Monster hospital, can you please release me?
You hold my hands down, I've been bad.
You hold my arms down, I've been bad.
I've been bad, I've been bad.

I fought the war but the war won

Monster movie, Daddy Warbucks up against Bobby Fuller
And he beat him hands down
Lead in the head
Put a little lead in his head.

I fought the war but the war won't stop for the love of god.
I fought the war but the war won

My Interpretation:To me the verses are kinda pointless. But the verse is trying to point something out. Something really important that would be awesome if the world knew.

Fighting, whether with guns, fists or words, is useless. If you try to fight a war the war will win. There are other ways to say this:

-What you fight you strengthen and what you resist persists.
-If you're changing the world, but you're pissed off, you're doing it wrong.
-Seeing others as the enemy is stupid. Avoid competing and work together instead.

General Comment:I'm going to guess you guys have never seen war. This song makes perfect sense. I've seen my friends go insane because of it. They won't stop shaking and they have no control over their body. War isn't as pretty as the movies make it out to be with a hero at every corner but craziness all around. Eyes missing, teeth knocked out due to falling or miss handling a weapon, fingers missing, people taking arms and legs blown off and stringing them to a car and driving around a city square cheering that they defeated their enemy.

It's hard not to go insane after experiencing something like that and some people can't can't seem to shake it and lose it.

That's why this song makes perfect sense to me.

General Comment:The war = war on patriarchy. "The war won", "the war won't stop for the love of God" etc - makes sense, especially given we all know Emily's a feminist.

General Comment:I think that the entire CD is about a girl who seems to get the worst out of life.

The girl's mind is torn apart by her love's lack of recognition, and is losing her mind. She's finds that her life is a war, and that no matter how hard she fights this war, life continues to bring her down. Her rebelliousness (personified by Bobby Fuller) is being quelled by societies' conformity, and its stereotypes (Daddy Warbucks), particularily that prostitutes are the lowest and dirtiest people of society.

General Comment:Iactually think that this song is about an ex soldier with PTSD or post tramatic stress syndrome.

-Monster Hospital, Can you please release me
he feels that hes stuck in this "monster hospital" in his head that he can't leave.

to me the "I fought the war, I fought the war, I fought the war" part isn't about protester but its about a soldier actually there fighting the war and then the "But the war won" part is saying that even though he was in the was fighting for his country the "war" won because he ends up getting this horrible ptsd in the end.

-"And he beat him hands down
    Lead in his head
they put a little lead in, In his head" part seems to be about one of his recurring nightmares, like its another solider being killed by the enemy side

the "I fought the war, I fought the war, I fought the war
But the war won't stop for the love of God" part is like a plea in his head trying to make the recurring stress and nightmares of the war stop.

General Comment:The chorus of this song is, to me, just....a desperate cry for help that I'm sure many can empathize with. People with illness, with trouble, they're always told to "Keep fighting!". Like it's a war - but, as Emily Haines notes, for many of these people "the war won't stop, for the love of god".

    And sometimes the war wins.

    General Comment:No,
    i see it more symbollically.
so you can add it to your own life
    if you get me..
"I fought the war but the war won"
like maybe shes just over fighting
    and
fighting and fighting and she can never do anything to help.
and then she just gives up because shes over it.
maybe .. maybe...she relates to the dude that "died" in the car
like maybe a part of herself is dying.
    or a relationship has died.
or suicide if you prefer that =S
    but i think more symbollically
and i like the remix of the song

General Comment:I love this song. The beat is so catchy.

I really like the part where they say I fought the war but the war won.

But in the MSTRKRFT remix, It sounds like she's gasping for air, like if she was gonna die or something.:/

But overall, the song is pretty dope.
