Merka ha de faott at landet uten konge har gaott
Saknet itte grid e stort i slik ein krig
Harde tider ha da vore for landet
Men trast e alt ved da gamle

Da e Fanden han trur pao han Sverre
Med sine meinrao og kunster
Men Fanden e slik gir framleik ei tid
Men pao slutten endast svik

Mot Sverre Prest da drepast skal
Staole skakje neri slirao kvila
Likehendte ke so føre oss bli drepe
La Saongdøledne herska over eige rike

Gudane me lovar å fao seieren i hamn
Ikkje vil eg bera kongsnamn i slik eit land
Dar lausungar kreve krunao
med våpen i hand
Da e uvandt i å skifta mat åt hund og ramn

Ilske gjerningar samvitet hans rir
Inga elenda ugjort da svir
Bøtast da mao prisen e sæle
Dyrt da e å herja kristna land med eld

"Meinrao", means "Advice", "Knowledge" or "skills", as far as i can recall.

Ola Nordal (on last.fm) was amazing enough to translate the song. Major kudos to him.

They have felt that the kingdom has no king The longing for mercy is great in a war like this Hard times is has been for the kingdom But soon all will be as it was

It is the Devil he believes in, Sverre With his dark arts (*) But the Devil gives only for some time But in the end it’s always betrayal

Against Sverre then Priest shall be killed The steel shall not rest in sheath Whatever is before us be killed Let Sognedøledn rule their own land (**)

We promise the gods our victory I will not be called King in a kingdom like this Where an illegitimate child can claim the crown (*) with sword in hand It is unusual to change food at dog and raven (**)

Shameful memories of deeds he has done torments his mind No harm undone that causes pain The price paid is happiness High-priced it is to lay waste Christian lands with fire.

    • I frankly do not know what the word “meinrao” means, and I can’t find it in any of my dictionaries.

    ** The people of Sogn

*** Sverre was said to be the illegitimate son of one of the Norwegian kings. He came from the Faroe Islands and claimed the throne from Magnus Erlingsson, and killed him in the battle of Fimreite in 1184. Sverre is one of the greatest and most disputed kings in the history of Norway.

**** I don’t know what he means here. The translation is probably wrong as well, but this is what it says word by word.

From what I can gather, "Fagning" means something along the lines of the English "fawning" -- honoring or praising someone.

"med sine meinrao og kunster", should probably be translated as "with his advices and skills"

    Translation

I think: "Da e uvandt i å skifta mat åt hund og ramn" translates to: "It's unusual to feed dogs and ravens". This corresponds with The line from The King Sverre saga where Asbjørn Jonsson says that The King and his men should be slaughtered without mercy, left for wolfs and ravens to feed upon.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
