this song is about two people that are "using" eachother to replace people that once hurt them. It's about trying to force a relationship to get over someone else, when in reality it's impossible. It's about facing a truth that's almost impossible to face and in doing so confronting a ghost from your past. When two people are in the same situation, they have a way of adapting to help eachother through something that they both understand.
This is Michelle's "booty call song," lol. Maybe she'll release her solo studio version someday...
