I've forgotten my name
I'm sick and weak and fresh from sleep
I crawl from a crooked bed
With dirty feet and shaky hands
The numbers on the clock read
One-one-O-four A.M.
I've got time to clean myself
Then sell my soul again
When I sleep I dream
I dream I'm awake
Or was it when I'm awake
I dream I'm asleep?
I work, I shit, I eat, I sleep
I'm inspected by the number seven
This can't be my life
No this isn't me

I don't know what's beset this change
I barely recognize my own face
In my mind I know that something's not right
But in my heart I'm bathed in the golden light!
I'm bathed in the golden light!!
I'm bathed in the golden iight!!!

My eyelids still heavy, my pulse still faint
I'm puzzle peices, my memory's stained
I feel strength swell - a day dream
I'm shaking under this duality
My pulse is still faint
I hear a strange voice but don't know what it's saying

And in this moment
Seconds stop and I burst with clarity
A wealth of love and hate gone blank
For I finally remember my fucking name!

I eat rocks
And I breathe wind
I've been around the world and back again
I've lost the static
The gray is gone
I have the power of a million exploding suns

I am consumed by my might
Blinded in light as I would be in night
The void is holding me tight
It doesn't feel right

When will I ever break free
Within or without, I'm chained by the dream
The void is holding me tight
It doesn't feel right

When will I ever break free
Within or without, I'm chained by the dream
The void and the light are both me
It doesn't feel right

Bright lights flood my eyes
It's true
Now I realise
The perilous truth
Of a perilous life
By my own device
The strength of my high
Is the strength of my low
Unless there's no me
They both..
They both explode!

General Comment:"the song "A Million Exploding Suns" refers to the Marvel Comics character Sentry, a schizophrenic and agoraphobic hero with this abundance of power, pertaining to Winneke's double life as a musician and as a video rental clerk." taken from there wiki page...not sure of the source. However, if this is the case it sounds about 90% accurate and too perfectly poetic. Say this, it goes to show that schizophrenia or anything type of mental disorder is not as debilitating as it may seem. Look at the art, conflict, and meaning that can come from it...everything happens for a reason and we are all as we should be.

General Comment:first of all i want to say that this is some of the most intelligent discussion of modern music that i have EVER seen and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside; people DO care about lyrics and meaning in songs !!!!!!!! secondly i think that you guys are all capturing one aspect of the meaning and trying to relegate it to only being about that one thing. Considering that a lot of the songs from H the B are about Nathans personal problems including his inner struggles i would say that even though this song is obviously about the marvel character it is also probably about how Nathan relates to that character (wether that be because hew himself has schizophrenia or just simply because he can relate to a character who has problems in general)

My Interpretation:I interpret this song both ways, it has too many references to The Sentry to not be about him at all. He's the mightiest of all Marvel superheros. An enhanced super soldier serum causes the sentry's molecules to be supercharged by the sun and move at a different rate than the rest of the world. He's been around since before the Fantastic 4, but no one remembers him because of the Watchtower. Bob Reynolds doesn't remember much about his life as a superhero; he lives his life as a regular person, a slob more or less, laying around the house watching tv and sleeping most of the time. The Watchtower is a kind of safeguard created so the Sentry doesn't remember his powers, and so the public forgets about The Void. The Void is the Sentry's alter ego. He claims that every time he does something good, the Void retaliates with something just as bad ("the strength of my High is the strength of my low"). "The Void is holding me tight." describes being crippled by the fear of the void taking over. Of course this is just my interpretation, as the Sentry is badass, but there are several things lines that don't quite fit. Nathan may be comparing himself to the Golden God of Good, but it's not clear if his statement about schizophrenia is true. He has referred to his alterego is General Beam, as he usually comes out after drinking some Jim Beam.

General Comment:this song is about Marvel's Sentry. Probably nothing more than that. All of their songs are based off of "nerd" topics.....8 bit games, comics, gone with the wind....tho many or all MAY relate to him in some way (what song DOESN'T hit at least a little note with everyone) but when it all boils down i've VERY inclined to think this is pure marvel....which is pure AWESOME!

General Comment:I've always thought this was about depression and mood swings. As a gemini, I may be biased.

The first paragraph is about going about your normal predictable day. Usually you're ok with that, but not today. Today it's eating at you.

The 2nd paragraph is how he can't understand the metamorphesis (from depressed/complacent to ready-to-conquer-the-world), but dam it feels right.

The next couple paragraphs he kind of battles with it. It seems familiar and strange. Then boom...everything makes sense. He's seeing clearly. His job sucks, his life need changing. He takes a wrecking ball to his life. He has to act quick, while he has the clarity.

But then deep down part of him is thinking "what happens when I go back to the way I was feeling?" He won't always be in the "light", at some point he will revert back to the "void." Part of him also longs for the boring, depressed life, which at least had some structure. It's a big circle. His depression/complacency fuels his metamorphises to enlightenment, which fuels his metamophises back to structure, complacency, and depression. On this goes.

He also realizes that these 2 strangely powerful forces, forces that change his life and the lives of other around him, would not exist without him. Kind of weird to think about how your emotions, while very real to you, don't really exist (on some level) in the real, physical world.

General Comment:i have a feeling this song may be about someone who is in the routine of a boring job that they have to go to day in and day out and realize that they are constricting themselves to such a kind of life and come to realization they are capable of so much more than that and get to a point where they realize their dreams and attempt to pursue them .... or im just over analyzing horse the band way too much

General Comment:Nathan: "This song is about my life and my schizophrenia". Bullshit. I've never read the comics, but I personally believe this is about someone who is experiencing different people's lives through their own senses. Then the person returns to their body only momentarily, and dragged into another person's life. This person is tormented by the constant "dreams". This could just be what "The Sentry" goes through though, but that's my two cents.

General Comment:According to Nathan, when I saw HORSE playing in Orlando, this song is about "my life and my schizophrenia". Take this with a grain of salt though, even though it sounds pretty right, he could've just been bullshitting.
