It's these substandard motels on the (lalalalala) corner of 4th and Fremont Street
Appealing only because they are just that un-appealing
Any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering
The rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde
And the habit of decomposing right before your very (lalalala) eyes
Along with the people inside
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Tonight tenants range from: a lawyer and a virgin
Accessorizing with a rosary tucked inside her lingerie
She's getting a job at the firm come Monday
The Mrs. will stay with the cheating attorney
moonlighting aside, she really needs his money
Oh, wonderful caricature of intimacy
Yeah (yeah)
And not to mention, the constable, and his proposition, for that "virgin"
Yes, the one the lawyer met with on "strictly business"
As he said to the Mrs. Well, only hours before
After he had left, she was fixing her face in a compact
There was a terrible crash (there was a terrible crash)
Between her and the badge
She spilled her purse and her bag, and held a "purse" of a different kind
Along with the people inside
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses.
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things
Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains

I could write my own personal interpretation or whatever. But I think all the others are pretty much right. XD
Appealing only because they are just that un-appealing
Any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering
The rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde
And the habit of decomposing right before your very (lalalala) eyes"
This is setting up the scene for the location of this song. A sleezy hotel that is probably infamous for its location of prostitution "any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering..."
People may have died here "formaldehyde" and it was poorly built "asbestos"
And its so unmaintained its falling to pieces right before your eyes.
"Along with the people inside"
T
he morality of of the people inside is falling apart along with the structure.
"What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy"
this is meant to be a sad sarcastic comment about how it is infact NOT a wonderful caricature of intimacy
"Tonight tenants range from: a lawyer and a virgin
Accessorizing with a rosary tucked inside her lingerie"
A prostitute is who is sarcastically referred to as a virgin is staying with a lawyer for the night. The fact that she has rosary tucked inside her lingerie refers back to "any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering..." as a joke and also may point out that she does not want to do this and feels shame for it.
"She's getting a job at the firm come Monday"
Either that's what the Lawyer is telling his wife is that he's doing interviews or as another user suggested they are role playing as an interview
"The Mrs. will stay with the cheating attorney"
The Lawyer is married and will retun form his life after this
"moonlighting aside, she really needs his money
Oh, wonderful caricature of intimacy"
The Prostitute has another job but its not enough so she does this to get more money not really caring about her relationship with her clients
"Yeah (yeah)
And not to mention, the constable, and his proposition, for that "virgin"
Yes, the one the lawyer met with on "strictly business"
As he said to the Mrs. Well, only hours before
After he had left, she was fixing her face in a compact"
I think that this is an exchange between the Lawyer and his wife on reason he's leaving to interview and Possibly that he's abusive or that she is trying to look more attractive OR she's cheating on him as well "After he had left, she was fixing her face in a compact" as she is putting on make up. Or she was crying. She's "fixing her face" so. yeah
"There was a terrible crash (there was a terrible crash)
Between her and the badge
She spilled her purse and her bag, and held a "purse" of a different kind
Along with the people inside
What a wonderful caricature of intimacy
Inside, what a wonderful caricature of intimacy"
this goes back to the prostitute and after the Lawyer had left the cops break in her purse fell on the ground and out spilled all her money (a purse of a different kind" and also a list of all the men she slept with
"There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses.
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things"
This being a play on words from the Sound of music is reflecting on how early in life you expect everything to be great and then you end up in these terrible places. I think its pretty self explanitory.
The second verse introduces the prostitute, sarcastically named "the virgin". They're in the shady hotel, role-playing a job interview. As in, she'll do 'anything' for the job. The lawyers' wife knows about the cheating and looks the other way. she can't say anything because she doesn't have a job herself. "What a wonderful caricature of intimacy" is also sarcastic.
Third is when the lawyer leaves the hotel. He wants to leave earlier than the "virgin" as to not seem suspicious. The Lawyer keeps lying to his wife about "business" even though she knows about the hookers. The "virgin" is fixing her makeup when the police turn up. She's rushing to leave and spills her purse (bag) all over the floor. On the floor lies her client purse (list of clients). The cop offers to let her go if she has sex with him.
The last part means that this kind of thing happens all to often. There are so many stains on the sheets that you can't tell the colour anymore.
"Raindrops on roses and the girls in white dresses
And the sleeping with the roaches and the taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things"
Is a play on the song "My Favorite Things" from the musical, "The Sound of Music"?
Well, especially the first and last lines of that verse I think proves that's what they were trying to do.
