love seems so far
    Ich warte hier
    Your love I can't dismiss"

    (See above :P)

    "Stirb nicht vor mir"

I think that Till singing in German, and Sharleen singing in English shows how far apart/separated the two are. Anyway, awesome song.

General Comment:"As for the meaning, I believe it's about two people, who have never met, but dream about each other every night - like soul mates."

yep, I concur. The line about having his hands around her neck is supposed to be more of a romantic expression...carressing it, not strangling. She passes away because there's nothing left to want, and she's at peace.

As for the quality of the song...it took me a REALLY long time to get into Rosenrot, but I absolutely love this song now. I like when they dont stick strictly to German...Te Quiero Puta! is another amazing song that does this. Moskau was an excellent song as well, and it wasn't completely in German.

The lyrics are so beautiful. "Ich weiß nicht wie du heißt, Doch ich weiß dass es dich gibt. Ich weiß dass irgendwann
irgendwer mich liebt" -> wonderful :)

General Comment:what I love about Rammstein is that their songs are always so melodic. I am a big fan of minor keys...and most of their songs are in minor

General Comment:I absolutely adore this song. I love the fact that it is so unlike Rammstein's other songs. I always love it when my favorite artists surprise me with something completely different.

As for the meaning, I believe it's about two people, who have never met, but dream about each other every night - like soul mates.

They could even be oceans apart, which of course is supported by the fact that one is singing in English, and the other in German. The line, "No words are left to say," supports this theory.

And of course, the phrase, "Stirb nicht vor mir" means they each hope they can find eachother before this life ends. Absolutely beautiful!

General Comment:this is one of the few Rammstein songs i dont know what its about. its not my favorite, but not because its lighter, or slower, or the female vocalist. those are all good points. the reason i dont like it is because some of it is english. if they made a version that was all German, that would be awesome. Flake (keyboardist) dislikes this song for the same reason.

General Comment:To me this sounds like Till is someone who doesnt actually exist, like he's just a fantasy of this woman

He comes to me every night
No words are left to say
With his hands around my neck
I close my eyes and pass away

i find the 'with his hands around me neck, i close my eyes and pass away' part to be a bit unsettling bc when i first heard it i immedietly thought he was strangling her, though the rest of the song suggests that this isnt the case, it may be figurative that her addiction to this imaginary person is suffocating her to death

I don't know who he is
In my dreams he does exist
    His passion is a kiss
    And I can not resist

she doesnt know who he is and he exists in her dreams, supporting the fact that her lover isnt real

    Sometimes love seems so far

before she can even finish that sentence, till yells:

    Ich warte hier!

from what i see, the woman has had so much trouble finding a love she created an imaginary friend of sorts to comfort her, and after she continues to have problems finding a real lover she starts to brainwash herself into believing that her imaginary partner is real, there are ppl who do that sadly
