In the winding down hours
I let your heart down again
(What did I do to make a scene so gory?
I'm no better than the ones before me)
Old habits die hard
I always end up hating the end
(What did I do to make a scene so gory?
I'm no better than the ones before me)

I'm in the middle of a breakdown
Watching you scream
In the middle of a breakdown
Screaming at me

[Chorus:]
And by the way
By the way
What made you think you'd have it your way?
And by the way
By the way
Don't say I didn't warn you that I'll always stay the same

Speechless and frozen
Uncomfortable silence again
(What did I do to make a scene so gory?
I'm no better than the ones before me)
I'm in the middle of a breakdown
Watching you scream
In the middle of a breakdown
Screaming at me

[Chorus]

Battered and bruised
Broken, confused
It's time we both knew, oh
Can't stop what I started
This time we both lose, lose

And by the way
By the way
What made you think you'd have it your way?
And by the way
By the way
Don't say I didn't warn you that I'll always stay the same
The same, the same
I'll always stay the same
(Battered and bruised)
The same, (broken, confused), the same
I didn't warn you that I'd always stay the same

Memory:I loved this song because it reminded me of well ME, lol. Old habits do die hard and what this song means to me is well that this person cheated, I know from experience and Ive been on both sides of the spectrum of being cheated on and I myself cheating and I can so relate to this song because when I got involved in a relationship I would let my guy know that I wasnt going to change, I always ended up cheating. But well thats my point of view.

General Comment:This Song to me means im not gonna change... I already told you who i am you can either except me as i am or not
But then he falls for her and cant stand to see her hurt

    thats what i think

but no matter what it is i absolutely love them
and one day i am going to meet them
without their songs i dont know what i would do
    it would be horrible

General Comment:Personally i think this song is about a guy and a girl who were maybe good friends before and decided to go out or whatever.. and maybe either she was abused by previous boyfriends or he was abused as a child or maybe even abused a past girlfriend("im no better than the ones before me") and she is determined to help him not to be that type of person ("what made you think you'd have it your way".."don't say i didn't warn you that i'll always stay the same") and he really wants to change too but he had a breakdown and ended up abusing her too ("I'm in the middle of a breakdown, watching you scream") and he knows he let her down and hates that he did that to her ("In the winding down hours.. i let your heart down again") and he tried to change and be better but in the end he gave up because he thinks he can't ("it's time we both knew, can't stop what i started.. this time we both lose".. "i'll always stay the same")

which i geuss makes the song more literal than everyone thinks.

    but idk im probably wrongg..

General Comment:I'm gonna go against everyone else and say it's about a relationship, whatever kind it may be, friends, bf/gf, family... and the two of them both have some issues and are always there to support one another, but one of them feels more involved, sort of one sided and more prone to help and support the other through hard times than the other person does for them. When the tables completely turn and the person thats always helping is in need of that support, they grow frustrated and begin to lash out. The thing about it is, it's always been like this and the other person isn't going to change because they cant find a way to. ("i'm in the middle of a breakdown, watching you scream.. don't say I didn't warn you that i'll always stay the same..") Which leads to the guilt they feel about the situation ("in the winding down hours i let your heart down again, what did i do to make a scene so gory?") and ultimately the two of them not talking anymore ("battered and bruised, broken confused, it's time we both knew.. can't stop what i've started, this time we both lose...") but hey, time heals everything so hopefully time will help that person heal and change

General Comment:I think this song is about a couple that's going through a difficult time in their relationship. I think the guy is trying to understand the girl but he's going through a hard time himself. i think the weight of her wanting him to change for him is causing him a lot of distress....."it's time we both lose"....kind of suggests maybe the relationship is going to end
