[Chorus]
I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks
One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks

And I can feel
That muddy water running through my veins
And I can hear that lullaby of a midnight train
It sings to me and it sounds familiar

[Chorus]

And I can taste
That honeysuckle and it's still so sweet
When it grows wild
On the banks down at old camp creek
Yeah, and it calls to me like a warm wind blowing

[Chorus]

It's where I learned about living
It's where I learned about love
It's where I learned about working hard
And having a little was just enough

It's where I learned about Jesus
And knowing where I stand
You can take it or leave it, this is me
This is who I am

Give me a tin roof
A front porch and a gravel road
And that's home to me
It feels like home to me

[Chorus]

I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks

You get a line, I'll get a pole
We'll go fishing in the craw fish hole
Five-card poker on a Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning

You get a line, I'll get a pole
We'll go fishing in the craw fish hole
(Down in the boondocks)
Five-card poker on a Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning

You get a line, I'll get a pole
We'll go fishing in the craw fish hole
(Down in the boondocks)
Five-card poker on a Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning

Say a little prayer for me

General Comment:Where exactly are the boondocks? Wherever you place your heart I guess. The boondocks are everywhere I guess.

In terms of modern country, this is one of the better songs I've heard. After rebelling for the longest time from the first kind of music I've ever heard, this maybe one of the songs that helped me reembrace the genre that I hated for so long.

Thank goodness for good music in a time of schlock.

General Comment:I love this song. Not all of it is completely true of me, but I was born and raised in the boondocks, and I love it here! Although, the town I grew up in and currently live in is trying to become more "urbanized", just north of town is really rural once you hit the county line. Ahhh, this song is so reminiscent of my past...I love it!!

General Comment:though i dont have a tin roof, i wouldnt trade any of my boondock raisings for any other way. i love the country! nothing like riding your quad, drinking, goin mudding, campin, shooting, and doin all sorts of things out in the woods with your friends.

General Comment:I'm not a big fan of today's country, but this song really appealed to me. I like the fact that has a slightly grittier feeling that most current contemporary country, and more than anything I love the lyrics. I'm proud of where I came from, and I like this song because it vocalized that.

General Comment:Though I'm not from America I recognize the feeling in this song. I'm out on my own now and I learn more and more everyday in this university city, but I also come to appreciate the place where I'm from more and more. "And knowing where I stand" DEFINITELY!
