Covered the carcass of time with flowers
To send the scent of blame to the grave
Set the darkest thoughts on fire
And watched the ashes climb to Heaven's gates
We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
Alive behind the crimson door
While the winter sings: "Your love will be the death of me" (Death of me)
"Your love will be the death of me"
Death served wine for lovers
Brought from the world where devils reign
And intoxicated angels with sorrow
They witnessed in the eyes of their slaves
We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
Alive behind the crimson door
While the winter sings: "Your love will be the death of me" (Death of me)
"Your love will be the death of me"
We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
Alive behind the crimson door while the winter sings: "Your love will be the death of me" (Death of me)
"Your love will be the death of me"
We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
Alive behind the crimson door while the winter sings: "Your love will be the death of me" (Death of me)
"Your love will be the death of me"
We hide behind the crimson door
We hide behind the crimson door
We hide behind the crimson door
We hide behind the crimson door

My Interpretation:Love is a simple cycle, just as the seasons are. You find love and it feels great for a while. Once that hype is gone it feels king of boring and Love gives you two choices: Find something to give a rebirth feeling to it, or get into a fight that either makes it or breaks it.
This song made me think of the cycle of love. I've come to believe that the crimson door is a metaphor of forbidden, unnatural love. The seasons in this song represent the cycles of love. Spring being the newfound love feeling, Summer being the 'Hype but getting boring' feeling, Fall being the dreadful, in need of rebirth feeling, and Winter being the make it or break it decision.

My lyrical interpretation is simply put. A relationship is going downhill and they're blaming one another for the causes of it. During this they tell each other the darkest thoughts they have about this crumbling relationship in their hands. After what has been said, they begin to hope for their love to last as they find a metaphoric haven to give their love a second chance. This haven would be the Crimson Door. Instead of following the love cycle, they become obsessed with the feelings of lust and love within this haven and forget about the love cycle entirely. This makes the relationship unrealistic and unfeeling, having them hide behind the delusion that there is still love when, in truth, there isn't. Angels could be a symbol of their conscience realizing this love isn't true (sorrow). The slaves could be the bodies ignoring the conscience and simply "living in the moment." As an inference, the love is probably realized as nothing but a mere dream, and it breaks off.

General Comment:To me, the song is about forbidden love that causes the death (not necessary literally) of the lovers. So there is blame (for the forbidden love), dark thoughts, disapproval and sorrow.

General Comment:well, okay i was just watching Sleepy Hollow and i noticed a crimson door in the church. so i was like hey that reminds me of HIM.

i did some research and found out that a lot of churches paint their doors red because it symbolizes the blood of christ and the churches martyrs. way back when if a solider was being pursued by an enemy and entered into a church with a crimson door the enemy could not harm him there. so that's what i think the crimson door parts about.

and this isnt' anything for sure but i was just thinking that the part where it says

We hide behind the crimson door
While the summer is killed by the fall
    Alive behind the crimson door
    While the winter sings
Your love will be the death of me’ (death of me)
Your love will be the death of me

well, okay so summer kills fall, so when winter sings your love will be the death of me, what kills winter? Spring, spring kills winter. and spring is supposedly the season of love and new life, right??

    soooooo...yeah

just throwing that our there. lol.

    General Comment:@xXxSilentThinkerxXx:

The orientation of a pentagram has a lot to do with it's meaning, however. Three points up and two points down is associated with Wicca, whereas two up and three down (especially with in inscribed goat's head) is associated with the left-hand path and satanism. The heartagram is a two-up-three-down pentagram where the upper two points are rounded into the top of a heart. Analysis of what is means is for you. =)

General Comment:wildbill666inlondon, that is an absolutely fabulous interpretation of the song, and a very interesting and twisted one, but you have a point, not that i would formulate it like that, but we agree ;D

General Comment:"Several of the songs include easter eggs. "Venus (In Our blood)" as a little girl's voice speaking at the beginning, in reverse the little girl says 'Where are we going, daddy?'. There is backmasked voice at the end of "In the Nightside of Eden" and "Behind the Crimson Door" as a whispering voice, apparently speaking Finnish, at the bridge of the song." General Comment:This song is about pussY? Hahahahaha! How fkn hilarious is that? wildbill666inlondon has got a point though. HIM's songs are so deep and all have underlying meanings. Now that I've read wildbill's interpretation, I'll never look at this song the same way. Sheer brilliance. The Crimson Door=Pussy. LOL! Fuckin brilliant. Although I must add, Dark Light and Venus Doom (the albums) are in contrast to eachother. I feel like Dark Light is HIM's "lighter" album, where Venus Doom is certainly their heaviest project they've done. Both brilliant though.
